Please contribute food according to your last name: A-F: Desserts G-O: Main Dish P-Z: Salads Please plan to bring a friend for a MISSIONFEST full of surprises! अलव Bethany Presbyterian Women OCTOBER OUT-TO-LUNCH: Fall is here and time to mark your calendars for the Tuesday, October 14th lunch at Pumpkin Ridge, the perfect fall lunch spot good food and a lovely place to view the changes of the season. Invite your friends and neighbors and celebrate the beauty of fall everyone is welcome. Good grief the 14th is a week from Tuesday! Dr. Marian Boehr went to medical school at a time when women were not usually allowed but she knew that with God all things are possible. Her following 40+ years are now part of history! Dr. Boehr was a missionary in India for thirty eight years. She served in various capacities at the Baptist Christian Hospital in Nellore, South India, ranging from nursing instructor and surgeon to medical director. In 1999, a Telugu newspaper named Dr. Marian Boehr, Person of the Century in South India. We hope you ll join our MissionFest Celebration! You will hear wonderful stories of God s miraculous work performed through the small hands of a female surgeon whose courageous faith in Jesus Christ took her to the far corners of the world. Following the worship service, WHEN: Tuesday, October 14th at 11:30am WHERE: Pumpkin Ridge NW Old Pumpkin Ridge Road / North Plains, OR Reservations: Sign the list on the Sign-up Central table in Fellowship Hall or call/ Molly Hall. NEXT SUNDAY, OCTOBER 12th is the deadline for reservations. TARDY TABLECLOTHS & BLUE COFFEE CARAFES: Have the white tablecloths and the blue coffee carafes joined forces and run away? If you know of their whereabouts, please assist in bringing them back to their Fellowship Hall home. They are greatly missed. The tablecloths belong in the storage room and the carafes in the cupboard near the coffee machine.

5 IMPORTANT KITCHEN CLEANUP EXPECTATIONS: When you use or are helping in the kitchen please take a few minutes to read Coffee Machine Tips and General Instructions on the bulletin board as you enter. These are things that will help all of us keep the Fellowship Hall Kitchen looking new and beautiful. Also, when you signup to host coffee hour after worship, Bruce will you a reminder during the week prior and attach a document called Helpful Hints for Fellowship Time After Worship. Take time to go over that. We hope this will be helpful and make the morning go smoothly for Sunday Coffee Hour volunteers. OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD: November is only about a month away, and now is the time to buy school supplies while they are on sale for Operation Christmas Child Shoeboxes. Shoeboxes and instructions on filling them will be in the narthex and Fireside Room late this month or early in November. Children across the country and around the world who receive these boxes are thrilled. The contents of those boxes are treasures, which brings smiles to their faces, joy to their hearts and the knowledge that others care about them. FOOD BANK: The October food item is canned meats (tuna, chicken etc.). The monthly food items are suggestions to give you some idea of what is needed; it is not intended to limit your donations to just those items. Please check the expiration dates on food that you donate. Food that is past the expiration date or very close to expiration will have to be thrown away. If you would rather donate cash put it in an envelope marked Food Bank or make a check payable to the Oregon Food Bank and put it in the offering plate. Shipmates Set Sail October 19 Have your boarding passes ready in two weeks to sail away for lunch in Europe! Bruce Fiebach will give a presentation of his choir s mission trip to France, Belgium, and The Netherlands following the Coffee/Fellowship time. Bruce joined the Lake Grove Presbyterian Church choir 2 years ago, and will be sharing his experiences of singing in the cathedrals of Europe and the American Cemetery in Normandy, France. You ll enjoy hearing how the missionary choir heeded God s call to spread his Word through choral music. As always, bring your own lunch...dessert and beverage will be provided. MOPS MOPS stands for Mothers Of Pre-Schoolers, and is a Christian-based fellowship and study group for mothers with young children. Outreach sponsors this program which began Friday, October 3 and the group will meet on the 1st and 3rd Fridays of each month in the Activity Center. WE NEED VOLUNTEERS! We need an older, experienced mom to review the 20-minute DVD provided by the national organization and lead the discussion (using their materials), a registrar, a kitchen helper, and two child care workers in the pre-school rooms upstairs. The women will share food and coffee, watch and discuss the weekly DVD, and allow time for the mothers to chat in a support-group environment. If you can assist with this important program for Bethany, please contact Maryanne Weed. If you do not want to make the biweekly commitment, but can substitute service, we want you, too. Outreach to our Community Your Outreach Team is busy planning some events in our community for this Fall. Please consider acting as Jesus' hands in the following opportunities: Saturday, Oct 11: We will make knitted / crocheted prayer shawls for people who can no longer attend worship with us, and we will make some baby quilts for the Mountaindale Women's Shelter to take to our Christmas party with them. We will be working on these from 9 am to about noon in Fellowship Hall. Anyone is welcome, and we can use volunteers of any skill level. Saturday, October 18: On Saturday, October 18, we will reach out to our neighbors at Springville School and help with Fall cleanup of the grounds. We need a chairperson for this event, and sign-up sheets for volunteers are now available at Sign-Up Central. Bring gloves, rakes, brooms, and a smile!

6 Sunday, Nov. 2: Our own organist Dr. Susan Chan, and her friend, Sarah Kwak, concertmaster for the Oregon Symphony, will play an afternoon recital for us. Please plan to attend this wonderful musical program and bring some friends. Sunday, Nov. 30: Outreach Team will fix the dinner for Glisan Street Transition House on November 30 (Thanksgiving weekend). We are looking for a few good cooks and servers. Please sign up at Sign-Up Central. Friday and Saturday, Dec 5-6: We will again be making cookies for soldiers and seniors. We need lots of bakers and packers for this fun holiday event. Sign-up sheets will be posted in November. Christmas: We will continue the tradition of taking a holiday party to the Mountaindale Women's Shelter with presents, dinner, games, and a reading of the Christmas story. Bethany Book Club Bethany Book Club meets on the third Monday of every month. For more information about the book club or directions to the meeting location, please contact Janet Smith at October Book Selection: Killing Jesus by Bill O'Reilly and Martin Dugard Peacemaking Offering "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God." - Matthew 5:9 The Peacemaking Offering received on World Communion Sunday, today, helps fund the Presbyterian peacemaking programs in presbyteries and synods throughout the world. Current Fall CE Highlights Fall Sermon Series: Paul s letter to the Galatians Video Series: If You Want to Walk on Water, You d Better Get Out of the Boat! Rotation Model Sunday School: In a rotational setting, the same Bible story or theme is taught for several weeks. Each week, classes rotate to a different station: Art, Drama, Music, Games, Puppets, Storytelling, and even Bible story videos in their own movie theater. The story remains the same, but children encounter it in different ways in each station. Repetition is an important part of the rotation approach.
