December - Travel to Wakefield for our Christmas luncheon and dine at The Virginia Diner. These events are all subject to change. Anyone with any other ideas, PLEASE let me know!! Thanks, Sharon sharonmelson4@aol.com Windows into the Future: At their Nov. meeting, the Deacons unanimously approved a motion to set up a special fund for repair and replacement of the windows in our old building. Look around the building and you will see broken windows, rotting sills, windows that are about to fall out, and bulging walls created by broken lintels. The need for new windows is urgent! We are inviting contributions to a window fund to bring our windows up to date, thus enhancing the appearance of our building and cutting the cost of heating and air conditioning. To replace a complete window (the window, the sill, and the lintel) is $1400, but we certainly welcome contributions of any amount to the window fund. This would be a great way for Sunday School classes, WMU groups, youth groups, or families to honor or remember a loved one. You may write a check for any amount to Hampton Baptist Church, put Window Fund on the memo line, and place in the offering plate.

6 Lucille "Lu" (Evans) Phelps MAY 4, 1959 ~ FEBRUARY 26, 2019 (AGE 59) OBITUARY Lucille Lu Evans Phelps, 59, of Morehead City passed away Tuesday, February 26, 2019 at her home, after a long and courageous battle with metastatic breast cancer. Lu was born in Burlington, North Carolina on May 4, Mrs. Phelps received her Bachelor of Music from Meredith College in 1981 and her Master of Divinity in Christian Education from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky in Even as Lu battled cancer, she also worked toward and earned her Master of School Administration in She married Rev. David W. Phelps on December 29, They have celebrated 34 wonderful years of marriage together and have served the Lord together through ministry in local churches in North and South Carolina and also regionally to the churches of the Atlantic Baptist Association. Lu enjoyed writing preschool Sunday School curriculum for the Southern Baptist Convention, as well as teaching Sunday School to all age groups. She always loved using her gifts and talents to minister to others and share the love of Christ with them, vocationally through teaching chorus in public and private schools. Lu was an active member of First Baptist Church of Morehead City where she taught the Faith and Fellowship Sunday School class until her cancer would no longer allow it. Yet even as her cancer progressed, Lu was known for continuing to faithfully share the Gospel, to minister through prayer and friendship, and to disciple others. Lu always felt called to foreign missions and greatly enjoyed taking short term mission trips to the nation of Armenia, where her eldest daughter and son-in-law have served long-term. She was a beacon of light and kindness to all who encountered her and is loved faithfully by those who were privileged to know her. Lu has inspired all of us to stand with quiet strength in the face of adversity and to trust the Lord in the midst of life s turmoil. She has loved her family tremendously well and will be missed indescribably by her family until they are reunited in eternity in the presence of Christ. A funeral service will be held at 4:00 PM Saturday, March 9, 2019 at First Baptist Church of Morehead City with Dr. Nate Leonard, Dr. Fred McGehee, and Rev. Deborah Debby Murrell officiating. The internment will take place at 2:00 PM Sunday, March 10, 2019 at Jackson Cemetery in Jackson, North Carolina with Rev. Charlie Miller officiating. The family will receive friends following the service on Saturday at First Baptist Church of Morehead City. She is survived by her husband of 34 years, David W. Phelps of Morehead City and her two daughters, Sarah Beth (Phelps) Bdoyan and her husband Gegham Bdoyan of Wake Forest, NC, and Rachel Anne Phelps of Raleigh, NC. Affectionately known as Nunu, she is also survived by her two granddaughters, Emilee and Olivia Bdoyan. She is also survived by one sister, Becky Evans Glass and her husband David of Yorktown, VA; two brothers, Tommy Evans of Jackson, NC; Bobby Evans and his wife Gwen of San Francisco, CA, and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Thomas Edwin Ed Evans, Jr. and Dorothy Dot Prickett Evans of Jackson, NC and one infant sister, Dorothy Elizabeth Dee Evans. In lieu of flowers, Lu has requested that memorials be made to the Armenia Church Fund. Checks may be made payable to: Atlantic Baptist Association, Memo: Lu Phelps Memorial Armenia Church Fund. Please mail to: Atlantic Baptist Association, P.O. 7 HBC Gift Wrap Booth 2018 Report: Keep Calm Wrap On was another fun season full of collaboration and teamwork. The booth operated from Dec 1 December 24. We are especially thankful for Robert Hudson & Bill Abeyounis for coming in early consistently when there was a high demand. Also, Chris Farrow made a homemade island for the booth that holds boxes and bows which was a wonderful addition and helped keep everything centralized and organized!!! This year we profited $9, that will be distributed in the following ways as motioned by the Youth Committee and voted affirmatively by the Deacon body last fall: General Fund: $1, Youth Gift Wrap Fund: $8, The gift wrap warriors met recently and reviewed the season The past season seemed to run the smoothest yet!!!! However, the more we do it the more efficient we become. We are so thankful for this opportunity to contribute to our church. Thank you to each person who signed up for a shift. The booth helps us get our name out onto the Peninsula and attract new people to our church. The booth also allows us to get to know one another better, working and sharing side by side. But most importantly, the Gift Wrap Booth is a vehicle through which we can share the greatest gift of all the gift of Jesus Christ. In Christian Service, The 2018 Gift Wrap Leadership Team Alyson Watts, Carol Seymour, Alystra Barefoot, Scott Seymour, Jim Puckett, Ashley Cooper, Lynne Goetzke, Amy Witcover-Sandford, Chris Farrow & Susanna McKendree Pathways to Sharing Welcome to Pathways to Sharing!
