3 MARRIAGE MOMENTS: What does equality mean in marriage? Does it mean one is the boss and the other follows? Of course not. It means recognizing each other's talents. Sometimes leading, sometimes following but always honoring the essence of the other. It's not a zero sum game that if one wins, the other loses. Win/win solutions work best. PARENTING POINTERS: The kind of adults my children are now is directly related to the kind of children I continually told them they were. By Susan Vogt, Birthday Blessings to... Debra Phillips August 3rd Terry Hickman August 8th Bernadette Stanley August 14th Carolyn Drake August 27th Happy Birthday! We thank God for the gift of you! St. Monica will offer Children s Liturgy of the Word at our 9am Mass for children ages The children will be invited back to the parish hall before the Liturgy of the Word to reflect and learn about that Sunday s Gospel reading through prayer, art and song. They will return to the church during the offertory before the Liturgy of the Eucharist. If you would like to volunteer as a helper or facilitator one or more Sundays a month please contact Marilyn Keene ( office or cell ). Our first session will be held on September 2nd. Terry Hickman is stepping down as chair of the Service Committee and asks all members to attend a meeting on Monday (8/27) at 7pm (following Mass) to elect a new chair and discuss the Fall Festival Dinner. Anyone who works with organizing and completion of hospitality and other events (Fall Festival, Summer Picnic, Fish Fry, Bereavement Meals, Sunday Dinners, special events after Sunday Mass) are asked to come. This includes those who manage kitchen supplies, food prep, serving and clean-up and those who send out cards and manage the call lists for food. Your input is important to help us move forward. St. Monica is developing Family Spotlight as a way of encouraging and supporting our members to bring their families to Mass. What is Family Spotlight?.. St. Monica Family Spotlight is for families of St. Monica to invite their family members who may or may not attend regularly during our service or church in general. We want their Sunday to be special when they sign up to attend on their Sunday. There will be two representatives from each family who will need to be the point of contacts. If our families have deceased members we want to encourage a photo of their loved one to be brought with them on their Sunday to be recognized and remembered. We also would want to encourage the spotlighted family to have some of their members to be a part of our Mass celebration whether it is through a song, bringing up of gifts, ushers and collection or to just be a part of their family celebration. Hopefully, by this invitation we can retain and reach out to those members and have them join us regularly here at St. Monica. Our goal is to begin the Sunday after Labor Day. There is a calendar on the back table in church to sign up your family. Please write the family last name in the Sunday block of your choice including a contact number. Family Spotlight Team responsibilities... Getting with the families to make sure we have an idea of how many and if they would like to participate in parts of the Mass. Provide letters that will already be drafted to their points of contact. Possibly call family members if their contact people need help. By having four people, we can have a team member meet once a month so you won t get burned out with meetings. If you would like to be a part of the Family Spotlight Team please sign up in the back of church or see Kim Hickman for details. We will need at least four people to be a part of this team. Thank you and I look forward to working with our team and our families. Kim Hickman (FS Team Leader)
