Matthew 1:23 Mary serves as a model of stewardship. By saying yes to God, Mary bore the Savior of the world - Emmanuel. She chooses to follow God s will without regard to the personal cost to herself.

For it is through the Holy Spirit that this child has been conceived in her. Matthew 1:20 Regional Reconciliation In the spirit of preparation for the arrival of our Savior, a regional Reconciliation service will be held at St. Joseph Church this Sunday, December 18, at 2:00 p.m. in church. Everyone is invited. The birth of Jesus into our human family was a marvelous proof of God s love for us. And yet, this beautiful gift was overshadowed by a paradox when Joseph discovered that Mary was with child. He decided to divorce her quietly but received a revelation that he was to take her into his home, for the child to be born was conceived by the Holy Spirit. You can imagine Joseph s bewilderment. But he responded to the mystery courageously with faith and trust. And he would have the need to do so again because more mysteries and paradoxes were still to come. Sometimes we, too, experience mysteries and paradoxes in our lives that tax our understanding. Like Joseph, we can choose to move through them with faith and trust. We can ask for the grace to believe that when the time is right, we will find meaning and peace, just as Joseph did. Fr. This collection supports the local services of Catholic Charities in the Archdiocese of Louisville. Your generosity helps to fund many vital social ministries, including the Sister Visitor Center, the mother and infant care program, family support services, prison ministry, parish social ministry, senior social services, and the migration and refugee program. Please give when the Catholic Charities Collection is taken up in our parish next weekend. St. Joseph s NEWEST website Note: The Adoration Chapel will be closed from Monday December 19 thru Friday December 30. We will return to regular schedule on Monday January 2.

4 FOURTH SUNDAY OF ADVENT Our parish has been blessed with two recent gifts from the estates of Carolyn Jean Shain and Louis and Betty Jo Simms. Their planned giving witnesses to their desire to support the mission of our parish beyond their lives on earth. None of us knows what we will need during our lifetime, so a planned gift is a way to be generous with resources we are no longer dependent upon. When we include our parish in our estate, we witness to our desire to serve the mission given to us. We are grateful for the generosity of every donor. Haiti Sewing Ministry 2017 January will be here before we know it....and that means it s time to SEW FOR HAITI! This year we will sew on the following Saturdays: Sewing in Maloney Room January 14, 21, 28 and February 4 from 8:30 to 12:00 noon. Blessing in Church February weekend Please mark your calendars and plan to help us. We have plenty of jobs for nonsewers such as sorting, pressing, cutting, pinning, etc. Also, if you don t sew but would like to be a part of this Haiti Ministry, you might consider a donation of $10.00 for a Love Dress and $5.00 for a pair of shorts. These donations will help defray the cost of this project and allow more people to take part in it. We thank all those people who have helped us in past years with their monetary donations. You ve helped to make this sewing ministry possible. God bless you. There is a need for Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion at our Sunday Masses. We encourage and welcome you to join this ministry. It is a beautiful opportunity to connect with others through the Body and Blood of Christ. The Archdiocese of Louisville s Office of Worship is offering formation programs for Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion and those who would like to become involved in this ministry. A Communion Ministry Formation program for those preparing to enter this ministry will be offered January 10 and 17, 2017, from 6:00 8:00 p.m. at St. Joseph Church. There is no fee. During this Season of Advent as we await the birth of our Lord, may you experience Hope, Joy, Love, and Peace Catholic Services Appeal Update Bringing Christ To Others Our parish target: $ 110,700. Journey of Hope is a unique divorce recovery ministry program addressing concerns of divorced or separated Catholics. It offers support on important issues that result from divorce. The emphasis on prayer, scripture, and the teachings of the Catholic Church lead to healing and a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ. The next 15-week session begins on Thursday, January 12, 2017, from 7:00 9:00 p.m. in the Maloney Room of Flaget Hall. The cost is $50 which includes all materials, text and workbooks. Scholarships are available.
