1 Easter MAY, 2012 Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, I would like to take this opportunity to share an I recently received from a former parishioner who attended worship at Our Redeemer on Palm Sunday: Dear Pastor, My name is Ron Ubertini and you might not remember me but I attended Our st Redeemer on April 1. I was in town, from NC. Visiting a sick friend. I wanted to attend a Palm Sunday Service and decided to go to Our Redeemer. To give you a little background, I lived in NY for 40 years before moving to NC. I met my Wife who was a member of Our Redeemer and we were married there in April We then moved to East Northport and became members of Christ Lutheran Church until we moved to NC in 2005 where we currently are members of St. Phillip Lutheran Church in Raleigh. Being back at Our Redeemer for the first time since we were married was special for me. I was blown away by the hospitality and family community I experienced. I was fortunate to be sitting by some real friendly people and was happy to have spoken with them, and you, a couple of times that morning. When I arrived, you must have known I was not a regular members and you greeted me with a smile. We also spent a couple of moments together at the end. You had asked me to sign your visitor s book in which I gladly did. I know that a goal for any church is to make visitors feel very welcome. In that mission, you and the entire congregation were successful I thank you and the entire congregation at Our Redeemer for making such a special day, for us all, very fulling. I am very proud of our congregation - of you, the people, the Easter people at Our Redeemer for making all people welcome. This letter is a little bit of the Easter message! Christ is Risen. He is Risen Indeed! And guess what? He lives in all of us! he Peace of the Lord be with you always, OUR REDEEMER NEWSLETTER MAY, 2012 MOTHER You may be treated like the maid, you may be treated like the gardener, you may be treated like the daycare, you may be treated like the chauffeur, you may be treated like many things. But one thing is for sure, You will always be loved. For a fathers work may be from sun up till sundown, but a mothers work is never down. And all that I have, am, and hope to be, I owe to you, So this is for all the times I forgot to say THANK YOU!! - Alison Thompson th MAY 13 A STEWARDSHIP NUDGE FROM THE PASTOR! It s coming down the road! The summer months that is! A few things I would like to encourage us all to remember. Church is open - especially on Sunday mornings and Saturday afternoons. Yes ~ we are open for worship during the summer months. We are working on securing air conditioning. It will have been part of the effort! God does not take a vacation and the work of the Lord continues even during the summer. We need your continued support of time, talents and possessions, your offerings. Be good stewards and give regularly. Take some time off. If you are on vacation and visit another church bring us back a bulletin. (The Pastor does not have to sign it!). 3 GOLDEN LINK MAY 2012 The month of April proved to be the charm. The warm weather and early spring flowers that preceded it seemed to have had a positive effect and we were able to have our first meeting in several months. Pastor stopped by to chat as we were getting started and, it's good to see that when we do get together we enjoy the socialization and, of course, the dessert treats that are usually homemade and outside the regimen of our normal diets-this time supplied by Rich Gehringer and Kay Baumann. Speaking of food, it has come to our attention that our food collection has dwindled recently although April was our special month for donating to the LFCS food bank in Uniondale. This is just a reminder that it's never too late to donate and an item or two dropped in the bin on your way to church can go a long way to alleviate the hunger that most of us never experience. This month our agenda will be the same as last---to enjoy each other's company and to look for activities that fall within the range of our abilities. We might even be cooking up something special for June. So, bring your sandwich or the lunch of your choice and join us. Upcoming Activities Thursday, May 10, 2012 at 12 noon: Luncheon meeting at the church in Room 4. Dessert and coffee will be provided. If you can help with the arrangements, please let Kay Baumann know. Bring a friend if you like. PENTECOST The color red symbolizes the fire of the Holy Spirit given to the disciples on Pentecost Day as it is recorded in the second chapter of Acts. On Sunday, May 27, we will celebrate Pentecost Sunday. This year we would like to adorn the church and church grounds for this day with red geraniums. These plants will be arranged in the Sanctuary for the morning services and thereafter be planted outside in the church garden. DAY CARE NEWS As I breathe a sigh of relief, I am happy to report that we have received the renewal of our Day Care License. The procedure has changed since the last time we renewed. Compared to past years it has become more involved but it is done! I am happy to have the major part complete, although the process is actually ongoing because we may be visited at any time by the state and must always be in compliance. I was really enjoying our bout of warm weather, taking advantage of it by going for just a short ten to fifteen-minute walk each day. Even though I am walking at a fast pace, it helps my brain to slow down, to notice the changes in nature, the trees, the flowers, the sky. Sometimes I feel like I am going at such a fast pace to get things done that I miss all the beauty around me. That is also when I know it is the time to step away from my computer and visit the classrooms! The children have been a busy bunch. They are loving the warm weather and all the outside time. They dyed eggs, went on egg hunts, and made Easter decorations. Pastor taught them about Palm Sunday and Holy week during Chapel Time. Dr. Pinto visited for their monthly Music Time and the Seaford Library Staff has been coming weekly for their Story Hours with the Pre-K. The Staff and I received a four-hour First Aid Training to fulfill our training requirements. Some of the parents and children and I attended Go to Church Sunday on April 8. I would like to thank the School Board for the enjoyable coffee hour. It was very nice to be able to worship together. Pastor did an excellent job in making everyone feel welcome. The children made projects the week before the event and I took pictures to make displays. They are in our hallway now. Please stop by and take a look! In honor of Administrative Assistant s Day I would like to thank the Day Care Secretary, Janine Bowles for all of her hard work. I am lucky to work with such an amazing person and the Day Care is so lucky to have her! I would also like to thank Jackie Edwards for her help with the financial aspects of the business! Last, but certainly not least, my thanks goes to Cindy for all she does. She is here every day handling phones, doors, computer nightmares and everything in between! We couldn t do it without her!
