2 Circles of Diversity, 2016 Hampton Baptist Church participated in the Circles of Diversity experience last year that was held during the Season of Lent. This set of weekly encounters is designed to celebrate each individual s uniqueness while exploring religious differences in a safe, positive, and nurturing environment that will help us to better understand and respect each other. I participated in this initiative sponsored by the Hampton Unity Commission and look forward to doing so again this Spring. This year, we would like to extend to you another opportunity in meeting weekly with friends from different faith communities throughout the Hampton Roads area. If you are interested in participating this year, the deadline to sign up is March 25, Once you have signed up, you will get an opportunity to select the day and time that best suits your schedule. Each group will have 6, 2 hour sessions over a period of 6 weeks to meet with a guided process that facilitates conversation and dialogue. Ashleigh Diehl and I will be serving as Facilitators. So, don t hesitate to ask us if you have any questions. This is a great opportunity to get to know the diversity of the Hampton community and to explore some of your own questions about other faith systems and the communities connected to them. We hope you will take this opportunity to do so, and invite others who might also be interested in this interfaith dialogue. Betty Pugh Mills Maundy Thursday and Tenebrae at HBC March 24 ~ 5:45-8:00 p.m. Holy Week is the most important week in the whole of the Christian Year and we are going to explore this part of Christ s journey in some different ways from our traditional approach and service schedule. On Maundy Thursday, we will gather promptly at 5:45 pm in the new Fellowship Hall for a Passover Seder Experience for all ages. As you may recall, the last meal that Jesus had with his disciples was in the historical context of the Seder Passover meal. After we encounter the sights, sounds, and foods of that night, we will share in communion in the Fellowship Hall around the tables where we are gathered as the family of God. Then we will share our simple meal of soup, bread (to include gluten-free bread), and fresh fruit. At 7:00 pm, we will enter the worship space of our Sanctuary where a Tenebrae Service of Shadows will be offered as our worship. The service will be intergenerational and will involve adults, youth, and children in a variety of ways. Gifts of scripture, song, drama, and imagery will be coordinated as we journey with Jesus through this most important part of the journey. We hope that you will make every effort to attend and invite someone who might be wondering what Easter is all about. We continue to believe that a joyous Easter is just about impossible to attain unless we walk through the valley of the shadow. Luckily, this week, we do not do it alone! Betty, Rachel, & Tom

He reminds us that nothing we have is ours. All of it belongs to Him. This pattern of love has been shown in our giving of Baby Shower gifts this past February to the Teen Moms Support Program. Chaplain Joyce Everett itemized a dollar amount for all the gifts that were given. The total amount came to over $ Most of all, they were given out of love for our Lord. In our mission groups we will continue to pray for the 30 young women (ages 15-20) who are enrolled in this Hampton Roads Community Action Program. Thank you for your support of the Peninsula Rescue Mission. We provided several large bags of men s underwear to this ministry. Your gifts impact the lives of thousands of homeless men in our community. But more important than the physical needs, we have given them a chance for hope, a chance to encounter Jesus at the Peninsula Rescue Mission. I thank you, and the men thank you! John Twigg, Asst. 4 Town Hall Meeting March 30, 7:00 p.m. in the New Fellowship Hall You are invited to a Town Hall meeting in the new fellowship hall. The Steering Committee overseeing the Deeping Roots, Radical Rebuild Capital Campaign II will give you a detailed update on all aspects of the capital improvements project. This will be a time to ask questions about our entry into the facility. We will also provide an update on the pledges, finances, and any additional information related to the actual building process. 5 WALK THE CROSS a community-wide experience of Good Friday On March 25th at 5 p.m., meet at First Baptist Church, corner of Lincoln and N. King Street, or join us along the way. We weave through downtown Hampton, ending in the cemetery of St. John s Episcopal Church. This deeply moving experience for all ages includes readings, songs, and small tokens of remembrance for children at each station.
