2 TWO THE MAU NEWS FRDAY JULY Summer Camp s n Fe Shape Supt. Vaughan MacCaughey Wrtes Of Klauea Camp And Says Accommodatons For Several Hundred Are Now Ready The Klauea Summer Camp whch has been establshed through the efforts of a number of publc sprted ctzens of the slands opened last Frday wth an enrollment of 75 persons. n a letter to The Mau News last week wrtten under date of July 7 Vaughan MacCaughcy wrtes about condtons at the camp and accommodatons for handlg those attendg. The buldgs have been adapted to the needs of ths Camp a vey satsfactory manner and a great deal of credt s due t: the tedous prelmary labors of the men and women who have brought the Camp to shape. The commssarst s excellent condton and s servg exceptonally good meals of a satsfyg character. The Dormtores are well arranged lght ry and cheerful. The lavatores and ether facltes of ths character are wholly satsfactory for the purposes of the Camp. The tanks aro full and there s no reason not to expect the water supply to last throughout the Summer. am partcularly v. The Summer School buldg wll be used not only for clashes but also the eveng for assembles concerts llustrated lectures and entertaments. Accommodatons Plentful n a word the Camp s a very satsfactory condton and now lacks only the personnel to make t t un qualfed success. There are accommodatons for about two huudrc d people and t wll be a great pty f the Camp s not tlled throughout July and August. The dormtory accommodatons commssarat water supply etc. are all fully adequate to care for most confotably &ome two hundred people. Gasole Bolg Pots Tell The Story Contrary to the opon held by a great many people the real value of gasole s not known by the gavly tes. Ths test tells nothg about the vaporzg and conbustv e qualfes of the fuel as has been poted out by the Natonal Bureau of Standards at. Washgton. Only the bolg pot test s really effcent. Bolg pots of course mean exactly what the words say. That s t y are pots on the thermometer at whch t lqud wll beg to bol. The reason why bolg pots are the test of good gasole would seem to be puzzlg. A lttle thought however wll make t pla. For a cold enge to start qud ly the gasole m:l vaporze at a low temperature. Ths vaporsaton pot s of course the same as the bolg pot. To gel quck and smooth acceleraton somewhat hgher bolg pots are necessary and for full power and long mleage the fuel must have stll hgher bolg pots. Real hgh qualt ygasole must have complete and contuous cha c.f bolg pots rangg from the low to the hgh. Combuston starts w the lov.f.n and flashes on through the unform cha from low to hgh wth the result that there s full powered stantaneous combuston. Elmate one lk and the full power cha s broken. The famous Red Crown gasole s straghtdstlled fuel whch has ths complete cha of bolg pots so that ts use means easy startg quck and smooth acceleraton dependable power and long mleage. The Farm Loan Act Some facts regardg ts purposes and the condtons under whch Loans are made. The Farm Loan Board whch was created by Act 225 of the Terrtoral Legslature 99. wll beg ts dutes on July st and applcatons for loans may be fled on and after that date. The followg summary wll gve a general dea of the provsons of the Act and expla the purposes and condtons. Persons engaged agrculture who Are terested n the matter should wrte to the Secretary Farm Loan Board of Hawa Hono lulu T.. for further formaton. A pamphlet settg forth the detals of the Act may be secured by applyg to the tax assessor deputy or sublan d agent of each dstrct. Purposes Of The Farm Loan Act Thefull ttle of the Act reads" An Act to Encourage the Establshment of a Rural Populaton by Provdg Loans to Assst Agrcultural Develop ment." The Act further stpulates that ts purpose s to ad practcal farmers persons who derve the whole or a part of ther lvg from actve management of or partcpaton farmg ts broadest sense cludg thereunder general farmg cane growg frut growg grazg daryg the handlg of any form of lvestock or poultry and any other form of agrcultural development. t also specfes that a borrower must be a ctzen of the Unted States of Amerca and must have been a resdent of the Terrtory of Hawa for at least three 3) years next precedg the date of the applcaton for a loan. ts purpose s therefore to assst Amercan ctzens resdent the Terrtory of Hawa who are bona fde resdents on the land. The purposes for whch loans may be made are dvded to three classes: Class A. To provde for the purchase of land for agrcultural purposes. Class B. To provde buldgs fences and other permanent mprovements to provde for breakg up and plantg and cultvatg land and the purchase of fertlzers seeds machery mplements and other equpment necessary to the proper cultvaton of the land or other farmg operatons and the purchase of lvestock for workg Breedg or fatteng purposes.. Class C. To pay off debtedness curred for any of the. purposes specfed by the Act or when relef from debtedness wll ad the applcant hs fanng operatons. Condtons Under Whch Loans Are Made All loans must be secured by frst mortgage. All loans except short tme loans Class B must be repad semannual stallments on an amortzaton bass addton to the terest. The amortzaton plan requres that a certa sum on the prcpal plus the nterest on the amount outstandg be pad every sx months untl the prcpal s pad. For example f a man borrows one thousand dollars for the purchase of farm land the repayment may be made ffty dollars plus the terest at sx months perod. At the end of ten years the prcpal would be. entrely pad under ths plan. Arrangements may be made to pay tho prcpal less than ten years. Addtonal payments sums not less than twenty dollars ($20.00) or the whole amount of the prcpal may be pad on any regular stallment date. The rate of terest shall be sx per centum (6f) per annum smple terest. No loan shall be made for less than one hundred dollars $00.00) or for more than three thousand dollars. ($ ). No loan shall exceed ffty per centum (509O of tho value of the ecurty offered.
