Maybe it s because winter is finally loosening its brutal hold on us and spring is slowly unfolding in front of our eyes. May is almost here, the sun is warming up the earth and the green in coming back. In fact, the green in church will be coming back!! BUT, before that happens, we have our Mother s Day Brunch that is made even more wonderful by the fact that our own Bishop Bishop Dede Duncan Probe will be celebrating Eucharist with us that morning, followed by a chance to meet and chat with her after the service. SO EXCITING!! So plan on joining us that morning won t you!! The next Family Movie Night will be May 16 th with the movie to be: hmmmm, anyone want to help me make this choice? Let me know!! Call 4321 or the help would be appreciated. We have popcorn from our own popcorn maker that really is awesome, why not join us we would love to see you. The next important date coming up on the calendar is Pentecost May 20th Do not take to heart all the things that people say, lest you hear your servant cursing you. Your heart knows that many times you yourself have cursed others. Ecclesiastes 7:21-22 The gift of the Holy Spirit is given to God s people fifty days following the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. This third great feast of the year is traditionally seen as the birth day of the Christian church. St. Marks, Columbus, Ohio Isn t that a wonderful explanation of Pentecost? It caught my eye and I just had to share it with you. Don t forget to wear RED that Sunday. The church will be decorated in red that day also so festive and beautiful. A sight that one should not miss!! Before you know it Oz Fest will be on us! We need volunteers to help set up and take down tents, help with the food tent, and parking. Contact Pat Davis or Robin Weisbrod for more information The mission of Bill's Brigade is to support families who are in crisis by making their day to day needs easier. Crisis can be defined in a myriad of ways, but our agency is focused on supporting families in Central New York (specifically Madison and Onondaga counties) when everything is falling apart. Whether it's the loss of a loved one and the family that s left navigating their way through grief, a family member amid medical treatment from cancer or another devastating disease, or other traumatic events--bill's Brigade aims to alleviate the day to day tasks of running and maintaining a household, so the family can concentrate solely on the crisis at hand. Our team of volunteers will provide the following services. 1. Meal preparation and coordination to avoid duplication and overload of food. We organize a meal preparation and delivery system from our volunteers. A coordination of meals will avoid duplication of food offerings and overload of food on any given day/week. 2. Errands and/or grocery shopping. We organize the dates and physically shop for, deliver, and put away groceries for the families and/or other local errands as requested. 3. Home Services: We provide basic house cleaning and organizational services within the home on an as needed basis. 4. Small Home Repairs: We identify professionals in the carpentry/construction industry to provide services to alleviate a "punch list" of household items to complete. Small home repairs may include fixing a leaking sink, repairing holes in the wall, replacing appliances, snow removal, lawn mowing, etc Our goal is to lovingly respect the families wishes while alleviating some of their day to day needs, to allow them a breather during their most challenging moment. Also coming in June is Dads and Grads Sunday, we will be having Strawberry Shortcake for Coffee Hour in honor of our Dad s. If there are any Grads we need to be celebrating, please let Sue Gerling (sbg1982@aol.com) know so we can, well, celebrate them! Let me close my article with the following words from the book, Think Positive Thoughts Every Day : May You Always Have Positive Thoughts May every day of your life bring you fresh hopes for tomorrow because hope gives all of us our reason for trying. May each new day bring a feeling of excitement, joy, and a wonderful sense of expectation. Expect the best, and you ll get it. May you find peace in simple things, because those are the ones that will always be there. 6 PAGE 6 Pride in St. Paul s A few facts about Saint Paul: His feast day is June 29th when he is honored with Saint Peter. He was imprisoned for two years after preaching in Rome. St. Paul is the patron saint of missionaries, evangelists, writers, journalists, authors, public workers, rope and saddle makers. Seven books of the New Testament are undisputed as having been written by him. Put on then, as God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. Colossians 3:12-14 He founded several churches in Asia Minor and Europe. He was born in Turkey and died in Rome when he was in his 60s. There is no longer Jew or Greek, there is no longer slave or free, there is no longer male and female; for all of you are one in Christ Jesus. - Paul the Apostle How may Episcopalians does it take to change a light bulb? 7 PAGE 7 Outside These Walls The Bishop s Ball Dancing through the Decades June 2, 7:00 pm June 3, 12:00 pm The Bishop s Ball is a FREE semi-formal dance for youth in grades Dress to represent your favorite decade! Dancing kicks off at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday night, June 2nd at St. James Episcopal Church, 96 East Genesee Street, Skaneateles. Pick-up at the end of the dance, 10:00 p.m. or stay overnight in the church for more fun and fellowship with pick-up at noon Sunday following the 10:45 a.m. worship service. Ministry Fair -May 9th Holiday Inn, Liverpool Dr. Catherine Meeks, Executive Director of the Absalom Jones Episcopal Center for Racial Healing will be the keynote speaker. A large variety of workshops designed to renew, refresh and enliven you and your ministries. Details and registration information will be distributed in January. Please mark your calendar and your parish calendar for this day of learning and fellowship! We hope to see you there! Battle of the Church Choirs May 19th, 2:00 pm 6:00 pm The Church of Sts. Peter & John in Auburn invites all diocesan church choirs, singers & ensembles to the first Battle of the Church Choirs. Win prizes for your church s outreach programs all participants win one of three levels of prize money. Categories include large choirs, small choirs, solos, duets, youth choirs, gospel choirs and praise bands; up to two ensembles may register per parish. Learning Communities: Learn by Doing: Using Action Learning to Discover God s Leading June 2nd This second training for Learning Communities Initiative participants will help participants use action learning to deepen their exploration of what they think God might be up to. The idea is to help participants behave their way into new thinking, rather than only trying to think their way into new behaviors.
