4 ANNOUNCEMENTS Welcome to Bethany We are glad that you joined us for worship this morning. Whether you are looking for a church home or are with us as a visitor, we welcome you. Please ask an usher for a welcome packet that will let you know more about our mission and regular activities. Fellowship Hour Host: Susan Gillespie Flowers: provided by the Moe family in memory of Bob Moe Bethany Presbyterian Women SATURDAY EVENT: Sign-up this Sunday for the SPRING GATHERING/DAY Of COMFORT (a different kind of Retreat) 9:30a-1:00p We will gather for continental breakfast, followed by experiences in flower arranging with Alana Mapes, watercolor painting with Linda Nye, a dessert demonstration and recipe by Lois Lesser followed by lunch. There will also be an inspirational message by Kim Gaston, a video and time to visit with friends and get to know others that you may see only briefly on Sundays. When: Saturday, April 26th 9:30-1:00 Where: Fellowship Hall Cost: Free Will Offering Reservations: Signup at Signup Central today or call at Molly by April 20th, Easter Sunday. Bring your friends and neighbors for a day of retreat, fun, and fellowship. FOOD BANK: Recently, 65 pounds of food and $20 were delivered to Food Bank, representing one month s generous donations by Bethany. Thank you for helping your Washington County neighbors through these difficult times. The April item is cereal (unfrosted). The monthly food items are suggestions to give you some idea of what is needed; it is not intended to limit what you donate to just those items. Please check the expiration dates on food that you donate. Food that is past the expiration date or very close to expiring will have to be thrown away. If you would rather donate cash, please put it in an envelope marked Food Bank; or make a check payable to the Oregon Food Bank and place it in the offering plate. God & Family Award Presentation The following Cub Scouts completed the 7-week "God & Family" program: Ben Johnson, Logan Gillespie, and Andy Li. The theme was "Make a Pizza". The six steps for making a pizza were compared to God's plan for strengthening families. During the class, the boys made a "hands on" model. Gail Hamilton led the boys in their pizza making journey. Bench Dedication Today we dedicate the new bench recently installed in the west parking lot. You ve no doubt noticed this beautiful and sturdy addition to the campus installed for those waiting for rides at the turnaround. It was donated by Eagle Scout David Reichle who designed, built and installed the bench as a gift to Bethany. The material for the bench was donated by Parr Lumber and Bethany donated the cost of the stain to finish and weatherproof it, but David did all the work! This was David s Eagle Scout project. Thank you David!
5 Order Your Easter Pastries It is almost upon us Easter and the annual Easter Breakfast and Roll Bake! On the back page of today s bulletin you will find the order form for pastries. We will be baking these on Saturday, April 19, the day before Easter for you to pick up on Easter morning and take to your party or dinner! These all freeze GREAT and can be enjoyed for months to come. All profits will go towards two ministries this year. Half will go to our continued support of the Hearts and Hands Mission in Kunming, China. Hearts and Hands is the mission that trains people in the deaf community for jobs, teaches them Mandarin sign language and outreaches to them through Christ. It is a thriving and growing mission. The other half of these funds will go to help provide scholarships for youth to attend Family Camp in September. We want to include ALL our Bethany youth on this wonderful weekend and these funds will help make that happen! Here is the selection of pastries you may order: Almond Crescent Rolls - light fluffy sweet rolls bursting with an almond butter filling and topped with almond glaze; Blue Ribbon Cinnamon Rolls - as the name indicates they have won many a blue ribbon at County and State fairs...are either frosted or caramel gooey nuts or no nuts, plain or raisin; Cheese Swirl Rolls - are a soft white dough that is rolled out Cinnamon roll-style and filled with a medley of cheeses, then baked and glazed with a drizzle of light butter; Savory Herb Rolls - light rolls flavored with herbs and a hint of garlic. Just fill out the order form on the back of today s bulletin and give it to Alana Mapes or Jody Jones along with your payment. The orders will be available for you to pick up in freezer bags on Easter morning. ALL the proceeds go to help these two very worthy missions in Yunnan, China. Please sign up now...or call us for more info! Easter Breakfast Please plan to attend our Easter breakfast next Sunday with your family and enjoy our fresh baked rolls, egg casseroles, fruit, juice and coffee. This annual tradition will be held downstairs in the Activity Center from 8:45am (or whenever the Sunrise Service ends in the Sanctuary) until 9:45am. We would love to have you attend. The cost will be a donation to two recipients this year: the Hearts and Hands Mission in China, and a Youth Fund to help pay for Family Camp in September. Bring the crowd and enjoy! Maundy Thursday Service - April 17th 7pm Be sure to attend this Holy Week Event. On the night of His betrayal, Jesus shared His last Passover meal with His disciples, during which He gave us the new commandment (mandate; maundy) to love one another as I have loved you. (John 13:34) We hope you will join us Thursday at 7pm in the Bethany Presbyterian sanctuary for this Holy Week worship service; a biblically-based reenactment of the Last Supper followed by Holy Communion. Do this in remembrance of me. (Luke 22:19) One Great Hour of Sharing Our One Great Hour of Sharing gifts support ministries of disaster response, refugee assistance, resettlement, and community development that help people find safe refuge, start new lives and work together to strengthen their families and communities. The Presbyterian Hunger Program receives 36 percent of undesignated gifts, while Self-Development of People and Presbyterian Disaster Assistance each receives 32 percent.
6 This year s One Great Hour of Sharing Offering will be collected today and next Sunday. Please use the special envelopes available and place it in the collection plate. Thank you for your faithful giving. Youth Update This is the final week of the youth-sponsored clothing drive for the Transition Center Project. They are collecting new and used men's clothing of all sizes; however, they have a particular need for larger sizes (XL-XXXL). New undergarments would also be appreciated. A wicker trunk to hold your donated items is available in the Fireside Room. Thanks for your continued support! The youth is also in need of some items for our Sonrise service if anyone has the following to lend us: A draw string purse A few large spike type nails A large easily seen but lift-able stone a small silver pitcher Upcoming youth events - On April 17th we will meet in the church parking lot at 5:30pm. We will go out to get frozen yogurt before returning to the church for the 7pm Maundy Thursday service. As always, youth in 6th grade and up are welcome to join us for any youth event. Please RSVP to Amanda and Loren Jones and feel free to contact them with any questions. Do you like to cook??? Come and help us on Saturday April 19th as we prepare for our Easter breakfast on April 20th. We will be baking rolls, making egg casseroles, prepping fruit and setting tables. Many hands make light work! We will begin at 7:00 AM, so please let Alana Mapes or Jody Jones if you can come and join us, and if so what time you are available. We will be baking until about 4p. We have jobs for all ages 8 to 98! Prayer Vigil Sign-up in the Narthex Look for the sign-up sheet for the Good Friday Prayer Vigil located in the narthex. Prayer slots run all day in 30 minute increments. There will be lists of prayer needs available to help you focus during your prayer time if you wish.
