2 - 2 - When the perod between 'sghtngs' of especally remembered colleagues can be as long as 42 years, to meet them agan on Anzac Day brngs great pleasure and depth of feelng. Judy (ROE) Carson, Bll KALBFELL, and Clarre HERMES were wth us for the frst tme and many memores were strred, also Dana (MATTHEWS) Parker & the HINDS. We mssed Florence ESTEP and heard from Bll that she has had some health problems, and now hope, wth them, that the current treatment wll be successful. Alf BOBIN has been n and out of hosptal n Gympe, but despte beng below par, he has been organsng wth Dasy the ssue of the W.U. Newsletter. We are sorry to report the death of Jock McCORKELL at the age of 68, and we are grateful to Ted Brown, Stewart Southam and Geoff Patence for notfyng us. Jock was famous n Ausse Rules football for many years, as shown n newspaper trbutes. Stewart recalls that Jock was "a great asset to our Brsbane CB sde when we felded a team". Thanks, Geoff. We admt that our photographc secton would not be acceptable to any of the "glosses" but we hope that you enjoy t. It's the best we can do wth old photographs and copes of copes! Of course, we would apprecate the loan of more photographs whch would copy well for sharng wth us all n the Newsletters. To those on the sck lst, our best wshes for a great mprovement n health. Remember, we want to see you all for THE BIG REUNION NEXT YEAR! Madelne Chdgey, Publcty Offcer.

5 Central Intellgence Corps Assocaton t Another 'story 1 - ths tme from RAY EDDOLLS, one of the "Brsbane Twelve" I arrved at Central Bureau n Aprl 1944 wth eleven other youthful Oxbrdge under-graduates, all dsgused as Warrant Offcers Class II and swelterng n Brtsh Army battle dress. We had been recruted from unversty for a sx-month course n mltary Japanese at Bedford, and after selecton for attachment to the Australan Army had undergone a short perod of near Rotherham. Then followed square-bashng at the I Corps depot a fascnatng journey to Brsbane across the North Atlantc (aboard the Queen Mary), the Unted States (by tran) and the wde Pacfc (by ar - from San Francsco). We were later renforced at CB by another sx Tommes, but the "Brsbane Twelve" managed somehow to retan a separate dentty. My recollecton of our work at CB because the daly routne of translaton n overshadowed by the powerful mpressons of I was delghted by the seemngly contnuous on stlts and the warmth of what the locals s rather vague, possbly the hut n Ascot Park was lfe n the sub-tropcs, sunshne, the wooden houses referred to as wnter. I remember the small huts at Kedron Park, where we were accommodated untl February 1945, and the heavy meat det at the sergeants' mess there. I also recall the enormous cockroaches wth whch we shared tents besde the racecourse at Ascot before the great push north to Luzon n md Not all of us remaned n Brsbane, however. My old schoolmate Cyrl James was transferred to Vctora Barracks, Melbourne, not long after our arrval n Queensland: another of the Twelve, Peter Hutt, got hmself posted north to "the slands" and no doubt became more of a solder than I ever was. The rest of us toled on at CB and enjoyed our weekly days-off, often spendng them at Redclffe or "down the coast" at Surfers', whch was easly reached by U.S. Army truck from Ascot. So dyllc was our lfe, n mltary terms, that I remember beng puzzled by the remark of an Australan sergeant at Kedron who sad he felt sorry for us. He was not beng ronc though: mother's tender care. we were very young, after all, and so far from I could go on and on, but I dare not rsk the edtor's wrath. Suffce t to say that the wonderful Brsbane experence was re-lved by nne of the Twelve n September 1984, when they met at a reunon n Manchester. I was not there, havng emgrated to Vctora from Lverpool n January 1950, but I consder myself the most fortunate member of the group n one respect: I am now about to retre to the Redclffe Pennsula! Ray Eddolls (VB ) Thank you, Ray, for re-awakenng mpressons and memores of our young lves n Brsbane. f We can now look forward to seeng you f we are able to arrange an nvason B-Centennal Celebratons n there n your retrement from the south for CB
