Please thrw away yur ld envelpes and use thse assigned fr 2017, everything is dne by yur assigned number. N names are used. 2. It is nt necessary t write mre than ne check r cash amunt. The way the cmputer prgram wrks is by yur number (n names), s if yu give mre than ne envelpe, we have t add them befre putting them in the cmputer. Dnatins are put int the cmputer and depsited when they are received, s if yu have missed a week, it is psted when received nt fr the week missed. The envelpes have plenty f rm t write what the dnatin is fr. As an example...yu are making a dnatin fr Operating, Neighbrs in Need, Building Fund, and Flwers...just write ne check and write n the envelpe hw the check shuld be divided, and we will d the rest. 3. Yu hate the deed that he des if he's yur enemy and he's evil, but yu lve the persn wh des the evil deed... Lve is the greatest frce in all the wrld. And this is why Jesus was great. He realized it in his life, and he tk this frce and split histry int A.D. and B.C. s that all histry has t sing abut him and talk abut him because he made lve the center f his life. And what des the crss mean? It means that Gd's lve shines befre us thrugh that crss in all f its dimensins. And s "when I survey the wndrus crss n which the Prince f Glry died, I cunt my richest gains but lss and pur cntempt n all my pride. Were the whle realm f nature mine that were a present far t small. Lve s amazing, s divine, demands my life, my all, and my all." This is ur legacy. This is what we have. Brian Bagley- Bnner Definitin f FEMINISM 1: the thery f the plitical, ecnmic, and scial equality f the sexes Thrughut histry, ur male dminated sciety has used the Scriptures t justify inequality between men and wmen, but if we take the cultural lens f that assumptin ff as we read scripture, we see instead a strng argument fr equality. In Genesis there are tw stries f Creatin. The first is very clear in shwing the equality f men and wmen: Then Gd said, Let us make humankind in ur image, accrding t ur likeness; S Gd created humankind...in the image f Gd... male and female. The secnd creatin accunt says, "Then the LORD Gd said, It is nt gd that the man shuld be alne; I will make him a helper as his partner"... (after Eve was created) the man said, This at last is bne f my bnes and flesh f my flesh; this ne shall be called Wman, fr ut f Man this ne was taken. Thugh the man was created first, the reasn fr the creatin f wman is because the man needs a partner. Ntice it des nt say "assistant" r "subrdinate" r "smene t ck and d the dishes." Adam's sng f jy declares, "bne f my bne and flesh f my flesh." He is ecstatic that nw there is smene wh is equal t him, smene like him, and smene wh can be a full partner. It is nly later n, when Gd hands ut punishment fr the sin cmmitted, that Gd says the man will rule ver the wman, but clearly that is nt Gd's riginal design. In the New Testament, Jesus is very clear in his valuing f wmen in his having wman disciples and in his quite radical willingness t talk with wmen wh apprach him (even Samaritans). Even Paul, wh in sme letters suggests he des nt always see wmen as equals, writes in Galatians; fr in Christ Jesus yu are all children f Gd thrugh faith. As many f yu as were baptized int Christ have clthed yurselves with Christ. There is n lnger Jew r Greek, there is n lnger slave r free, there is n lnger male and female; fr all f yu are ne in Christ Jesus. These strands f scripture, thugh ften de-emphasized r re-interpreted, make clear that gender has never been a hierarchical prpsitin fr Gd. In fact, I believe Gd made us t be partnered t shw us that we need ne anther. It is impssible t bey Gd's first cmmandment: keep the species ging, withut ne anther. As the ld saying ges, "It takes tw t tang," and t create a next generatin f humans t lve and serve Gd. Is it pssible that this partnership at the very beginning f creatin was meant t teach us smething as a species? Was Gd trying t shw us that the path f partnership is the pathway t peace and justice and lve? Whenever we build hierarchies: men are better than wmen, gays are better than straights (wh are bth better than transgender flk), blacks are better than whites, Christians are better than Jews wh are better than Muslims wh are better than Hindus wh are... We thwart Gd's plan t unify us, t make us partners. Our strng drive t be better than, t place urselves abve thers, is the very essence f the sin f pride (which sme say is the "riginal" sin). The nly way all will ever be truly free is if all; thse f all religins (and n-religin), thse f all natins, rich and pr, able-bdied and differentlyabled, ld and yung, and yes, men and wmen are respected and valued as marvelus and equal children f Gd. Whenever anyne is diminished, we are all diminished. Whenever the ppressed are lifted up, we all take ne step clser t the Peaceable Realm f Gd. Jesus preached in favr f the pr, nt because the pr are smehw better, but because the wrld, in defiance f Gd's cmmands, ignres and diminishes them. And Jesus knew that when yu diminish any f Gd's children, Gd gets very angry and demands justice. S fr me tday, thugh sme use the wrd "feminist" as a term f ridicule, it is imprtant fr me as a fllwer f Jesus Christ t declare that I believe and will advcate fr plitical, ecnmic and scial equality fr wmen and fr all. I am nw, and will always be, a Christian Feminist. May Gd speed the Day f Equality fr All,

7 A B uquet f F l wers F l y P e t e r s n 6 7 Smetimes we have a day, r several days, when we feel ut f sync with ur nrmal lives. It may be frm sadness, r seemingly fr n reasn. This is a time when I gather a buquet f flwers each day. If I had a garden, just wrking in it wuld cheer me up. What I m talking abut is a metaphric r imaginary buquet f unique flwers, which are hand-picked and make up the sights and sunds f small pckets f jy which flat arund us each day. It s taking the time t ntice and fcus n these small bits f happiness that help lift up ur spirits. My first flwer may be the wnderful sun cming in the windw, r fluffy cluds r the bubbles which sail away when I use the dish sap. Maybe it s a gd day t write a nte t a friend fr kindness given. When taking a walk, yu may see a little dg scamper by n its wner s leash, r yu may ntice sme wildflwers have escaped a mwer. These sights and sunds have been adding flwers t yur buquet all day, and Gd s lve is the vase yu put them in. Gd has given us a lt f nature and little happenings t enjy in each day if we just lk fr them. On January 25th the students in the MWF and VPK classes went n a field trip t Dakin Dairy Farm. They went n a hayride and learned abut farm animals. 8 CHURCH COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES 8 Faith United Church f Christ /// January 9, 2017 Present: Marge Hie, Richard Dilts, Deb D Angel, Faith Quici, Barbara Brwnell, Judy and Denny Wetter, Pastrs Brian and Jude, Linda Andersn. Meeting called t rder by Marge Hie at 7:04 and the pening prayer was given by Pastr Jude. A mtin t apprve the minutes frm the December meeting was given by Judy Wetter and 2 nd by Deb D Angel. Financial Secretary s Reprt: Judy Wetter reprted a depsit f $16, was depsited t the perating accunt at Bank f America, building fr the future at the Bank f the Ozarks depsit was $ fr a ttal depsit f $16, fr the mnth f December. Treasurer s Reprt: Barbara Brwnell mtined t return a minimum f $4, t the building fr the future accunt if Arlene is cmfrtable with this. Mtin was secnd by Richard Dilts and apprved with a unanimus vte. Pastr s Reprt: Pastr Brian reprts the Faith Care Team is restarting. On January 29 th we will celebrate church histry, spread the ashes f the Gerlach s with a brunch ptluck after. The chili ck-ff will be in February, March 1 st is Ash Wednesday and Easter April 16 th. April 30 th the pastrs will be ut f twn. Pastr Jude reprts the winter/spring study grups are filling up. A daytime wmen s supprt grup will be starting and then pssibly a mixed gender evening grup. Secretary s Reprt: Faith reprted 2 security cameras have been purchased. The pre-schl wants t wait until summer fr the flrs t be dne. Our cleaning cmpany will d the carpets nw and then the flrs later if we chse. Old Business: By-laws cmmittee will meet t finish the by-laws. Annual reprts are due tnight. Sheriffs security meeting there will be an audit frm crime preventin services. One suggestin is t have plans fr ptential prblems, like fire evacuatin plan, cmmunicatin plan frm the pulpit t the cngregatin, etc. New Business: Special events scheduled are ptluck Jan. 29 th, Chili ck-f Feb. 12 th, and pancake supper Feb. 28 th. We need t have vlunteers t cme in and answer phnes if faith is ut. A mtin was made by Barbara Brwnell t give Faith and the pastrs a raise and was secnd by Deb D Angel. The mtin was carried unanimusly. Department and Cmmittee Reprts: Building and Grunds reprt: Denny reprted that the next meeting will be January 10 th. He als submitted a reprt dcumenting all the wrk their team has accmplished this past year which can be fund elsewhere in the fllwer. PRC: the next meeting will be January 18 th. Carl Knight will be taking M.R. Lembright s place. Cmmunity Outreach: Deb has place ads in the papers fr the Putting Away Childish Things bk study.
