1 Volume 8, Issue 24 June 15, 2016 The Pastor s Pen Who God Is Taken from 31 Ways to Praise by Bob Hostetler He is The God of Miracles. Lord, I praise You because You are the God who performs miracles; You display Your power among the peoples (Psalm 77:14). Who We Are Faith Fellowship of Lexington is a Multi-denominational gathering of Christians who enjoy traditional worship services. Where to Find Us Liberty Road Faith Fellowship worships at 2734 Liberty Road. You can find us on the web at Click on Watch Our Services Online Now at the bottom of our Website Homepage to watch live or archived services. We Gather for Fellowship Coffee/Donut Fellowship Time: 9:00-10:15 a.m. Kearns Hall. by Dr. Bill Turner, Senior Pastor With summertime and Summer Frenzy well under way, I want to tell you about an opportunity to do something good at mid-summer - specially, the weekend just before Independence Day. Kentucky Refugee Ministries has been at work in our state since 1990, and in that time has welcomed people from all over the world to our communities. With offices in Lexington and Louisville, this non-profit agency draws on a variety of resources to do their work - including participation by a number of churches and other religious groups. They have helped to resettle over 10,000 people from 45 different nationalities and ethnic groups. These are all legal immigrants, but many come to America to escape war and persecution; so they have very little when they arrive. Within a period of months, KRM helps them toward self-sufficiency and successful integration into our state. Director of the Lexington affiliate is my friend, Dabney Parker; we worked together at Lexington Seminary before she moved to KRM. I received a note from her a few days ago, indicating that June arrivals were coming "fast and furious" refugees coming this month (27 on one day), and these are families, from 3 to 8 in number.
2 We Gather for Bible Study The Adult I Sunday school meet at 9:30 a.m. in room 3. The Living Faith Sunday school meet at 9:30 a.m. in room 9. Blood Pressure checks See one of our nurses in the overflow room to the right of the sanctuary each Sunday beginning at 10 a.m. to have your blood pressure checked. We Gather for Worship Sunday Worship: 11:00 a.m. Children s Church: 11:15 a.m. in room 4. Our Nursery is located in room 2. We re Looking Forward \June 15 (Wednesday) The King and I; 1:00 p.m. at the Kentucky Theatre; call Sarah Reeves, June 16 Technology Committee will meet in the Church Library, room #9 at 6:30 p.m. June 18 Men of Faith Breakfast These newcomers will need practically everything from housing to furniture to transportation to shopping and school registration tips - and more. Okay - they will also need DIAPERS - LOTS OF DIAPERS for the children because, as Dabney says, "there are always little people." When I saw that, I thought that this was a need we could respond to - and quickly! So I contacted Janet Layman and our Missions Committee, and we've agreed that Sunday, July 3rd, will be "Diapers for Refugee Kids" Day at Liberty Road Faith Fellowship! All sizes are needed - newborn through toddler. Kids arriving during June will come in all sizes and ages. The season around July 4th is a yearly reminder that all of our American founders were refugees themselves. Doing a Diaper Drive for refugee children will be a fitting way to celebrate America! So when you go to the store, please pick up some Pampers, Huggies, etc. to bring to church on July 3rd. They'll be delivered to the KRM office the following week, and they'll be a welcome gift to children and families who're struggling to find their way into a new life in a new land. Sounds a lot like "being the hands and feet of Christ," don't you think?. Let's do it together!

This is especially true when I look at our front porch. As with all houses of age, it is constantly in need of repair. Most of the time, the disasters happen when there is company present. Once, when our Atlanta friend stepped through a weak spot on the porch floor, Jim Svec came to the rescue and brought his crew to rebuild the entire front porch. Since that time Jim and his son, Jamie, have become regulars building a deck on the back, refurbishing our family room, adding light fixtures, new ceilings, plumbing, and water filters, whatever is needed. All the members of the Svec family are known for their acts of kindness, soft spoken words, and compassion for others. Linda s passion is teaching teachers in Africa. So it is no surprise that Jamie is now his second year of seminary. His calling seems to lean toward counseling pastors. Jamie is truly following the example of Christ. The son of a carpenter has started on a journey that Is not this the carpenter s son? Is not his mother called Mary? And are not his brothers James and Joseph and Simon and Judas? Matthew 13:55 Pictured back row: Jamie and Jim Svec. Front row: Rev. Lee Jones (retired UMC pastor and grandfather of Jamie and Joey), Linda and Joey Svec an entire family of true servant hearts who always look for ways to be the hands and feet of Christ. only God can write the itinerary. He is a beloved child and will join an elite group of men and women who continue the work of the Kingdom.
