1 Volume 10, Issue 34 August 22, 2018 Who We Are Liberty Road Faith Fellowship is a Multi-denominational gathering of Christians who enjoy traditional worship services. Where to Find Us We worship at 2734 Liberty Road. You can find us on the web at We Gather for Fellowship Coffee/Donut Fellowship Time: 9:00-10:30 a.m. in room 6 Drink it up! Dump your Cup! Thank you for helping us keep our church clean and tidy by keeping all the food and beverages in the Hospitality room (room #6) on Sunday mornings. A Word From the Pastor By Rev. Lisa Wood This Sunday we will observe the ordinance of baptism. Ella Chambers is the first person to be baptized in this body of Christ that we call Liberty Road Faith Fellowship. I hope you will be present to share in this event that is Ella s living witness to her faith in Jesus Christ. It has become my practice to present a handkerchief to baptismal candidates on behalf of the community of faith. Ella s will have her initials and the date of her baptism, monogrammed in light blue. It will be her keepsake that, if she chooses, she can incorporate into her wedding bouquet as a reminder of her Christian heritage. Ella has claimed us as her church! I invite you to write a card to her sometime this week and bring it with you this Sunday. You may want to share with her something about your own faith experience; you may want to write a personal note of encouragement or affirmation; you may choose to share a favorite verse and tell her why it is important to you. I will have a basket on the table in the lobby where you may leave your message and we will present these to her as a reminder of her church s love and support as she begins her faith journey. Use this opportunity to take fifteen minutes out of the 168 hours you have this week and bless this child who has yielded herself to God s call on her life. As the Body of Christ led by the Holy Spirit, we are charged with the holy privilege of discipling each other. Some call it being priests to each other; I call it ministry. It is one way we offer ourselves in service

The Backs have one daughter, Keli, and 3 granddaughters, Eden and Talia, 6-year-old twins and Greta, who will soon be 11. Glenda is proud to be a PK. Her parents raised 11 children, 9 of whom are still living, and because of their service and faith in God, all the kids accepted Christ at an early age. Glenda is so grateful for the legacy her parents left them. She strives daily to honor God and her parent s legacy. Glenda s Mom taught her how to be a Mom. Some of the best lessons were taught in the kitchen as she was the greatest cook Glenda ever knew. Glenda says that today she still smiles and remembers her Mom when she makes some of the country dishes that her mom taught her. Glenda s Dad, Robert L. Fugate, was also her Pastor and mentor for the first 44 years of her life before he and her mother went to their heavenly home in He taught her at an early age the golden rule to do unto

Please send them by Adventures, Monsters, and Heroes, Oh My! By Liz Peters Mankind has, from the beginning of time, attempted to explain their lives. Before the rise of Christianity, people needed to understand their world around them without the benefit of science. Why did the seasons change? What caused storms, lighting, and thunder? What caused failure and success? Why was there sickness and death? What happened to us when we die? With thousands of years rule during the Greek and Roman and other civilizations, those very intelligent people devised a religious belief that gave answers to these questions and more. Why study such an outdated system of beliefs? For one thing, these stories are entertaining. Children s book authors have latched onto these adventurous stores and entertained a whole generation of children with the Percy Jackson series and others. Many modern movie writers use these stories with gigantic monsters which came directly from the mythological stories. The struggle of good versus evil is paramount to these stories. Shakespeare whose education emphasized the classics including mythology referred to countless gods and goddesses in his plays because the educated class in the sixteenth century would be familiar with the names and appreciate the reference. Those who study astronomy know that so many of the names of the planets and stars in the galaxy are named after Greek, Roman, and Norse mythological names. The list goes on and on. In this short study we will review the major Greek and Roman gods and goddesses, the stories behind them, and concentrate on all the ways their names have flooded our own culture. It is meant to be entertaining, educational, and fun. Join us in Kearns Hall on August 30, at 1:00 p.m. This is the first in a series, Are you smarter than a fifth grader. See you there.

Things turn sour quickly when she must take in Sally, a new roommate to share her precious space.
