Dr. Chad Cooke will bring the message on Sunday. Dr. Cooke is the Associate Pastor at Corner Stone Baptist Church and Student Life Director at High Point Christian Academy. 2 The Little Children Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. And he took the children in his arms, placed his hands on them and blessed them. (Mark 10:14, 16) Scripture records few instances of Jesus interacting with children, but in each one we see Jesus treat the children with kindness and love, therefore showing how much He values them. Probably the most well-known account of Jesus interacting with children is found in Mark 10: People were bringing little children to Jesus for him to place his hands on them, but the disciples rebuked them. When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them, Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.... And he took the children in his arms, placed his hands on them and blessed them (verses 13 14, 16). Here Jesus not only welcomes the children into His presence, but also blesses each one individually. The Bible records that many parents, knowing Jesus love for children and His ability to perform miracles, brought their ailing children to Jesus to be healed. These healings included curing diseases (John 4:46 52) and casting out demons (Mark 7:24 30; 9:14 27). Jesus also raised at least one child from the dead, as related in the story of Jairus daughter (Luke 8:40 56). Over the course of His ministry, Jesus often presented children as an example of the type of faith adults are to have. When Jesus blessed the children, He told His disciples, Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it (Mark 10:15). In another instance, when the disciples were fighting about who would be the greatest in God s Kingdom, Jesus brought a child to stand in their midst. He then chided His disciples: Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven (Matthew 18:2 4). According to Jesus, the qualities of children that are worthy of emulation are humility and simple acceptance. This month we celebrate an incredible accomplishment at Kingswood of providing 40 years of a non-profit, Christian Preschool in our community. Since 1976, the Preschool has evolved to a current record enrollment of 80 children! It has been an integral part of the outreach ministry of our church. Our mission is solely to nurture hearts for God and minds for learning. In the early years, we were called a playschool, but eventually we became a Christian Preschool incorporating strong Christian teaching into our state-approved curriculum for children age 2 through K-Readiness. The children, in addition to Christian-based activities, are taught music, art, hands-on opportunities for exploration and academic learning, and activities to help children succeed socially. They also have story time and outside play during their time here. Our quality teachers are experienced and trained in Early Childhood Education and we have a great staff, with very low turnover. They are a critical part of our success and ought to be commended for their commitment. I want to give personal thanks to Carolyn Cooke, Chairperson of the Preschool Committee, and LuAnn Winfrey, Director of Preschool, for their tireless love and devotion for these kids. Jesus loved the little children and these two individuals are truly following in His likeness. All of us should be very proud of them. It is an honor to be the minister of a church that believes in the high endeavor of caring for the little children God has entrusted to us. 5 The United Methodist Women is the largest denominational faith organization for women with approximately 800,000 members who desire to grow as disciples of Jesus Christ in community with other women and advocate on behalf of women, children and youth around the world. UMW circles, which are groups within the local church, provide a way for women to meet regularly in smaller groups to worship, study and fellowship with each other. Kingswood s two circles meet once a month. Our circles have similar tasks and goals, but are each unique in the way they fellowship and in the way they fulfill the UMW purpose. We will come together for special events and projects. Our current project is collecting BINGO prizes for the Winston-Salem SECU House. Prizes should be in the $1-5 range and can also include gift cards to McDonald s. A box will remain in the narthex for the next two Sundays for your donations. Our morning circle meets the 4 th Monday of every month. The circle leader is Glenda Hill. The evening circle meets the 3 rd Thursday of every month. The circle leader is Robin Boger. We hope you will join us at one of our UMW circle meetings. News from Yadkin Valley District Salem UMC in Mount Airy is sponsoring a golf tournament on Saturday, May 13, at Pine Ridge Golf Course. The proceeds are to help Girl Scout Troop with their trip to Savannah, Georgia. See attached flyer. Chrysalis Counseling and Consultation Center is offering their Lunch and Learn series on Thursday, May 25, 9:30 a.m. 1:30 p.m., at Centenary UMC in Greensboro. The focus of this month s event is transitioning to new pastoral appointments. See attached flyer. Youth Meals please consider volunteering to provide a meal for the Sunday evening youth gatherings. Contact LuAnn or Pastor Jeff and we ll put you on the schedule. Consider teaming up with another person to make it a little easier. It s a great way to show your support for our Youth. Youth Gathering There will NOT be a Youth meeting this Sunday, May 7 or next Sunday, May 10.

Bible Study Pastor Jeff teaches The Parables of Jesus on Tuesdays (with the exception of the first Tuesday of each month) at 6:30 pm. Come and grow with us.
