Let each of you look not to your own interests, but to those of others. Philippians 2:4-5 Stewardship is often confused with volunteering. Stewardship is not primarily an activity, but an attitude - a way of life. Giving of our time, talent, and treasure Have you remembered St. Joseph Church in your will?
2 The Twenty-Sixth Sunday of Ordinary Time Ez 18:25-28; Ps 25:4-5, 6-7, 8-9; Phil 2:1-11 or 2:1-5; Mt 21: in the presence of the angels I will sing your praise.. Psalm 138:1 When I was bapitized many years ago, my godfather gave me a gift: M.J. Hummel s depiction of the guardian angel, which I still have. There s a deep peacefulness in the painting, showing an angel leading a small child by the hand as they walk together. The child, wearing sturdy boots, carries a hiking staff. In their path is a snake with its head raised, yet neither the angel nor the child seem afraid. Instead, they re fully attentive to each other s presence and to the path of the snake as they move forward. This painting reminds me that, so many times in the Scriptures when angels announce startling news, their message is often accompained by the words, Don t be afraid. May we live this day and the days to come conscious of, and grateful for, the presence of these angelic protestors and guides, in whose company we can find our authentic voice and sing God s praise. Sr. Chris Koellhoffer, I.H.M., Living Faith, Terence Hegarty, Editor Reminder: We will only publish the prayer list at the beginning of each month. Please call the Parish Office, , to add or remove names to the prayer list each month. We can t solve the problems of the homeless but we CAN provide them with the basic necessities: food, shelter, and people who care. I hope you will join us in this wonderful ministry. 4 The Twenty-Sixth Sunday of Ordinary Time A woman s risk of breaking a hip is equal to her risk of developing breast cancer, uterine and ovarian cancer combined, according to the National Osteoporosis Foundation website. This is why Basilica of Saint Joseph Proto Cathedral is hosting Life Line Screening, the nation s leading provider of preventive health screenings on Monday, October 16, The screenings provided include an ultrasound of the heel, which is a first-rung osteoporosis risk test. This is an important test to take during October, a month dedicated to recognizing bone and joint disorders such as osteoporosis. Screenings include tests to check for blocked carotid arteries, atrial fibrillation, and high blood pressure, which are the three leading risk factors for stroke. Nearly 800,000 strokes will occur this year. Other tests check for abdominal aortic aneurysms and PAD, also called hardening of the arteries in the legs. Many events also offer blood tests, including cholesterol, glucose and c-reactive protein screenings, as well as take-home colon cancer early detection tests. Screening packages start at $139. Single tests cost around $70. For more information regarding the screenings or to schedule an appointment, call or go to or text the word circle to Pre-registration is required. Save the Date!
