6 During the summer, our regular nursery staff are on break. Most of the time our Nursery Leader Anezka Lungwitz will be here and she needs one helper. We need two people in order to open up the nursery. We hope to have enough people so that you would only need to help out once a month. If enough people would sign up, you would only need to help out one time. Teenagers can use this for community service hours. Father s Day, June 19th Tool Sunday For over 60 years, Church World Service has worked in partnership with local communities to identify their needs and access the resources they need to build the foundations for a more viable future. Your contribution to CWS for tools will help people in need to acquire the tools, seeds, and water access for survival and stability for all their future generations. St. Luke s Garden Ministry News From Mary Purdy June 10 Purdy Produce Plot Planters, Pickers, and Preparers: The garden has had challenges. The potatoes that did not emerge are a mystery and discouraging. The tomatoes have had a hard knock life withstanding frost, whipping winds and inconsistent growing temperatures. However, the lettuce is lush and green and ready to pick for guests to take home next Saturday night. Five rows of beans look hardy; and the peppers, broccoli, cauliflower, brussel sprouts, and kale are taking off. Since I last communicated, Ken Miller has worked in the garden. Last weekend he, Sue, Alana, and Sam came to the garden to work. They mulched the green beans. Afterwards on the patio, we ate fresh cookies and drank lemonade and ice tea. Chris Purdy spent several hours over the weekend re-tilling, weeding, and laying down landscape fabric. He makes this garden possible. Today I went to Murphy's Gardens to purchase some replacement tomato plants. Lori met me at the door to donate plants including: 55 tomatoes, 9 peppers, and a flat of onions. Ken Miller is coming to work in the garden Saturday morning and hoping some youth from Hope Church will come to help also. It would be wonderful to have other volunteers. We will start about 9am although Ken said he d try to be here earlier. Work to be done: Weed potato rows and attempt replanting. Plant: 55 tomatos, 10+ peppers, cantaloupe, cucumbers, and sugar snap peas. Mulch: lettuce and celery rows. Weed: beet, carrot, and bean rows.

John will coordinate the books we will use and instructions and locations for meeting at St. Mark s on days you will be reading.
