Position 1 takes communion to the choir loft and serves the ministers and the center section on Communion Sunday. All other Sundays this position takes offering from the center section. Position 2 goes to the balcony after serving/collecting offering on the side sections (from the center aisles). Position 3 needs to arrive fifteen minutes early and greet at the side door. This position assists with offering and communion in the window aisle. If you cannot perform your Deacon duty on a Sunday, please make arrangements with someone else to cover for you and notify the captain for your service. ANNOUNCEMENT: The Youth Pastor search committee is happy to announce that we will be posting the job opening information and start accepting resumes this week. Look around the building and you will see broken windows, rotting sills, windows that are about to fall out, and bulging walls created by broken lintels. The need for new windows is urgent! We are inviting contributions to a window fund to bring our windows up to date, thus enhancing the appearance of our building and cutting the cost of heating and air conditioning. To replace a complete window (the window, the sill, and the lintel) is $1400, but we certainly welcome contributions of any amount to the window fund. This would be a great way for Sunday School classes, WMU groups, youth groups, or families to honor or remember a loved one. You may write a check for any amount to Hampton Baptist Church, put Window Fund on the memo line, and place in the offering plate. This coming week a biopsy and PET Scan will be administered. After the results are known, he will meet with his doctor to determine treatment. Frank requests your prayers for good results. (Add.: 3514 Spottswood Pl., Hampton, 23661) Kay Powell Right hip still in pain - although it is a ruptured disk. Therapy three times a week is helping. Still waiting on a CT with contrast test to be performed; waiting on insurance to approve test before we can do it. Still have pain if I sit, walk or just plain move around to long. When I can sit for a while longer than I can now, I will be back to HBC. Bed rest and therapy exercises to give me strength. Thank you, HBC family, for your calls, cards and prayers. Friends and Family Bob Zimmerman (97) (stepfather to Sandy Matthews) passed away Sunday, January 27 in Florida. Please pray for his wife, Margie and the family. Arrangements are incomplete at this time. Tommy Austin (son of Roy Austin) is having surgery on Monday, Feb. 4 th. Donnie Payne (father of Dee Dee Horne) My dad went home from the hospital last Friday. He does not have a lot of patience for the healing process. Please continue to pray for his healing and for my mom who is trying to figure out what to feed him so he can gain some of his weight back. On another note, UPDATE: my dad's sister, Bonnie, has had the same surgery as my dad to remove the tumor, and doing well. Please pray for her and her husband. 4 Passing of former members of HBC: Rev. Dr. C. Roy Woodruff Asheville - On Friday, January 11, 2019, in Asheville, NC, The Rev. Dr. C. Roy Woodruff, Sr. died peacefully holding the hand of each of his beloved sons. Roy, age 80, built his life around helping others through his work as a Chaplain, Pastoral Counselor, Minister, Executive Director and through his relationships with his family, church, and community. Roy was born on Sept. 27, 1938, in Anniston, Alabama, to Dr. Gerald G. Woodruff and Flora (Campbell) Woodruff who preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Kay Carolyn Jernigan; a son Charles, Jr. and wife, Amy; a son, Earl David and wife Leslie; a brother Gerald and wife Betty; brothers-in-law Ted Lucas and Skip Jernigan, wife Bonnie; and sister-in-law Sue Harris, husband Roger. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Charles III, and Maia Grace; fifteen nieces and nephews and numerous great nieces and nephews and cousins. Funeral services were held at 11am on January 26, 2019 at the First Baptist Church of Asheville, NC. D Another from the Greatest Generation has passed, William G. Batte, Sr., Ph.D., at age 91 in Williamsburg, VA, following a brief illness. Known to his friends while growing up in Jarratt, VA, as "Billy-Gid", and otherwise known as William or Bill to others, he was an accomplished pianist and musician from an early age. William organized performing swing bands during his high school years, known as "Billy Batte and his Wings of Rhythm", which carried over into his college years at Virginia Polytechnic Institute (VPI, now Virginia Tech). Obtaining BS degrees in Electrical Engineering and Industrial Engineering, with recognition in the Phi Beta Kappa honorary society, graduate studies in Electrical Engineering were performed at the University of Virginia and subsequently earned his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering (Computer Circuitry design) from Case Western Reserve in Cleveland, Ohio. William's notable professional career began at NASA as he was actively recruited to head a team to design and implement satellite tracking stations worldwide in anticipation of project Mercury and putting a man in space. William subsequently became division chief of the Data Reduction computer facility at NASA Langley. After leaving NASA, William became a full professor in Electrical Engineering for computer circuitry design at the University of Virginia. The final phase of his professional career was devoted to his technical consulting company and real estate interests. At a personal level, Bill was known to his friends as always the quintessential polite Southern gentleman, kind and gentle, who maintained his wit and dry sense of humor to his final days. He is survived by his son, W. Granville Batte, Jr., M.D., daughter Sharon Kay Batte, and preceded by his wife of nearly 50 years, Nancy Parker Batte, also of Jarratt, VA, brother, John Feild Batte, Jr., and sister Hazel Batte Nelson. Bill and his music will be deeply missed by all who have known and loved him. May he rest in peace. There will be a Memorial Service held at WindsorMeade in Williamsburg on Saturday, Feb. 9 at 9:30 a.m. All are invited to attend.
