She has been in Richmond since 1984 and has been blessed to serve in Virginia Baptist life since 1988, beginning as the Director of the Hillside Baptist Center, then to WMU of Virginia as the Associate of Christian Social Ministries, then to Bon Air Baptist Church as the Associate Pastor for Global Ministries and now as the Executive Director/Treasurer of WMU of Virginia. In these years, Valerie completed the M.Div., M.S. and D. Min degrees while raising two children and serving in the local church in various capacities such as youth minister, women s ministry leader and Sunday School teacher. Throughout these years, Valerie has remained committed to meeting basic human needs for the poor and the marginalized. For the last ten years, Valerie has led a ministry in The Prostitution Zone in Richmond. The Streetwalking Ministry aims to reach women caught in prostitution with the good news that they are fearfully and wonderfully made, and that God has plans for an abundant life for them through Christ. Testimonies of the Streetwalking Ministry will soon be published in a work entitled, Grace in the Night: Divine Intersections in the Prostitution Zone. Valerie is married to Eldridge F. Smith, Jr., a Richmond native and owner of EFS4 Transport. They are members of Mt. Tabor Baptist Church, Richmond. PERSONNEL COMMITTEE: The Personnel Committee meets on the third Monday of each month at 7pm in the Conference Room. Any church member who has personnel questions or concerns is welcome to bring them to the committee either by talking to one of the members, writing a letter or , or attending a meeting (just ask to be added to that month s agenda please). Serving on the committee this year are: Becky Glass, Lynne Goetzke, Tracy Hudson, Gary Powell or Scott Seymour. Thank you! Next Meeting Dates: March 18 t, April 15 th, May 20 th, and June 17 th
2 1 st Place Chili Spoon Award HBC Missions Fundraiser Chili Cook-off would like to Congratulate. 1 st Place: Deb Puckett 2 nd Place: Judy North Thank you to all 14 chili entries in the Chili Cook-off and everyone that came out to support. We raised $ for HBC Missions! Welcome to Pathways to Sharing! CHILI COOK-OFF THANKS YOU. Thanks to everyone who attended and to all of our great cooks (14 entries). Congratulations to our chili winners: Debbie Puckett and Judy North. We were able to raise $ for HBC Missions! WMU PRESENTATION. On March 20 th at 7 PM in the HBC Fellowship Hall, Valerie Carter Smith, Executive Director/Treasurer of the WMU of Virginia, will speak. For the past ten years, Valerie has led a Streetwalking Ministry in the Prostitution Zone of Richmond. Her work aims to reach women caught in prostitution with the Good News that they are fearfully and wonderfully made, and that God has plans for them. This will be an inspiring program. Come and bring a friend. CLOTHING CLOSET FOR S.A.M.E. Men s casual clothing and large ladies clothing are especially in demand. Please place your donations in the SAME clothing bin in the HBC back door coat closet. WMU MARCH MISSIONS PROJECT: Hampton Ecumenical Lodgings and Provisions. HELP is one of the caring arms of the Peninsula that reaches out to the less fortunate people in our communities. Non-perishable items are needed. Please deliver to the Missions Corner by the HBC back door coat closet anytime during March. Items will be delivered to HELP on April 1. CARD FRONTS FOR DAY SUPPORT PROGRAMS. The Woman s Club of Hampton is collecting greeting card fronts for craft projects for the clients of local day support programs for the intellectually disabled. Please deliver your card fronts to the marked collection box in the Missions Corner. See you next week with more Pathways to Sharing. The singers who will be featured have been selected to participate in the 2019 Young Adult Honors Performance Series Program at the Sydney Opera House in Australia. Please come and support this fundraising concert as these young people strive to supplement the cost of this wonderful opportunity of a life-time.
6 Family Care Matters Emeritus Member of the Week: Nan Meadows (Add.: Regency Health & Rehab. Ctr., 112 N. He said the CT clearly showed one single nerve pinched by a bone spur due to arthritis. Treatment: Meds or Cortisone shot or Surgery (outpatient). I m not really in much pain now - therapy has helped tremendously. I ll get the shot - which could last from 6 months to years, can t pinpoint time frame - depends on individual. If it gets bad again or the shot doesn t work well or long, I could then do surgery. With the shot he said I could get back to regular schedule the next day. Can t wait to get back to Normal I miss my workouts! (Add.: 610 Lakeland Crescent, Yorktown, 23693) Dee Dee Horne: I have a second opinion scheduled for March 22. Please keep praying. His ankle has been replaced, tendons repaired, and heel realigned. So, all is well! Hopefully, after three days in hospital in VA Beach, he can go to rehab on the Peninsula. Mrs. Winstead s services will be held at her home church, at a later date. Our thoughts and prayers are with Kathy & Al Kruschwitz during this time of great loss. Lucille Phelps (sister of Becky Glass) Prayers for the Phelps Family during this time of great loss.
