May this holy season bring you the happiness, joy, and peace of our Savior s birth. Several people have asked the outcome of the Fall Ball. I was advised that, barring any additional expenses, we made a profit of $4.83. The November visit to the Fisher House included a new Sir Knight, Blake Thompson, who prepared the meal the morning of the visit and donated all of the food through his employer, Canyon Foods. Thank you, Blake. Blake was the second Sir Knight outside of Council to participate in the Fisher House project. Let s hope that this starts a trend, so that we have help from all of our Councils on this once a quarter project. As stated at the November meeting, we have a semi-annual planning meeting scheduled for Saturday, January 12, 2013, in McGivney Hall beginning at 9:00 a.m. Immediately following that meeting, there will be another meeting to discuss what needs to be done to improve participation in Assembly events. I would like as many Sir Knights as possible to attend both of those meetings. If you can only attend the participation meeting, it should start at about 10:00. Coffee, orange juice, and donuts will be provided by the Assembly. If you cannot attend the meetings and have input as to the reasons for lack of participation, please feel free to call me, or if you prefer anonymity, please send me a letter in the mail with no return address. Or, you can leave a note for me at the desk at St. Mark Parish Office, and I will pick it up from there. Continued on Page 2 Page 1

2 Charting the Waters (Cont d) A total of 55 SKs, wives, and family members attended the Assembly s annual Christmas Party on Sunday, December 9, 2012, at the Ye Shire Tavern in Richardson. The party was co-chaired by SK Will and Alice Alt and SK Rick and Karen Ouellette. Thank you for a wonderful afternoon. See more details later in this edition. We have scheduled our annual spaghetti dinner for Saturday, February 2, 2013, at St. Mark. Sir Knights Jim Rizzo, Pat Haney, and John Vasquez will co-chair this event. More information will be available in January. Help is going to be needed for set-up, serving and clean-up. This date was chosen to assure that it was held prior to Ash Wednesday, which is February 13, We are hoping to increase the membership of our Assembly at the spring Exemplification, which will take place on the weekend of April , in Palestine, TX. That means in order to have applications read prior to that weekend, we must have all paperwork, including Form 4s, reservation forms, and checks submitted no later than the March 25 th meeting. I will have the paperwork for the Exemplification ready for distribution to the Assembly as soon as I get it from the District Master. The Faithful Admiral or I will visit each Council supported by our Assembly, so that all 3rd Degree Knights have the opportunity to join us. The requirement that a man be a member of the Knights for six months prior to applying to the 4 th Degree was dropped at the November 2012 K of C Board Meeting. Therefore, you can recruit any 3 rd Degree member, regardless of his time with the Knights. Remember, there is no Assembly meeting in December due to the Christmas holidays. Our next meeting will be on Monday, January 28, 2013, at 7:30 p.m. in McGivney Hall. COLOR CORPS COMMANDER S REPORT Since I mentioned all the noteworthy November events for the Color Corps (CC) in last month s report, I want to particularly thank the CC members that participated in

3 COLOR CORPS COMMANDER S REPORT Since I mentioned all the noteworthy November events for the Color Corps (CC) in last month s report, I want to particularly thank the CC members that participated in the Plano Christmas Parade on December 8. We had six from our Assembly, one from the Mother Teresa Assembly, and three from the Fr. McGivney Assembly. The weather was good, and the spectators always give us strong recognition. Besides, I think it s important to show the flags, and there were many that stood and showed proper respect for the American flag. We have no more CC events scheduled for December, and below are the only two scheduled for January. Let s continue to pray that we don t have any funeral services to support over the Christmas season. For January we have: January 19, the 40 th anniversary Roe v. Wade Memorial Mass at the Dallas Cathedral at 10:00 AM. The Mass will be followed by the Dallas March for Life from the Cathedral Plaza to the Earle Cabell Federal Courthouse, where Roe v. Wade was first filed in January 26, Council s Memorial Mass/Corporate Communion at St. Paul s at the 5:30 PM Mass. I believe it will be followed by BINGO and a meal. It looks like we ll get a break for the holidays, but please stay flexible, because we never know what s over the horizon. I try to keep a clean tuxedo shirt available at all times. The Color Corps has been given two ceremonial swords, and I am offering them for sale with the consent of our Faithful Navigator. One was donated by the family of our deceased Brother SK Armand Charron, and the other was given to SK Ray Vasinda by an unknown source. They certainly have not been used very often, because both are in excellent condition. I bought a used one from a Brother Sir Knight in 1992 for half price at $80. The reason I am offering the swords for sale is that they are of a better quality than those currently available from the Sir Knight Sword Company, our usual source. I would rather sell them and put the money in the Regalia Fund, than hold on to them for use as loaner regalia. This style of sword is no longer available, and as I indicated, they are in excellent condition. The Faithful Navigator and I agreed to sell them for $125 each. They are well worth the price. If you are interested, please call me at and we can make arrangements for you to see one of them. I will bring one to the January Assembly meeting for viewing. As always, the invitation to join the Color Corps is open to all of our Assembly members who may be interested. If you d like to give the Color Corps a try before making a commitment, please contact one of us listed below. We can get you involved without a formal practice, and we have some loaner regalia. Fraternally, Bill Ptacek Jim Massey Paul Krusac CCC DCCC DCCC Christmas Luncheon On Sunday December 9 th, fifty-five Assembly members, family and friends celebrated the Christmas season at the Ye Shire Tavern for a delicious lunch, dessert, cocktails and lots of socializing. While guests mingled and dined, Christmas music played in the background. Again this year, two Redemptoris Mater seminarians attended our event. One of which we support, Ricardo Relagado, brought another seminarian, also named Ricardo, with him as the policies at Redemptoris Mater seminary require that the seminarians travel in pairs. The other supported seminarian is currently in Denver studying theology. Our Faithful Navigator presented several awards including our traditional Knight of the Month, and the others were Certificates of Merit or Appreciation for all the work done in support of our Assembly. The Knight of the Month award, which really covers the July through December time frame, was awarded to SK Bob Wilson for all of his work leading up to the Fall Ball, and his dedicated participation in Color Corps events. Certificates of Merit went to SK Ed Munno for his continued work at the Fisher House; SK Blake Thompson for his recent Fisher House participation, as well as for his preparation and donation of the food; SK Ed and Lillian Stankunas for their work at both the Hospitality Suite and the Fall Ball; SK Ron and Barbara Schoof for their efforts at keeping the Hospitality Suite running efficiently; to SK Ron Engler for his efforts on the Patriotic Rosary, and for handling of the tickets and financial data for the Fall Ball; and to Betty Wise who sold the raffle tickets at both the Hospitality Suite and the Fall Ball. Without the proceeds from the raffles, both activities would have lost money. Although several of the awardees didn t attend, they will be presented at the January meeting. Once again the staff of Ye Shire was most gracious and hospitable for this second Assembly Christmas luncheon at this location. Guests picked gifts, provided by event coordinators Alice & Will Alt and Karen & Rick Ouellette, ranging from stuffed animals, LED Christmas ornaments, wine and much more from a beautifully decorated Christmas tree. 8 Fall Ball On Saturday evening, Nov17 th, the Assembly hosted our annual Fall Ball. About 100 people attended including Assembly members and their wives, SEAS parishioners and other guests to dance and listen to Big Band Orchestra music. The band provided and enjoyable and entertaining evening. There are several people to thank; to all of the Sir Knights and wives who came in morning to set up the hall; to the ladies mostly from SEAS Nancy Sisler, Cathy Causer, Suzanne Hess, Linda Bolin and Barb Meyer who made sandwiches and prepared trays of fruit and vegetables; to FN Paul and Carolyn Krusac and SK Ed and Lillian Stankunas who procured the food and drinks, to SK Ron Engler who took over the ticket sales and other functions when the Fall Ball Chairman SK Bob Wilson was called to Florida to be with his daughter who was ill, and our crew of Certified Bartenders, Pat Haney, Chris Matera, Jim Rizzo and Al Schneider, who kept our guests thirst quenched. And a special thanks to all the members and wives who stay after the Ball was over to put the food away and clean up the hall as Council 7850 was having a Pancake Breakfast on Sunday morning.
