We Gather for Fellowship Coffee/Donut Fellowship Time: 9:15-9:30 a.m. Fifth Sunday is Sunday Since February we have been on the pilgrimage through the season in the church calendar known as Lent. Now we are approaching the portion of Lent when the events in the life of Jesus Christ begin to take on a new momentum, as well a dramatic change each day of the week. In our Fifth Sunday presentation we will recall the events of the coming week beginning with Palm Sunday that includes the triumphal ride through a crowd-filled city surrounded by jubilant excitement. In a few days the scene shifts to the agony and despair of that Last Supper and a trip to the garden that is followed by a soon to be angry crowd where the King of Glory is betrayed and forsaken. The cross seems to be the end of it all, but with resounding glory we are filled with exclamations of He Is Risen. He is Risen, Indeed! During our Fifth Sunday presentation, complete with choir, orchestra and Ginny Bowles as soloist, you will have an opportunity to experience this Holy Week through spoken word, moving selections of music and inspiring congregational singing. Make a special effort to invite your friends to this time of preparation for Holy Week at 4:00 p.m., this Sunday, March 29. Hope to see you there. Richard

Our next religious holiday is Easter on April 5th. Easter, being a major religious/sacred event, it usually inspires folks to make an extra effort to attend church services. We expect to experience one of the best attended services of the year. In an effort to assure all attendees will enjoy our warm fellowship, the Social Committee has plans to provide refreshments. It has been noticed that our congregation enjoys the warm fellowship most when food is a part of the fellowship/activities. Please attend, enjoy the service on this very sacred holiday, and let the Social Committee feel a sense of pride and accomplishment. (Gloria has already baked her blueberry muffins!) NOT!

Please pray for his comfort and peace for his family. Jack s daughter is married to Margaret Rushing s son, Rick. For Jean Newman and family in the March 23 rd death of her son, Paul. Paul was Gina Smith s uncle. Pray for Al Smith who is recovering from an infection. Pray for Karen Delong who is back in the hospital with a urinary tract infection and heart issues. For Bonnie Savage s dear friend, Mary who has been diagnosed with lung cancer. Diana Sisk requests prayer for her sister, Angie Walk. She is having trouble cognitively with coming up with words for her thoughts and remembering. She is Maundy Thursday Service April 2 nd at 7:30 p.m. The service of Tenebrae, or shadows, grew out of a combination of night prayer and the early morning prayers in the early church. It has been celebrated by the Church since the seventh century. The purpose of the service is to impress upon believers the consequences of our sin and the magnitude of the Savior s love and sacrifice. The common theme is the gathering darkness around Christ s crucifixion and is illustrated by the gradual extinguishing of candles. At the conclusion of each scripture passage, a single candle is extinguished and the room grows darker. Appropriate music and reflective moments are interspersed into the service. The service itself consists of the Lord s Supper and seven reflective scripture readings, each punctuated by the sounds of music and singing. The Christ Candle represents the Savior himself, and, at the appropriate time, it is removed from the sanctuary--symbolizing the death of Jesus. After the draping of the Cross comes the ringing of thirty-three chimes one for each year of Jesus earthly life. Silence in the darkness follows, and worshippers are invited to stay for prayer and reflection for as long as they choose. Upon departing, worshippers should leave in silence, maintaining the spirit of worship befitting this solemn evening. Come join us for this moving service and bring someone with you. Please pray that her doctor can figure out what the problem is and get a good treatment to halt or reverse the progression. For the family of Jim Bassett from Georgia, Susan Booker's 1st cousin who passed away recently. Susan asks for prayers for Jim's brother, Larry, son, Bruce, daughter, Bonnie Robinson, 6 grandchildren and many cousins. Men of Faith Breakfast Saturday, April 11 at 9:00 a.m. Listen up Men of Faith Fellowship! Mr. Tom Leach, The Voice of the Wildcats will be our speaker at the next Men of Faith gathering. What a perfect time to invite your friends and neighbors to join in! Our next gathering is Saturday, April 11 th at the Shamrock grill at 9:00 a.m. You can sign up at the Welcome Center or give Norma a call at the church office, The deadline to sign up will be Thursday, April 9 th.
