1 St. Paul s Episcopal Church Chittenango, New York The Good News Volume 12 Issue 6 Special Events August 14th Worship Service at The Grand at 2:30 PM August 17th-20th Clothing/Backpack Giveaway September 3rd Bottle and Can Drive September 10th Tag Sale September 11th School Snack Collection November 12th Holiday Bazaar November 20th Thanksgiving Service at St. Pat s Church at 7 PM I Can do All things through Jesus Christ who strengthens me. Philippians 4:13 August 2016 A Historic Diocesan Decision This is an exciting time in the Diocese of Central New York, August 6th, Judy Montgomery and I will represent St. Paul s in the vote for the next Bishop. Sue Gerling and Judy Olmsted, our alternates and Father Grover will be going with us to the Special Convention. I remember when David was here, and we were deciding who to vote for, that was 11 years ago now. What I don t remember, was the feeling of excitement. The Search Committee and Transition Team have done an outstanding job, disseminating information and keeping us all in the loop. We, in turn, have tried hard to keep Parish members who are not plugged in via computer, up to date. Hopefully, we have done a good job. Judy, Sue, Judy and I all agree, we cannot lose, no matter how the vote turns out. We have been presented with 5 wonderful candidates. Hopefully, that Sunday, August 7th, we can present to the Parish, the name of the new Bishop. I cannot believe that we are staring at August, it just doesn t seem possible. Soon, the Tag Sale will be here, then, before you know it, the Bazaar, then Thanksgiving and all too soon Christmas. Time is flying by, and sometimes it seems hard to keep up with it. We will be having Father Leon Mozeliak joining us for two Sunday s in August and two Sunday s in September. This means we will have Holy Communion for both months on all the Sunday s. Well almost all Sunday s, Father Charles is going to fill in for Rev. Jeanne at St. Peter s in Cazenovia on August 21st so that Sunday, we will have Morning Prayer. In the meantime, the Vestry wishes to thank Shelly Banner for her suggestions to us. She has been a wonderful support to us, as our Transitional Consultant. Speaking of the Tag Sale, there is a slight change to our setup. This year, we are opening the Parish Hall, to Vendor s that need an inside spot. So, if anyone from St. Paul s wants a table inside, let Robin know ASAP, so we can hold that spot for you. For some reason, I have really hit writer s block for this month s opening letter. I have found though, that sometimes you find inspiration in the strangest places. I was reading an article in the Oneida Daily Dispatch on the Religion page, written by Catherine Galasso-Vigorito. The title is what caught my eye, As you bless others, blessings will come to you. She started the article out with a parable by an unknown author that a reader had OUR MISSION STATEMEN T (Continued on Page 5) St. Paul s Episcopal Church in Chittenango, New York exists to restore all people to unity with each other and with God in Jesus Christ.

5 Start VOLUME saving 12 your ISSUE Bottles 6 and Cans NOW!!! THE GOOD NEWS PAGE 5 Robin s Message Continued sent her. It was about a Farmer who always entered his corn in the State Fair and every year won. A reporter covering the event interviewed the farmer. One of the questions was how he grew such beautiful corn and the farmer explained that he shared his seeds with his neighbors. The reporter, taken aback, asked why he would do such a thing, after all, they were in competition. The farmer went on to explain that the wind picks up the pollen from the corn and spreads it to all the other fields. Since this is cross pollination, if the farmer gave the neighboring farms seeds of lesser value, the quality of his corn would degrade. So to keep his corn superior, he had to make sure his neighbors was also superior. I am sure many of us can think of people who have helped us in this journey of life, either as a mentor or support system. Aren t you glad they shared their blessings with you? And I am certain; they would say that they were paid in kind, by blessings coming back to them. I know I have. She ended her article with a quote from missionary Stephen Grellet ( ): I expect to pass throughout this world but once. Any good thing therefore, that I can do or any kindness I can show to any fellow human being let me do it now. Let me not defer nor neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again. Amen. Robin Weisbrod Sr. Warden Start saving your Bottles and Cans NOW!!! We will be having a Bottle and Can Drive later this Summer, so save now. Don't have a place to store them? No problem!! Contact Tania Mousaw at tmousaw@verizon.net or call her at home (315) and she will arrange pickup!! Did You Know? Our Church is a Poké Stop Did you know that our church is a Poke stop? Now, I can see heads shaking, some might even scratch their heads going PokeWHO?? Perhaps some of you remember the Pokeman card craze back in the 90 s. It was a game designed for Game Boys and trading cards, as well as a TV show were spawned from the game. Fast forward 15 years or so, and PokemanGo was developed as an April Fools Day collaboration with Google (a multinational technology company). It was touted as a free game for your phone, where you capture different characters in the virtual world. Okay, so WHAT does that have to do with us? Apparently, the designers of this game, set up different sites to be placed as spots that you can capture these creatures, and we are one of those spots!! I love it! Free advertising! How will this affect us? Not a clue. Though we may (or may not) notice people wandering around the building with their phones out. If we do, don t chase them away, don t call the police.show them how welcoming we are, be friendly, smile a knowing smile and say, Ahhh, PokemanGo, right? They will think we are cool (which we are) and awesome (which we are). For quick updates and inspiring articles! Learn what s going on in our community, diocese, and throughout the world!
