Tuesday, 1 2: 0 0 Noon 1 2: 1 3 p.m. Histori cal St art S h reve p ort Conve ntion Cent er Rotarians Serving Others On Tuesday we are going to get to see and experience our gift to our community! Last year all of you voted on our Big Project which is the Rotary Learning Bus. Our partners in this project are Step Forward, Common Ground, Shreve Memorial Library, Food Bank of Northwest Louisiana, Martin Luther King Health Center. In addition, collaborating organizations are Holy Angels, Bossier Parish Community College, Caddo Parish School Board and Williams Creative Group. A prize will be awarded following a drawing from those members who have submitted a photo of the Learning Bus as it has been spotted around town. This contest is open until next Monday. Photos of the bus taken at the Common Ground location on Southern are not eligible. your photo no later than Monday to the Rotary office with the date and location of the sighting. We will have fun volunteer opportunities in which we can participate. This project is so well organized that volunteers will have all the material and the scripts provided to you. 2 P a g e 2 Our club scholarship recipients stand with President Joe, from left: Leslie Williams (BPCC), Cecilia Rodriguez (Centenary College), Claire Hays (LSUHSC), Karen Smith (NW University College of Nursing), Bailey Brantley (LSUS) and LaTreavin Black (SUSLA) New Member Introduced Glen Adkins, a native of Bassett, Virginia, received his bachelor of music degree from Furman University in South Carolina. He then continued at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky where he earned his masters in church music and doctorate in musical arts. From there, Glen served eight years as the minister of music at First Baptist Church in Augusta, GA and then, for 15 years, he was the minister of music at First Baptist Church in Greenville, SC. Glen was a member of the Rotary clubs in both High Point, NC and in Greenville, SC. From Glen and his wife served as full time missionaries to the Roma (Gypsies) in Hungary. Since 2013, Glen has been the minister of music at First Baptist Church Shreveport. He and wife Clista have two daughters, two sons-in-law and three grandsons. Glen is also the executive director of the Academy for the Arts and director of the Shreveport Bossier Community Chorale. He is a Paul Harris Fellow with 15 years prior Rotary membership. His sponsor is Clovis Burch.

3 P a g e 3 Great American Clean-up Saturday, April 13th Robert Smith is chairing our Great American Clean-up project along with Andre Carter from BPCC Rotaract serving as co-chair. On Tuesday, Robert and Andre promoted this event where we will be cleaning up litter around the Renzi Center on Egan St. Our club, with help from our Rotary district, provided the Renzi Center with a grant this past year and we have participated in earlier clean-ups this year. This project is sponsored by Shreveport Green. After each team completes their project and the trash is delivered to the Fairgrounds to be weighed, everyone is invited for hot dogs and hamburgers cooked by the Caddo Parish Sheriff s Department and the Shreveport Police Department. This is a great service project to include children and grandchildren. Contact Robert Smith to get on the Rotary/Rotaract Team! Member News Rotarian Henry Coutret is currently at The Glen s Village Health Care in room 11. He is undergoing some rehab. His son John Coutret shared that Henry would enjoy visits from his Rotarian friends. Another contest entry! Our bus was spotted by Mary Winchell on February 27th at the intersection of Fairfield and Kings Hwy.

(Above) Leslie Williams, scholarship recipient from BPCC, is a member of the Rotaract Club there and has participated in several of our projects and many Rotaract community projects. She s a full time student with a full time job and on the Dean s List! (Above) Alan Prater, chair of our Scholarship Committee, has created a well-oiled committee structure. All the applications and the scoring is all now on-line and is a smooth process. Let Alan Prater or Judy Bellew know if you would like to join this committee. It s well organized! From famine to feast! Andy Shehee s ameraucana hens are now producing like crazy!
