2 Hintlesham & Chattisham Community Hall To book the Hall or Meeting Room phone Richard on (9.00am 9.00pm only) From the Registers Wedding, Hintlesham: Alex Ayres and Chloe Eaves Bell ringing As we are sure you are aware in St Nicholas Church we have been following the course of WW1. This exercise will finish in November 2018 At the end of the War, church bells which had been silent for the duration, rang out in celebration. It is hoped that this can happen again to mark the 100th anniversary. At St. Nicholas this is a challenge as we don t have our own band of ringers. Would you be prepared to attend some training sessions and have a go, so St Nicholas can join in this National Ring? We would love to hear from you. Jenny and Cathy Advance notice Holiday Club 2018 Next year s Holiday Club will take place from Monday 13th August to Friday 17th August. 4 NOTES FROM THE PARISH COUNCIL MEETING HELD IN THE COMMUNITY HALL ON THURSDAY 14 th December 2017 at 7.30 pm Present at the meeting were 7 Parish Councillors, County Councillor Christopher Hudson, District Councillors Barry Gasper and Nick Ridley and 5 members of the public. Apologies for absence were received from Parish Councillors Jamie Bostock, Chris Leney and John Whyman. These are my notes from the last Parish Council meeting of 2017, and there is no doubt that I am not the only member who feels underwhelmed by the performance of our elected District and County representatives this past year. Fast Broadband Roll Out Strategy; Although County Councillor Christopher Hudson is over six months into his term of office, he is yet to report back on any strategy that Portfolio Holder Jane Storey might have to provide fast broadband to all rate payers in Suffolk. Cllr Hudson did state that 37 million had been provided for this outcome. At the moment the UK ranks 23 rd in the world rankings of fast broadband coverage, overshadowed by such economic giants as Finland and Latvia. Babergh Planning Committee; Chairman of the Planning Committee Cllr Nick Ridley had already admitted that an answer he had given 6 months previously when questioned as to whether Planning Chief Philip Isbell was the sole person to decide Call Ins, was actually incorrect. In fact Philip Isbell is still making these decisions alone despite promises to make this process more democratic. At a recent Babergh Planning meeting, an application to build a further 11 houses on George Street was being decided by Committee as the Parish Council had rejected the proposal. Chairman Ridley had again refused a request to read out the submission made by Ward Councillor Barry Gasper, who was unable to attend. The importance of this request was amplified when ex Planning Chairman Peter Beer admitted that he had not read the submission as he had only received an copy that very morning. When corrected by Committee Secretary Linda Sheppard that the information pack had actually been sent out the day before, Cllr Beer admitted that he had only switched his computer on at 9 o clock that morning. Just as worryingly, suspended Conservative member Simon Barrett (now sitting as an Independent?!) stated that he had recently made a purchase from the village shop, a fine facility, along with other Committee members who appeared not to know where the application was actually sited in Hintlesham. It will come as no surprise to hear that the application was approved, proposed and seconded by the aforementioned Councillors Beer and Barrett. Now for the good news! Our residents in action. The MUGA Project; is making good progress and the first tranche of funding from Viridor will soon be made available, along with the Section 106 money. The main construction work will be carried out next Spring when the good weather arrives. As previously reported, several Committees have been set up to manage the various aspects of the project, comprising of residents with a good spread of ages and abilities. The Events Committee; hosted a very successful Quiz Night in November, and a recent Community Breakfast attracted over 50 hungry customers. Planning DC/17/ Cherryground Cottages Erection of first floor extension and internal alterations And finally; sadly for us, this was the last appearance of Samantha Barber as Parish Clerk, we send her best wishes for the future and thanks for all her hard work in the past. Minutes of this meeting will appear in due course on our excellent Village Website; Peter Eaton 16 th December

We ended up with Christmas songs such as White Christmas and Walking in a Winter Wonderland and eating mince pies. At the time of going to press we will be celebrating Christmas again with the annual dinner in the Community Hall on the 19th December from 7pm onwards. We will be eating again on the 9th January with the traditional Soup n Sweet lunch at midday, followed by the AGM when the annual sub. will be welcomed.
