This historical drama offers a vision of a troubled India steeped in apathy. Persian with subtitles. This is the first Iranian neo realist film and the first Iranian film to be shot entirely on location in a village (a trend now characteristic of Iranian films). It depicts a farmer with a close attachment to his pregnant cow. When he loses his cow and his livelihood along with it, he descends into madness. The man animal relationship is symbolic of man s relationship with nature, and by extension the ancient landscapes and culture of Iran.
