1 CHURCH HINTLESHAM The Village LINK CHATTISHAM PARISH Collator & Distributor: Helen Rogerson, The Old Rectory, Hintlesham, IP8 3PT. Telephone: SEPTEMBER HISTORIC CHURCHES BIKE RIDE September 8th; 9.00am pm This is the 31st year of the Bike Ride - started by Suffolk Historic Churches Trust and now ridden almost nationwide! Please dust off your bike and see how many churches you can visit on this sponsored event. Start in Norfolk and cycle home or visit churches in an area you don t know very well. Half the money goes to the Trust which gives grants to churches for repairs and half goes to your local church, also to be used on restoration work - like that on the churchyard at St Nicholas, Hintlesham. Sponsor forms are available from both our churches and from Jenny (652466) and Hugo (652210). If you are not able to ride, please sponsor someone who is - or Jenny who will be sitting all day at Hintlesham Church! Thankyou.

3 NOTES FROM THE EXTRAORDINARY MEETING OF THE PARISH COUNCIL HELD AT THE COMMUNITY HALL ON THURSDAY 9TH AUGUST Present at the meeting were 10 Parish Councillors and District Councillor Nick Ridley. Apologies were received from Peter Jones, Kathy Pollard and Jill Warner. There were two members of the public present. Babergh Core Strategy Local Plan Consultation Amendments: The Parish Council has previously made a response to Babergh DC s Core Strategy Consultation, however any comments on the amendments made to the Draft Document will need to be submitted by August 31st The Parish Council were critical of the lack of detailed protection afforded to the local environment, and will be submitting their response in due course, a copy of which will be available on the village website: hintleshamandchattisham.onesuffolk.net/ County Councillor Guy McGregor has asked for help in collating information that can be used in the fight to force National Grid to fully underground the proposed Bramford to Twinstead Transmission Line. The Parish Council agreed to make the following response: Since the consultation process for the proposed Bramford to Twinstead line began in summer 2009, National Grid has had a deliberate and cynical policy of divide and rule within the Hintlesham, Chattisham and Burstall area. By offering mitigation to one half of the community by taking down the smaller pylons of the existing 132kv line, National Grid is asking those residents to condemn their friends, neighbours and even close family members to horrendous further blight by having to suffer a new line of giant pylons that will run parallel with the existing 440kv pylon line. National Grid is well aware that a house is the most expensive purchase most people will ever make. Not only is it their home, where they will bring up their family, in many cases it will need to provide for health and social care in later years and will also be a large contributor to pension funds. Therefore it comes as no surprise that people will try to protect this valuable asset at all cost. There is no doubt that National Grid reneging on its long promised consultation on 2A/2B has only exacerbated the situation. The inevitable result is the fracture of our communities. The fact that National Grid has tried to exploit this circumstance has always been morally repugnant, but we now find that it is also against the letter and the spirit of planning law. National Policy Statement EN-1: To consider the potential effects, including benefits, of a proposal for a project, the IPC will find it helpful if the applicant sets out information on the likely significant social and economic effects of the development, and show any likely significant negative effects would be avoided or mitigated. This information could include matters such as employment, equality, community, cohesion and well-being. It is obvious that National Grid s so called 3
4 mitigation is the antithesis of community cohesion and well-being. The solution is simple and is provided by SCC s Michael Wilks in his excellent Addendum: An underground solution would have long term benefits for this area in that regard. Planning: Application No. B/12/00773/FUL Vine Cottage, Duke Street, Hintlesham, Ipswich, IP8 3PL; Erection of two-storey detached dwelling with integral single garage and construction of new vehicular access to serve Vine Cottage. Wind Turbines: Belstead Parish Council will be holding a Meeting on the 15th August, at Belstead Village Hall, to which they have invited a member/members from local Parish Councils to attend. 3 Councillors from our Parish Council agreed to attend: Mr. R. Taylor, Mrs M. Taylor and the Chairman, Mrs S. Coupland. They will report back to the Parish Council at our next meeting on the 13th September. PLEASE CLEAR UP AFTER YOUR DOG There have been complaints about dog mess, particularly in Duke Street. There are several dog bins in the village please clear up after your dog. NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH Suffolk Police report that residents across the county have been giving Open Invitations to criminals recently, and they recommend the following simple crime prevention measures to keep valuables safe and to help to reduce crime. So, just to remind you: - Lock doors and windows even if you pop out just for a minute: - Secure gates and outbuildings with good quality locks. - Don t leave cash, car keys or valuables on display near doors and windows. - Security mark your valuables with house number or name and postcode. - If you have a burglar alarm, don t forget to use it. - Leave lights and a radio on by using a timer switch. - Install restrictors on windows to allow for ventilation whilst the windows remain locked. - Install external lighting with automatic sensors. - Fit deadlocks to outside doors and key operated locks to windows. Don t hide the spare key outside. P.A./Secretary Business and household administration. Hours to suit. Experienced ex-bbc employee. References available on request. 5 Beautilicious with Ninder Beauty therapist & make-up artist Mobile: I have been a beauty therapist for 3 years and thoroughly enjoy it. I have my own room based at the Holiday Inn, London road, Ipswich. I am qualified in the following: Facials, Swedish massage, hopi ear candling, tinting, waxing, manicures, pedicures, gel nails, bridal and special occasion makeup. Also hen, holiday and prom packages available. Vouchers available. HILL FARM HISTORY I have been wondering for ages whether there is anyone alive who remembers the names of the two men who worked at Hill Farm when we first went to Hyntle Place. Mr Grey was the farm manager but these two were very impressive characters. There were still horses from 1949 when we arrived - two Suffolk Punches and one Shire Horse. I have an image of these two - one in a cart with head bowed keeping a two minute silence when the church clock struck. I am not sure of the occasion but it may have been when the King died. Or it might have been the armistice. If you have any information, please contact Belinda Parham: bap22@cam.ac.uk or call Steph Coupland on Dates for the diary Saturday, October 27th: Hallowe en Family Disco Saturday afternoon, December 15th: Children s Christmas Party including a visit from Santa Both at Community Hall; more details to follow On Yer Bike! 7 THE CULTURE CLUB During my teaching career I regularly organised visits to London theatres and similar events for staff, families and their friends. On learning that I was retiring my colleagues first question was, was I going to continue running these events? I am, and I am also going to open up the opportunity to local residents as well as other friends and relatives. I have run these trips for years and have developed a network of providers for high quality and reliable transport and I have excellent relationships with major ticketing organisations. These visits are not just to the theatre to see plays, but encompass other events including musicals, opera and ballet, and for which I am usually able to obtain very reasonably priced tickets. The visits take place on various days of the week. Most popular for working people have been Saturdays where, typically, I have organised a whole day s visit to London. We leave early (about 08.00) by coach, arriving mid-morning in London. Your time is then your own to visit shops, museums, restaurants etc. We meet up again at the theatre for a matinee performance, before boarding our transport and arriving home mid-evening. If you are interested in these cultural experiences and wish to be kept informed, please me at caroline@thefarralls.co.uk. Please include your telephone number and your preferred contact address as that is the main method I will use for keeping you informed. Don t worry if you do not have as I will call you. Better though if you give me a mobile number as I can use a group text system. Caroline Farrall (01473) GARDEN SHED Chattisham: large partly built garden shed, sections assembled from new materials Free, but donation of 20 to Hintlesham & Chattisham Church Restoration Fund appreciated.
