Social time begins at 5:00 p.m. with the picnic beginning at 6:15 p.m. Bring a potluck dish to share. Beverages and tableware will be provided. The picnic will include a send off for Marcia Dubbels moving to Oklahoma and chat with Pastor Chuck. Afterwards there will be a band concert at the band shell nearby with the New Horizons and Americana bands. Bring your own lawn chair or benches are provided at the band shell. St. Luke s & Fountain of Youth Pioneers Summer Picnic July 9th at 11:00am Murphy Park Open Air Pavilion Bring a potluck dish to share, plates/silverware, any games you d like to enjoy - bean bag toss, lawn darts, badminton, Frisbee. The Fountain of Youth will be providing the meat. Water and lemonade provided! Come Join the Fun and Get to Know the Pioneers! Hosted by St. Luke s Council on Ministry and the Fountain of Youth Pioneers program. Pioneers are young people ages years old. The program includes mentoring, employment and contacts to impact the lives of youth with the goal of eradicating generational poverty. St. Mark Youth Enrichment Center Needs Readers Volunteer Readers are needed to read to groups of children for 15 minute reading times in the mornings and afternoons this summer at the St. Mark Youth Enrichment Center and the Boys and Girls Club facilities as part of the St. Mark Youth Summer Reading Program to help the children of our downtown community keep up and improve their reading ability. Volunteer by contacting Danielle Willis, Program Director at St. Mark Youth Enrichment Center: ext. 110 dwillis@stmarkyouthenrichment.org She will coordinate times and places for you to participate in this cooperative project. Lectionary Bible Study Thursdays at 10 a.m. Meet with Pastor Chuck in the Parlor to talk about scriptures for the upcoming Sunday.

6 Lunch for Habitat for Humanity Build Saturday Aug 5th The exterior structure of the current Habitat for Humanity build was completed in a blitz home build by about 35 Habitat volunteers from 8 states at 2975 Lenox Street during the week of June Community volunteers will complete the inside of the house in July and August with home completion scheduled for mid August. As a covenant partner with Dubuque/Jackson County Habitat for Humanity, St. Luke s has the opportunity to provide a lunch for 16 volunteers, serving around 11am on Saturday August 5. Volunteers are invited to assist with serving and/or providing a salad, fruit, dessert and entrée item OR donations $$ for meat for sandwiches. Edible Landscaping Edible landscaping is the practice of incorporating plants which bear fruits, vegetables or nuts into the home landscape. It is another opportunity to capitalize growing space, especially in urban areas, to produce food and to further local food production, either for the growers household or for donation sites. Many edible plants have attractive foliage and fruits and add to the color of a landscape. It is not too late to add some edibles to your landscape. Lettuce is an easy way to start and there are many varieties of lettuce that are colorful. They grow well in pots too. Plant some now and be ready for BLTs.
