Please plan to bring a friend for a MISSIONFEST full of surprises! अलव Dr. Marian Boehr attended medical school at a time when women were not usually allowed but she knew that with God all things are possible. Her following 40+ years are now part of history! Dr. Boehr was a missionary in India for thirty eight years. She served in various capacities at the Baptist Christian Hospital in Nellore, South India, ranging from nursing instructor and surgeon to medical director. In 1999, a Telugu newspaper named Dr. Marian Boehr, Person of the Century in South India. Stay after worship and join our Missionfest Celebration Potluck! We will have Be Part of the Children s Worship Service Find out more about volunteering for Children s Church which occurs each Sunday morning during the worship service. Bethany Presbyterian Women OCTOBER OUT-TO-LUNCH: Fall is here it s your last chance to sign up and join us for lunch at Pumpkin Ridge, the perfect fall lunch spot good food and a lovely spot to view the changes of the season. 5 Reservations: TODAY!! is the deadline for reservations. Sign the list on the Sign-up Central table in Fellowship Hall or call or Molly Hall. CARPOOL: If you would like a ride or drive some ladies to Pumpkin Ridge, be in the church parking lot on the corner of Kaiser and Springville by 11:00am. KITCHEN USE: Please check the kitchen after using it to be sure everything is put away and the counters are clean. The countertop design makes it hard to see that it needs to be wiped and needs to be given the touch test to be sure they are not left sticky. TARDY TABLECLOTHS & BLUE COFFEE CARAFES: Have the white tablecloths and the blue coffee carafes joined forces and run away? If you know of their whereabouts, please assist in bringing them back to their Fellowship Hall home. They are greatly missed. The tablecloths belong in the storage room and the carafes in the cupboard near the coffee machine. IMPORTANT KITCHEN CLEANUP EXPECTATIONS: When you use or are helping in the kitchen please take a few minutes to read Coffee Machine Tips and General Instructions on the bulletin board as you enter. These are things that will help all of us keep the Fellowship Hall Kitchen looking new and beautiful. Also when you sign-up for coffee after worship Bruce will attach Helpful Hints for Fellowship Time After Worship to your reminder that you will receive during the week before the Sunday you will be serving. We hope this will be helpful and make the morning go smoothly for Sunday Coffee Hour volunteers. OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD: November is less than a month away, and now is the time to buy school supplies while they are on sale for Operation Christmas Child Shoeboxes. Shoeboxes and instructions on filling them will be in the narthex and Fireside Room late this month or early in November. Children across the country and around the world who receive these boxes are thrilled. The contents of those boxes are treasures, which brings smiles to their faces, joy to their hearts and the knowledge that there are others who care about them. FOOD BANK: The October food item is canned meats (tuna, chicken etc.). The monthly food items are suggestions to give you some idea of what is needed; it is not intended to limit your donations to just those items. Please check the expiration dates on food that you donate. Food that is past the expiration date or very close to expiration will have to be thrown away. If you would rather donate cash put it in an envelope marked Food Bank or make a check payable to the Oregon Food Bank and put it in the offering plate. Last Thursday 68 pounds of food and $6 were delivered to the Food Bank. Every pound of food and every dollar donated helps a family and says that others care about them and are willing to help. THANK YOU! Shipmates Set Sail October 19 Have your boarding passes ready in hand to sail away for lunch in Europe! Bruce Fiebach will give a presentation of his choir s mission trip to France, Belgium, and The Netherlands following the Coffee/Fellowship time. Bruce joined the Lake Grove Presbyterian Church choir 2 years ago, and will be sharing his experiences of singing in the cathedrals of Europe and the American Cemetery in Normandy, France. You ll enjoy hearing how the missionary choir heeded God s call to spread His Word through choral music. As always, bring your own lunch...dessert and beverage will be provided. There will be a short business meeting. All ashore who s going ashore! Frank Johnson will also be on hand to collect donations for the family in need this quarter. So bring the items you signed up for and hand them off to Frank. Contact Hugh Taylor at if you have questions. MOPS MOPS is meeting in the CE Building, Room 1. Our next meeting will be at 9am on Friday, October 17th. Outreach to our Community Your Outreach Team is busy planning some events in our community for this Fall. Please consider

6 acting as Jesus' hands in the following opportunities: Saturday, October 18: Next Saturday, October 18, we will reach out to our neighbors at Springville School and help with Fall clean-up of the grounds. We need a chairperson for this event, and sign-up sheets for volunteers are now available at Sign-Up Central. Bring gloves, rakes, brooms, and a smile! Sunday, Nov. 2, 2pm: Our own organist Dr. Susan Chan, and her friend, Sarah Kwak, concertmaster for the Oregon Symphony, will play an afternoon recital for us. Please plan to attend this wonderful musical program and bring some friends. Sunday, Nov. 9: This is the deadline to bring in coats for the Mooberry School coat drive sponsored by the Berkey family. Coats for children ages K-6th grade will be gladly accepted and gratefully distributed to kids that need them. Bethany will provide a box in the Fireside Room for coat delivery beginning on October 19. Sunday, Nov. 30: Outreach Team will fix the dinner for Glisan Street Transition House on November 30 (Thanksgiving weekend). We are looking for a few good cooks and servers. Please sign up at Sign-Up Central. Friday and Saturday, Dec 5-6: We will again be making cookies for soldiers and seniors. We need lots of bakers and packers for this fun holiday event. Sign-up sheets will be posted in November. Christmas: We will continue the tradition of taking a holiday party to the Women's Shelter with presents, dinner, games, and a reading of the Christmas story. Rotation Model Sunday School: In a rotational setting, the same Bible story or theme is taught for several weeks. Each week, classes rotate to a different station: Art, Drama, Music, Games, Puppets, Storytelling, and even Bible story videos in their own movie theater. The story remains the same, but children encounter it in different ways at each station. Repetition is an important part of the rotation approach. ROTATION SUNDAY SCHOOL, OCT. 19th, 9 a.m. Calling all kids ages kindergarten through 5th grades! Please join us for Godly Discovery in room 3 of the C.E. Building. After reviewing Paul s amazing adventures from the Book of Acts, we will begin our scripture memorization ice cream cone. When it s as tall as Goliath, we will have an ice cream party! Apostle Paul, shipwrecked Bethany Book Club Bethany Book Club meets on the third Monday of every month. The next meeting is Oct. 20 at 7pm.
