Thanksgiving Ingathering Donate by: October 28th The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) is the not-for-profit global humanitarian aid organization of the United Methodist Church. The Iowa Ingathering helps provide the approximately $4 million in supplies. UMCOR kits help care for the most vulnerable people during times of crisis. They help sustain everyday life by providing basic necessities to people who lack access to essential supplies. St. Luke s will be taking a financial gift to the Ingathering. Please use the slips included in your bulletin to make a donation in the offering plate or at the church office. 6 IIPL Executive Director Speaks TODAY, Sunday, October 14 at 3:00 p.m. Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 1755 Delhi St. The Dubuque Chapter of Iowa Interfaith Power & Light is hosting Iowa IPL Executive Director, Matt Russell on Sunday, October 14 at 3pm at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. Mr. Russell will speak on the religious call to care for our common home. For more info, contact Mary Armstrong. Mr. Russell's talk is part of the series of speakers the Dubuque Chapter has been hosting at their regular monthly meetings. Mr. Russell grew up on a family farm in Anita, Iowa and now operates Coyote Run farm south of Des Moines. He earned a B.A. from Loras College in Dubuque, an M.A. from Iowa State University in Rural Sociology, and has worked for many years at the Drake University Agricultural Law Center. TODAY, October 14, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. Silvius Leopold Weiss A reconstruction by Jeffrey Cohan (baroque one-keyed flute) and Oleg Timofeyev (baroque lute) of early 18th-century sonatas by Sylvius Leopold Weiss, the most famous lutenist of the 18th century, for which only an incomplete manuscript remains. Sunday October 21, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. Flute, Viola & Guitar Early 19th-century trios from Beethoven's time with violist Christine Rutledge, University of Iowa professor and early viola specialist, Oleg Timofeyev on early 19thcentury guitar and Jeffrey Cohan on an 8-keyed flute (London, 1820). Our Partner in Education, Prescott School, is looking for some help during their Conferences Book Fair. Volunteers wouldn't necessarily need to stay the entire requested hours. Whatever time you would be willing to be there would be much appreciated. Please contact Principal Vicki Sullivan to let her know when you can be there. Prescott Needs Food Service Help Prescott Elementary is looking for someone to work in the food service program from 11am-1pm each day school is in session. This person would stand at our self-serve cart in the lunchroom and ensure that students are getting a "reimbursable" lunch per federal guidelines. Training provided. If interested, please contact the district's food service department at and ask for Joanne or Jackie and tell them you are interested in the two hour per day job at Prescott. Items can go in the South Hall shopping cart. Verses of Valor: A Salute to Veterans Dubuque Chorale & Children's Choir Saturday, November 3rd at 7:30 p.m. & Saturday, November 4th at 2:00 p.m. St. Luke's Sanctuary In honor of the 100th Anniversary of Armistice Day and the end of World War I, the Dubuque Chorale, its chamber choir Cadenza, and the Dubuque Chorale Children s Choir present their fall concert, Verses of Valor: A Salute to Veterans, with musical settings of poetry that evoke American wars back to the Revolutionary War as well as traditional patriotic pieces. All veterans are especially welcome. A free-will offering will be taken. Handicapped access is available via the alley.
