We will host a joint lunch for BTSR/CBF at Noon on November 14 and an evening dinner for Virginia Baptist Women in Ministry at 6 p.m. An outside caterer has been secured to provide the meals, but we need to secure HBC folks to come and help with welcoming, collecting money, serving, and clean up. This is a great opportunity for folks to see our new space and to be in support of our fellow Virginia Baptists. So, if you are interested in attending the event, please send me an , or Facebook message, or text by November 1. If you are available to help with the elements of hospitality for the lunch, the breakfast, or both, let me know ASAP. All hands make the work lighter, and more fun. Pastor Betty A hearty welcome is extended to anyone who wishes to sing with the Sanctuary Choir for our Lessons and Carols service and John Rutter's GLORIA, a musical setting of the Latin Gloria. There will be a choir retreat this Saturday, October 21 st from 9-Noon, which will be devoted to learning Christmas music. Anyone who is interested in singing with us should contact Roy Belfield, Minister of Music/Organist at (336) or royjrbelfield@bellsouth.net.
3 - V O L U N T E E R S P O T L I G H T Marva Allen and Roosevelt Banks HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN VOLUNTEERING AT SAME? We started helping at 1 st Presbyterian so it s been about 4 ½ years. WHY DO YOU FEEL CALLED TO VOLUNTEER? Marva: I have taken care of vets for 20 years, I know that it helps them to get out into the community instead of staying home. They need everything when they come to me they have nothing. It is good for them to get out instead of staying home and sitting around. It is not always easy, but Roosevelt helps me and is a good worker. I m a little crazy I just like to help people. ANYTHING YOU WANT FOLKS TO KNOW ABOUT SAME? Marva: The people here have a lot of patience with others. And sometimes they are more helpful than the families The vets have no one families don t come for visits, they don t come at Christmas. Here volunteers always come over and find out how they can help whether it s reading a book or getting a shower. It s got to be God. Roosevelt: This is a good church; the people here are good and is blessed with good volunteers. They do things out of kindness. I am happy to volunteer. IT S TURKEY TIME AT SAME and we need some help. Would you be interested in taking home a frozen turkey, roasting it and bringing back the meat cut from the bone (and broth if you want to do that) to us by Monday, November 20 th at 9:30 a.m.? We will be getting 12 frozen Turkeys from the Foodbank on November 16 th which will give you time to thaw and cook them for Monday. Contact Amy ( ) if you can help.

We include letters of introduction and Christmas blessings as well as a photo. Then we bless the boxes in worship and ship them off to the nethermost parts of the earth wondering, Where did the boxes go? rainforest? Islands? Desert? Or tundra? Then it hit us. To the Why don t we spend our efforts cultivating and strengthening relationships with the children and foster families of the Village of Hope in Ukraine?! So that is what we are going to do. Over the next month, the R.A.s, G.A.s, and Youth will be learning about the ministry of Mina & Gennady Podgaisky, CBF Field Personnel, to the Street Children of Kiev through the Village of Hope.
