2 Events in December Friday 8th Thursday 14th Sunday 17th Christmas Bingo in the Village Hall Social Club Lunch Carol Service Colin Frost. 29 th June th Sept 2017 Colin was born in George Nympton and spent his life in and around the village. The number of people who attended his funeral on 13 th of October was testament to how well-loved and popular he was. Colin was laid to rest next to his wife in the churchyard. We will all miss his quiet presence. Harvest Service and Market Stall Again, several stalwart members of our church were up early to set up and man the stall in the Pannier market where we managed to raise for church funds...all good fun...thanks to all who helped and donated goods for the stall. Also the sale of fruit and veg after our Harvest Festival Service raised over 200 for the two charities - Farmers in Crisis and Send a Cow - who we usually support from our Harvest Supper but I'm sure the the Harvest Supper will be on again next year for us all to enjoy. Carole Hurst Village Hall The Village Hall refurbishments are underway with work being carried out on the Ladies Toilet, Main hall and Entrance. Another successful Bingo Night raised over 200. The 50 Club winners for September were Mark Bunby (1st), Grace Vesey (2nd), Richard Holloway (3rd). Future events we have planned include Christmas Bingo on 8th December, Ferret Racing on 2nd February and if you would like to be involved in our Murder Mystery production in April, we are holding auditions on 15th January. 3 George Nympton Fireworks and Little Horrors on November 4th This spectacular event will start with a Party for the children (and for anyone wanting to re-capture their childhood!) in The Village Hall at 5.00pm. There will be plenty of fun and games with Children s Entertainer and Magician, Dave Hendy, so put on your spookiest outfits and prepare for a great night! Food will be available from 6.00pm and the sparks will really start to fly at 7.00pm in the Ball Field with the fantastic Fireworks Display that gets better every year! There will be a Bar and Hot Food, accompanied by a Live Music in the Village Hall. And O.K. The adults can dress up too as long as they don t scare me like Roy did last year. The November lunch will be held on Friday, 17th November, but will be a little later than normal: 1.p.m. for The Christmas Lunch will be on THURSDAY, 14th December, at for 1.pm. 4 Crib Festival 25 th and 26 th November. This year there will be more than 120 Nativity Sets on display in our beautiful old church and churchyard. Mainly from the collection of Sophia Brown, they come from all over the world and vary in size from one inside a walnut shell to half-life sized. For the first time, we will have a few sets on a separate table for the children to play with. On the Saturday, the Church will be open between 10.00am and 4.30pm and on the Sunday, between 2.00pm and 4.00pm. There will be an early Advent Coffee Morning in the Village Hall on the Saturday between am in aid of the Freedom Centre in Barnstaple after which money raised from refreshments and stalls will be for Church funds. There will also be refreshments and stalls in the Village Hall until 4.00pm on the Sunday. At 4.30pm, there will be a Candlelit Service of Celebration in the Church, followed by mulled wine and mince pies. Everyone will be made very welcome so bring the family along to enjoy this special weekend celebrating the beginning of the Christmas season. Pat Bateman. George Nympton Christmas Card This year the Craft Club will make a card for the parish, the aim of which is to enable people to sign it wishing everyone a Very Merry Christmas rather than sending individually cards to their friends and neighbours in the parish. We are fundraising for the Village Hall and the Church so will ask for a donation. The card will be on display either in the Village Hall or The Castle from early December. The Craft Club

5 Flower Festival This event was a great success and this month s larger than usual issue gives us another chance to show some more photographs. Flower Festival Photographic Show The display of photographs to accompany the Flower Festival was an undoubted success and aroused plenty of interest. I am immensely grateful to everyone who helped to make it so, both with the organisation and by re-discovering treasures from their attics. Even during the show I heard of others which might be added to the collection. Now we need to ensure that these records of our past are not lost and I hope to make this a continuing project to set up an archive, either in printed or website form, and I hope to follow up the leads I already have and I am looking forward to finding others. We have our Christmas menu ready and are now taking bookings for parties of 2 to 50 from Friday 1st December up to Friday 23rd. Please contact us for a full menu and booking form. Building Work Further repointing and the replacement of three large coping stones on the east gable were completed in September. Many thanks to Richard Sumner for his work. This year we have spent 4,935 on essential repairs to the building, so we are very grateful for all the support given at the Fete, Flower Festival (and, hopefully, at the forthcoming Crib Festival). Ian Bateman Molton Monthly Magazine We have offered to distribute the Molton Monthly magazine to our readers along with our printed version of our newsletter (thereby earning a small contribution to church funds). 7 Open Hearts When we lose someone close to us, we may face a long period of painful, emotional turmoil. We all deal with these feelings in our own individual ways, but some people endure this difficult time with little support. However, help is available. At Open Hearts we provide a local bereavement help service offering free information, guidance and support to those who have suffered loss in their lives. Someone who has lost a person close to them will often find it helpful to meet with others who have experienced similar circumstances. This will offer them opportunities to talk through and share their feelings with someone who can empathise with their situation. This kind of mutual support can be an important part of the healing process. We have a bereavement café and drop in group in The Garden Room at The Amory Centre in South Molton, on every first and third Thursday of each month, between 12.00noon and 2.00pm. The meetings are informal and provide the opportunity to chat over tea, coffee and biscuits, without pressure. We appreciate it can be a difficult step to meet a new group of people, especially when feeling emotionally vulnerable, but this type of support can be very valuable in the early months following a bereavement. So if you do not feel able to come alone, why not ask a friend or relative to accompany you. We can also provide a range of information on bereavement and its effects on our lives. We have a small library of bereavement self help books and we can provide guidance on strategies to help us cope with the effects of bereavement. Subjects such as redeveloping social and life skills, relaxation techniques, complimentary therapies and journaling. We are also able to signpost people to counselling services and specialist support groups if that is needed. All of these can be provide in person, or, if you prefer, by telephone: Our aim is to provide positive guidance on facing the future with renewed hope and confidence so please feel free to telephone us at any time.
