1 Resurrection Catholic Primary School 51 Gum Road, Kings Park 3021 Telephone: (03) Fax: (03) , Absentee Line: (03) website: Our Vision: At Resurrection Catholic Primary School, we learn passionately, we serve joyfully, we care. Today we celebrate the feast of the Birth of John the Baptist, a rare distinction shared with only Jesus and Mary. In this Gospel we hear of the story of the birth of John the Baptist. His mother, Elizabeth was thought to be sterile (a great social disgrace in that time), so to have a baby when she was considered too old for childbirth was miraculous indeed. Her husband, Zechariah, who was a priest of the Temple, had been struck dumb for his resistance to God s message. The baby is given a special name, John (which means God is gracious), because God had a special task for him to announce the arrival of Jesus, who would come to save God s people. When the time arrived for Elizabeth to have her child she gave birth to a son. Her neighbours and relatives heard that the Lord had shown his great mercy toward her, and they rejoiced with her. When they came on the eighth day to circumcise the child, they were going to call him Zechariah after his father, but his mother said in reply, No. He will be called John. But they answered her, There is no one among your relatives who has this name. So they made signs, asking his father what he wished him to be called. He asked for a tablet and wrote, John is his name, and all were amazed. Immediately his mouth was opened, his tongue freed, and he spoke, blessing God. Then fear came upon all their neighbours, and all these matters were discussed throughout the hill country of Judea. All who heard these things took them to heart, saying, What, then, will this child be? For surely the hand of the Lord was with him. The child grew and became strong in spirit, and he was in the desert until the day of his manifestation to Israel. 2 FIRST COMMUNION PHOTOS ROOM 17 SUNDAY 24 JUNE 2018 May the blessings of our Lord Jesus be poured on you from this day onward. LITERACY NEWS Book Week Book week celebrations will be held in Term 3, from the 20th-24th August. The theme this year is Find Your Treasure. The Parade will be held on Friday 24th August. Students are encouraged to dress up as their favourite book character or related to the theme of treasure. Costumes do not need to be costly, think ahead and get creative. More information about book week will be sent out early Term 3. Premiers Reading Challenge Update It is great to see so many children recording their reading and taking part in the Victorian Premiers Reading Challenge. If there is one thing that goes without saying, it s that reading to, or with, your children is extremely valuable. Reading nurtures the imagination, strengthens family bonds and can take the reader, and listener, on adventures that will be remembered for many years to come. So far we have had many students complete the reading challenge. It is pleasing to see that 1,200 books have been read by our students. Children who have completed the required amount of reading have been presented with a certificate and bookmark. It is not too late to enter, reading over the school holidays will be a good time to start! The challenge closes Friday 7th September. Happy Reading! Teresa Rossitto GRANDPARENTS DAY Please save the date Friday 27 July 2018 so you can join us to celebrate Grandparents Day. More information to follow in Term 3
3 GR 3-6 DISCO We would like to thank all those parents and staff that helped at the Gr 3-6 Disco on Friday night. The students and adults had a great time. YEAR 4 - EARTH SCIENCES EXPO The Grade 4 students did a great job showcasing their work at the recent expo held on Wed 27 June 2018 CAR PARK BOLLARDS Parents will be aware that a row of safety bollards have been installed near the front of the car park to protect students being dropped off at school in the morning. Some parents have expressed concern about driving over the bollards. The bollards are designed to go safely under cars if they drive directly over them under the centre of the car. The only time they may cause damage to tyres or rims is if drivers swerve out of their lane at an angle. The school is having the car park lines re-marked to make it easier for drivers to stay in the lanes. We hope this helps.

5 COMMUNITY NEWS Brimbank Town Centre Survey Brimbank City Council is inviting local residents, employees and visitors across the municipality to share what is most important about Brimbank s town centres by completing a five-minute online survey at the link below. Your feedback will help us plan for the future of local town centres, including improvements to streets, public space and amenities. It will also inform strategies that we are preparing including the Brimbank Car Parking Strategy, and the Draft Activity Centre Strategy. By completing the survey you also go into the running to win one of five $100 gift vouchers. The survey closes 5pm 23 July 2018.
6 Program Update End Term 2 To all our OSHClub families what a great term it has been. The children have enjoyed attending OSHClub as they have been able to take part in many activities such as gardening in Resurrections very own garden space. We have made delicious food for the children to eat for afternoon tea and for after tea snacks. The children asked we delivered! Every Friday the staff and children prepare a special breakfast, allowing the children to develop their knowledge in cooking. The children have been busy being creative making slime, play-dough and origami. What a brilliant term it has been for us all. We love seeing new children join our program and seeing our regular children daily. To celebrate an amazing term we will be finishing it off with a DISCO PARTY!! This will be held on the 29th of June. We will plan many activities such as musical freeze, pin the tail on the donkey and capture the flag etc. The staff and children will be busy the night before preparing some desserts for us to all enjoy such as vanilla cupcakes and chocolate balls. We will have music playing and lots of dancing so be ready to finish the term off with a bang. Staff updates: Stephanie, Claudia and Alex will continue working at Resurrection OSHClub with the support from casual workers. However it is sad for me to say Jessica will be leaving Resurrection after 3 years of working here. She will be missed by many. Jessica will continue a new chapter to her journey. She will hopefully still come and visit if she has free time. We strongly encourage children to bring their homework to OSHClub. We really enjoy seeing the children complete their homework and support one another. We are also happy to help with any questions they may have. We hold Homework club every afternoon to support their learning and development. Every afternoon we still have our OSHClub meetings to discuss the activities, food, safety and respect of one another. Children are able to discuss any thoughts and suggestions to make OSHClub a safe place for us all. Please note: Parents if you are having issues with the new portal for enrolments or current accounts please come and see me Stephanie in the OSHClub room I am happy to help. If you don't find me in the room as I have finished for the day contact me on leave and message and I will return your call. Please remember to try to book prior to 24 hours each session. So be ready to finish the term off with a bang. If your plan doesn't work change the plan but never the goal. Never give up in what you believe in. We look forward to seeing you!
