1 Volume 6, Issue 30 July 30, 2014 Who We Are Faith Fellowship of Lexington is a non-denominational gathering of Christians who enjoy traditional worship services. Where to Find Us Faith Fellowship of Lexington worships in the Seventh-day Adventist Church facilities at 968 Lane Allen Road in Lexington, Kentucky. Our offices have relocated to 365 Waller Avenue, Suite 120, in Lexington. We're at on the web. If you go to you can watch our service live on Sunday mornings. You can also watch archived services by going to the ihigh address above. We Gather for Fellowship Coffee/Donut Fellowship Time: 9:15-9:30 a.m. We Gather for Bible Study Adult I Sunday school meets at 9:30 a.m. in room 8 (Library). The Pastor s Pen by Dr. Bill Turner, Senior Pastor One of the things we've rediscovered during our summer trip through First and Second Samuel is the disturbing and refreshing humanity of the Bible's cast of characters. We've also been reminded of the need to be honest and diligent students of the scriptures (a Sunday School commercial goes here!). But sometimes - in days gone by - things got tangled in the print shop, and the Bible became even more challenging to decipher. Tyler Sergent, a professor at Berea College, compiled a list of "curious" mistakes and the nicknames which were attached to some of the older English editions. For example: The "Judas Bible," 1611, had Matthew 26:36 as "Then cometh Judas with them." "Jesus" would be the correct name printed there. The "Revenge Bible" 1613, had Romans 12:17 as "Recompense to man evil for evil." Should have been "no man." The "Wife-Haters Bible," 1819, had Luke 14:26 as "If any man hate not his own wife." Should be "own life." The "Easter Bible," 1648, had the title of page of The Book of Esther as Easter. The "Forgotten Sins" Bible, 1638, had Luke 7:47 as "Her sins are

The "Murderer's Bible," 1801, had Judges 16 as "These are the murderers complaints." Should be "murmurers complaint." Thankfully, our new editions are more accurate! They go on telling The Human Story AND how a loving God wants to play a pivotal role in it. I'll wrap up our summer series this coming Sunday. Bring your Bible! Prayer Group continues by Scot Reeves "The Faith Fellowship Prayer Group continues to meet 10am each Tuesday at the NEW Church Office on Waller Avenue. Summer schedules have kept the group small but the time together is powerful. Prayer time is not high-wire, high octane, or high tech, but powerful nonetheless. Billy Ray Jennings shared this quote from French 1912 Nobel Prize Winner in Physiology and Medicine, Alexis Carrel, who pioneered vascular suturing techniques: Prayer is the most powerful form of energy one can generate. The influence of prayer on the human body is as demonstrable as that of the secreting glands. Prayer is a force as real as terrestrial gravity. It supplies us with a flow of sustaining power in our daily lives. Know that you are welcome to join in the weekly unleashing of this force as we go to GOD through prayer!" Mission Moment by Ginny Berry Faith Fellowship of Lexington seeks to become the hands and feet of Christ in the world through engagement in missions. This wonderful ministry provides comfort to our church family who deal with illness and loss. They offer a meal for someone recovering from surgery. They will provide a meal to a family who has experienced loss after the funeral, light refreshments during visitation, or any other plan that may work better for the family. They extend kindness, comfort, love and concern through the food they prepare. They believe God s word when He tells us to be devoted to one another in love, to practice hospitality and share with the Lord s people who are in need (Romans 12:10, 11 & 13). Congratulations to Morris and Adelyn Trammell on 68 years of marriage! Morris and Adelyn Trammell celebrated 68 years of marriage on Monday, July 28! Although Adelyn is at the Richmond Place Rehab facility receiving therapy for a broken hip, if you would like to send a card to their home address at 406 Queensway Drive, Lexington, KY 40502, I m sure Morris will be happy to share your cards and best wishes with her. What a lovely example they have set for us all!

7 treatment he needs. Pray also for his wife, Cybil that the Lord will calm her fears, give her wisdom, strength and peace as they make decisions together about Robert s health and their family. For Todd Pickett, who is in Stage 5 of kidney disease and is in need of a kidney transplant. John and Gloria Compton have known Todd since his birth. They sincerely appreciate your prayers on Todd s behalf. For Dorothy Hylton who recently had a brain hemorrhage and now has Aphasia, as a result, which affects her speech. She is currently at Cardinal Hill receiving therapy. For the family of J.D. Clifton who passed away recently. (Crews) For the Baute family who has two children with a genetic disorder. The daughter is currently undergoing a bone marrow transplant and the son just completed one. The Dad was just diagnosed with non- Hodgkin s Lymphoma. (Roser) Faith from the Front Porch by Jackie Bondurant "We must work the works of Him who sent Me as long as it is day; night is coming when no one can work. While I am in the world, I am the Light of the world." John 9:4-5 Time and age can be measured by memories of summer nights spent on our front porch. When our kids were young, the porch could bring together a dozen or more neighbors rehashing local politics while the young ones played hide and seek. Gatherings often moved from porch to porch with no rhyme or reason just a natural progression. As time passed, the kids grew up, adults aged, and the houses changed owners. What never changed were the rules of sitting on the porch. 1. When people are sitting on their porch, they are ready to receive visitors. 2. Only drinks (hard or soft) and snacks are allowed to be served on the porch. 3. Kids can not jump off the rails. 4. No music can be played (there are exceptions to this rule). 5. Folding clothes is forbidden, but breaking green beans is okay. 6. Porch lights are not to be turned on after dark (as long as people are sitting there).
8 Ongoing Prayers for our Soldiers Faith Afield Here are the names of the service people we currently know about. SSGT. Jamen Berry, son of Andy Berry Capt. Ginny Iskandarov niece of Ginny Berry Elnur Iskandarov nephew of Ginny Berry by marriage SSGT. Cameron Smith brother of Sean Smith Airman Benjamin Engelbrecht son of Paul Engelbrecht Please send Ginny Berry any updates on the status of these persons change in rank, address, new assignment Her address is Administrative Board Liz Berryman, Chair Anne Crowe, Treasurer Judy Brand, Secretary Mitch Borders Charlotte Krasinski Bob Quisenberry Ron Reaguer Roger Blair David Hart 7. The porch swing or rocking chair cannot be left moving (Grandma s rule). Another thing that never changes about porch sitting is the way sunlight affects the activity of the environment. As the sun begins to settle in the west, the birds slowly stop their conversations, the squirrels begin to gather and climb up to their nests, and the voices of children and adults soften into a steady murmur. Time spent with friends and neighbors is not only precious but fleeting for as the sun shows us, when the last rays of the day are gone, the darkness falls and friends (like the birds and the squirrels) disperse to rest for another day.
