2 Dear Friends, For 2 weeks in August, we, as a family, will Go MAD! You may think we have done that already, but Go MAD is the name of a charity we will be visiting in Tanzania. It is a partner of Tear Fund, one of the large charities involved in the Disasters Emergency Appeals, and our visit is a Tear Fund Transform Trip. Over the past months we have been sorting out all the details and getting our jabs! We will meet the other participants at an Orientation Day at the end of May in London. We are paying all our costs to go, and even to just visit means a great deal to the people there. However we would love to do something that Makes a Difference to their on-going daily lives. So, we are hoping to build a water tank for the farmers co-operative, the school or the leper colony; and also, maybe, provide some families with goats. Clean water and regular fresh milk can revolutionise their lives! A water tank costs about 550 to build; goats cost 75 each. You may not be able to Go MAD, but we wondered if you d like to Make a Difference by giving a donation. The great thing is that all the money given goes directly to pay for these things. We have already received 380 from generous friends and family, so we are well on the way. On Sunday 30th June we ll be focussing on our trip. At the Benefice Service at 10am at Elmsett, there will be a visiting speaker from Mission Aviation Fellowship another charity we will visit in Tanzania, and then at the Rectory (Elmsett) we will have a Go MAD Open House Fundraiser with refreshments and some activities more details later. Do please join us, so that together we can Make a Difference. For more details, please ask us for a leaflet or visit the web-site: Also, if you would like to make a donation we have a web page: or you can give us cash, or a cheque to GO MAD. Do please gift aid it if possible (via the web-site, or forms from us for cash/cheques). Our prayer is that, together, we might be able to Make a HUGE Difference. The LORD bless you, Tim and Trish ffrench DISCOVERY GROUP Monday 3rd June 2-4pm: Meet at Liz White s home, Street Farm, George St Monday 17th June 2-4pm: Meet at Cecelia Polley s home, Duke St Monday 9th July - 2pm: Toddler Service, Chattisham Church, followed by tea at Christiana s. 3 NOTES FROM THE ANNUAL PARISH COUNCIL MEETING HELD AT THE COMMUNITY HALL ON THURSDAY 9th MAY 2013 at 7.30pm Present at the meeting were 9 Parish Councillors, District Councillors Nick Ridley and Peter Jones and one member of the public. Apologies for absence were received from Ian Bryce and Robin Baldry. Election of Chairman: Stephanie Coupland was unanimously reelected as Chairman of the Parish Council. An appreciation was made as to the hard work and good sense that Stephanie brings to this role. Appointment of Officers and Representatives: Vice Chairman; Ian Bryce Graffiti Officer; Red Kiosk & Bench Monitor (Hintlesham) Robin Baldry Emergency Officer; Tree Warden; Ted Wright Footpath Officer; Margaret Taylor SALC Representative; Playing Field Liaison Officer; John Whyman Link Representative; Peter Eaton Road Safety Officer; Safer Communities; Robert Taylor Community Council Representative; Diane Chase Bench Monitor/Red Kiosk Monitor (Chattisham) Diane Chase Public Transport Officer; Ben Cox Racial & Disability Officer; Chris Leney National Grid Community Forum Representative; Frances Self Neighbourhood Plan: The Parish Council have decided to keep a watching brief regarding the creation of a Neighbourhood Plan. At the moment it appears that the cost would prove prohibitive, however the PC are mindful of the protection the neighbourhood plan gives to communities, and that circumstances may well change in the future. Community Speed Watch: There will be speedwatch sessions throughout our parishes over the next few weeks. Bus Timetable: There is a new bus timetable available. Anyone requiring a copy should contact Ben Cox, Community Forum: A flyer was enclosed in the last copy of the Village Link regarding the use of the Community Hall. If you have any suggestions please contact Ian Bryce or Ruth Finbow District Council Report: Nick Ridley reported that Babergh DC had now revised their Constitution. One of the changes was to have a Council Leader and Jennie Jenkins has been duly elected to this role. There will also be closer links with Mid Suffolk DC over the various Committees. It was mentioned that Belstead Campaigners had written to the Parish Council asking for us to support them in their efforts to have a minimum distance between wind turbines and 3
4 domestic dwellings written in to Babergh s Core Strategy. Councillor Ridley confirmed that at present there is no protection at all against Wind Farms in the Core Strategy. A Planning Application had been received to build a Solar Farm on 80 acres of farmland in Tattingstone. There is an Officer Recommendation for approval. Nick Ridley also mentioned that Babergh DC along with Mid Suffolk DC and Suffolk CC had issued a Position Statement regarding National Grid s suggested pylon alignment by Hintlesham Hall. National Grid Community Forums: Frances Self mentioned that at the last Forum meeting in April, National Grid had stated that the next meeting would take place in May and that it was hoped that a detailed pylon alignment would available to view for the first time. Not for the first time, National Grid has reneged on their promise, and this meeting has been delayed until June, possibly. Message from PCSO 3132 Melissa Cohen, Capel Police, Tel: 101 The weather is hopefully staying warmer by the time you read this, and the warm weather brings all, young and old, out to enjoy the sun. If you are a driver, please be mindful of children running out into the road trying to get their ball or other items. Many injuries are caused by this type of occurrence and can be reduced if a vehicle s speed is kept down and driver and child are more mindful of their surroundings. No crimes reported for Hintlesham or Chattisham. NOTICE: There s no such thing as the Dog Poo Fairy Sadly there are still some dog owners around who are failing to clean up after their dogs. The allotments are yet again bearing the brunt of it. Not only are people failing to bag it and bin it, but some are going to the trouble of bagging it, only to lob it over the hedge near the entrance to the allotments by the road, which is just as unpleasant for those who live and walk nearby. Don t leave it to someone else. There is no Dog Poo Fairy. PLEASE CLEAN UP AFTER YOUR DOG DOG COLLAR FOUND PetSafe dog training collar found. Contact Doug Finbow on or doug.finbow@virgin.net 4

It is a lovely old house - fantastic Tudor chimneys and peacocks on the lawn - and with historic connections to the early settlers on the east coast of the USA through the Godbold family. We also enjoyed hearing about the later inhabitants of the Hall. A welcome cup of tea and a home-made cake rounded off the afternoon nicely. The speaker for our next meeting on 4th June will be Lynne Mortimer. Lynne is wellknown in this county as a contributor to the East Anglian Daily Times and as a broadcaster on Radio Suffolk. Her subject is The Life and Laughs of a Local Journalist, which should be very entertaining and fits in nicely with our May speaker who also talked about local newspapers. 5
