Very proud to welcome to 2266, 14 of the 175 who achieved the highest level of Knighthood. Many of you commented on how meaningful and uplifting the ceremony was. I have participated in about twelve since becoming a 4th Degree myself and I always learn more each time. I recommend highly to you new SKs that you make an effort to attend one of the next Exemplifications, if you can, as it will mean more to you when you can sit back and relax and enjoy it as a spectator. There will be one in Marshall, TX in the Spring and, of course, there is always the DFW area one in Irving every Fall. What made this past one special was the dedication of the whole weekend to our recently departed Brothers, SK Chris Matera and SK Charles Lutz, two gentlemen Catholics who exhibited every day the Four Principals of our Order. Always a highlight of the event is the Friday night Hospitality Suite, and this year was no exception. Thanks to so many who made it a success, including our Brothers from the Notre Dame, Mother Teresa, and Fr. McGivney Assemblies. The hospitality couldn't have been sweeter thanks to my fellow bartenders, especially SK Kevin McGillis, who was there from start to finish. I know I should mention everyone by name but they all know they played a major role in the success. I will acknowledge SK Billie and his wife Ellen of Assembly 2506 for their annual explosion of patriotic decor. It helps make the room a perfect place for us all to celebrate. And, as always, Bob and Betty Wise discretely encouraging suite visitors to purchase raffle tickets as their cost of admittance. The eight great baskets helped sell the tickets, too. Due to our concerns from the last two years when we ended up as the only Hospitality Suite, I sent a request to the other assemblies in the region for a small donation ($50) and seven came through quickly, one even making it $100. Topping that off was a personal check from our new District Master, Sir Knight Bill Elliott. Continued on page 2 Page 1

2 Charting the Waters (Cont d) When I meet with our other three partner assemblies in this endeavor next week to balance the bills and receipts, I am comfortable that we will not be sweating deficit spending. I have personally thanked the contributors but will send a more formal letter to each FN this coming week. Everyone who attended will be happy to know that I committed to the larger Chagall I & II rooms which will give us much more space, especially for the delicious Saturday lunch served by our Sir Knights of Assembly 3004 for all the newly exemplified Sir Knights from our four assemblies. We are all proud of our support of the Fisher House but after this past week's developments where their CEO, Ken Fisher, came to the rescue of the families of recent deceased servicemen, helping arrange to get bodies home and benefits paid, we need to increase our attendance at the dinners we participate in, maybe even doing more of them, if possible this coming year. Not too many more meaningful opportunities to exemplify our Principal of Patriotism come our way each year. We budgeted to add the support of one additional seminarian this year and our Diocesan Vocations Coordinator, Vic Muse is asking that we make a choice soon. I'll have a recommendation by our October 28th meeting for approval. The efforts of our Diocese in this activity was duly noted by the National Diocesan Vocation Directors who came to Dallas last month for their annual conference. I was once again privileged to be part of the pickup team which drove 156 Directors and staff- all young and enthusiastic priests, many of whom have been ordained less than five years - from DFW and Love Field to the Hyatt Regency downtown. It is so spiritually invigorating to spend this time one-onone with these dynamic priests who are the future of our Faith. We always can use more drivers so when the next opportunity arises I will give notice. It's a very rewarding couple of days. As I write this the VA BBQ is about to commence and I regret that I am out of town...again. Maybe next year. I really look forward to hearing the great stories that always evolve from the afternoon. Fall Ball is shaping up very nicely thanks to the efforts of Bob Wilson for Nov 16. The word is being spread to the adjoining assemblies, councils, and parishes. There are conflicts (aren't there always?) with the All Saints Memorial Mass, and the Council 6065 Bingo. May God watch over all of these. I want to welcome back Roger Scott to our Assembly, after a long absence. Having the Diocesan Deputy among us is always a blessing. And the Christmas Party is definitely on for Dec 8 at Ye Shire. Details to follow soon. We will once again invite our supported seminarians. And I am happy to announce the Garage Sale is back on for March 22. We need to get serious about hangers, racks, etc., clothes, and all sorts of stuff. Keith Rock will be looking for many helpers among the SKs and their Ladies. 3 COLOR CORPS COMMANDER S REPORT I want to thank all the Color Corps (CC) members that participated in the Plano Hike for Life Kick-Off Ceremony and the Fall Exemplification in September. At the Exemplification Mass, counting the new Sir Knights that bought their swords prior to the Mass, there were 99 CC members at the Mass, not counting those in light blue and gold. Quite impressive! Once again, I ask the Color Corps (CC) members to seriously consider participating in CC events in locations other than their home parishes. The regulars that consistently move around are not always available, so I m asking for the help of all. More is always better. The events currently scheduled for the remainder of October and November are as follows: October 13, Procession and Mass in conjunction with the Pilgrimage at San Juan de Los Lagos Church in West Dallas starting at 9:00 AM. This is a Diocesan event. October 27, Council 6065 s rescheduled Corporate Communion at St. Mark s at the 9:00 AM Mass. November 1, All Saints Day, Feast Day Mass at All Saints at 7:00 PM. November 2, Council s Memorial Mass/Corporate Communion at St. Paul s at 5:30 PM. November 9, Council 6065 s Memorial Mass/Corporate Communion at St. Mark s at 5:30 PM. November 11, 15 th Annual Veteran s Day Parade at St. Paul s starting at 9:00 AM. November 16, Council s Memorial Mass/Corporate Communion at All Saints at 5:00 PM. November 24, Council s Memorial Mass/Corporate Communion at Prince of Peace at 9:30 AM. November is going to be a busy month. Strong CC turnouts will be greatly appreciated. All funds collected are given to Msgr Michael Olson and Fr. Fernando Carranza for their distribution to seminarians in need. This is an important program, as these seminarians do not have a "full boat" college scholarship with all the trimmings nor do all of them have family resources to help them in their needs. Recently Council collected money to help one of the seminarians buy a winter coat. Yes, seminarians get cold too. These pins show YOUR support for our seminarians, especially those who the Assembly supports through the RSVP Program. The pins are $10 each. Show you care. Support vocations, your future depends upon it. If your Council does not have any pins, see our Faithful Trustee Mike Greene who always has some pins. Page 4

5 Computers for the Blind By SK Jim Massey We have for several years collected computers and related parts for a group of gentlemen that retrofit the equipment and donate to the blind. They have received several inquiries requesting whether or not that they will accept a single printer, fax, telephone, TV, etc. They are primarily interested in computers and related parts, BUT will take these other items and they will be accepted if they are delivered to their shop on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1-5PM at 1201 S. Sherman St.in Richardson, Texas, Suite 204. If you have any questions you may feel free to contact Gil at or gb9130@gmail.com They are appreciative for the Knights and their friends and request that we keep equipment flowing to them. This group of gentlemen is to be commended for the continuation of this service to the handicapped and deserve our assistance when we find surplus computers and related parts that they can utilize in their operations.
