We Gather for Fellowship Coffee/Donut Fellowship Time: 9:15-9:30 a.m. We Gather for Bible Study Adult I Sunday school meets at by Dr. Bill Turner The Pastor s Pen As we move more deeply into this Lenten Season, these words from Episcopal preacher and teacher, Barbara Brown Taylor, are worth pondering: The church announced a season of Lent, from the old English word, lenten, meaning "spring" not only a reference to the season before Easter, but also an invitation to a springtime for the soul. Forty days to cleanse the system and open the eyes to what remains when all comfort is gone. Forty days to remember what it is like to live by the grace of God alone and not by what we can supply for ourselves. I think of it as an Outward Bound for the soul. Good food for thought - prayerful and soul-searching thought. Daylight Savings Time Begins on Sunday, March 8, 2015 Spring Forward 1 hour Saturday night (March 7) before you go to bed!

Mission Moment by Marsha Oakley Faith Fellowship of Lexington seeks to become the hands and feet of Christ in the world through engagement in missions. When someone is hungry, their stomach rumbles with a gnawing feeling. If this physical signal is ignored, the body sends more serious indicators in the form of lightheadedness, headaches, and irritability. Now imagine that you are experiencing hunger, and there is no next meal, as you just used your last few dollars to put gas in the car, buy diapers, or pay a school fee for your child. What do you do? These words, from the God s Pantry Web Site, put into perspective words found in Matthew 25:34-41: for I was hungry, and you gave me food. This is why it is important that we support the needs of those who are without, especially children and seniors. Our 1 st of the 2015 Six Sundays of Sharing was held this past Sunday, March 1 st. For those of you who gave, we thank you so much. At the request of Dr. Turner, we will continue to collect non-perishable food items for the Sd-A Food Bank and monetary donations to God s Pantry this coming Sunday, March 8 th. Collection will be taken prior to the service at the entrance into the church. If writing a check, please make it out to Faith Fellowship, place God s Pantry on the memo line, and place it in the offering plate. For every $10 donated, $100 worth of food can be made available. Please share with those who are in need. Thank you. Missions Committee

Please pray that her doctor can figure out what the problem is and get a good treatment to halt or reverse the progression Lenten Home Study continues come join in! by Dr. Carolyn Purcell Join us for a home study in my home, 2109 Island Drive, from 10 to 11:30 AM to study The Spirit of the Disciplines: Understanding How God Changes Lives by Dallas Willard. You may have read this classic before, but it is worth repeating. To register for this study contact Carolyn Purcell at cpurcellret1998@gmail.com or as soon as possible so that books can be ordered. Also, a sign-up will be available Sunday at church. Our study will begin the Tuesday before Mardi Gras and conclude on the Tuesday after Easter Sunday. We will look at the classic spiritual disciplines and see how they change our lives by leading to a closer relationship with God. By beginning a week early we will have the opportunity to choose a discipline to practice during the Lenten period which begins with Ash Wednesday, (today), and ends Easter Sunday, April 5. Our meeting on the Tuesday after Easter will be a luncheon, wrap-up, sharing of what we learned or experienced by our practiced discipline. Please consider joining me in this journey to Easter. Bonhoeffer Class with Billy Ray continues by Rev. Billy Ray Jennings The Bonhoeffer Abridged book study continues this Wednesday (7 p.m.) - Thursday (10:30 a.m.) with Billy Ray Jennings at Southern Hills UMC in the Fireside Room. Faith From the Front Porch by Jackie Bondurant The poor is hated even of his own neighbour; but the rich hath many friends. Proverbs 14:20 My childhood home which ironically is located across Richmond Road from our house on Desha also had a front porch. I have many great memories of catching fire flies, playing tag, and just sitting listening to grown-up talk on the porch. In between my Victory Avenue home and Desha Road, I lived in houses where there was no outdoor front room. People gathered on patios and decks at the back of their house. In reflection, I believe this architectural difference greatly changes the interactions of the neighborhood. A few months after I married, I received some interesting advice from a former professor. Because you are working, you don t have to be friends with everyone in your neighborhood. And, this was true until we moved to Desha. Opening our porch each spring also opens our lives and our hearts to everyone who walks by and stops to visit. How blessed is that? Soldiers Faith Afield Here are the names of the service people we currently know about.
