Aaron will be stepping in starting in April to lead the youth group. With the loss of Rachel 9 months ago, the youth committee and many parents worked diligently to make sure the group stayed on track until we found someone who would be a great fit with our group to lead and mentor them. The role will include leading Wed. evening activities, Sun. morning & Sun. evening activities, 2 yearly retreats, weekly communications and a couple other things with the support of the committee. Aaron not only comes to us with great energy and passion to lead these teenagers, but he is HOME GROWN - HBC is where Aaron actively grew in the youth group as well. 2 CHURCH RENOVATIONS: At their regularly scheduled Deacons meeting on Tuesday, March 26th, the Deacons approved the joint recommendation of the premises and financial planning committee to begin and complete the renovation of all the old windows in the church. The project s cost will be approximately $111,000 and the funds will come from a combination of the special windows fund, the memorial fund, and savings. The project includes replacement of 95 windows as well as masonry repairs to lintels and sills and the repair of the brick wall outside the wall of the former pastor s office. The timing of the work is still to be determined and we will keep all informed as that information becomes available. 5 From the WMUV Executive Director/Treasurer: Valerie Carter Smith "It seems like WMUV is experiencing revival!" written in a note to me from Marian Supplee of Hampton Baptist Church, Hampton. I presented to the Wednesday night crowd as they gathered to hear about the work of missions among Virginia Baptists. As a discussion followed, dominating the conversation on missions was the work of HOPE WMUV. As Hampton Baptist has 3 WMU groups, those gathered knew that we continue to meet human needs and share Christ as well as promote missions giving and going. As Hampton Baptists have been feeding the community since One leader shared how relationships continue to be established as folks are gathered around the tables. Many were pleasantly surprised however at our work in addressing mental health, human trafficking and domestic violence. A school nurse began sharing stories of real-life challenges faced daily in her elementary school including a human sex trafficking attempt. A young female therapist shared about the complexities of mental health and violence-related issues she sees in her practice. They both asked about the witness of the church related to these issues. In the last two weeks, traveling to the Eastern Shore, associational leadership training in southside and to Urbanna Baptist Church, I am too convinced that the wind of the spirit is moving in the work of the WMU of Virginia. A definition of revival is an instance of something becoming popular, active or important again." We are yet equipping and mobilizing the entire church to be on mission in traditional WMU-ways and in non-traditional ways too. It's my guess that there will probably never be a WMU cookie-cutter method for missions anymore in our complex world. In my opinion, that's okay! Let's move with the wind of the spirit and not miss this moment. WMU of Virginia, let's re-imagine and watch God.
