1 6 th March 2016 Priory Methodist Church Notices We welcome you to worship God with us today. We light the Peace Candle and pray for peace in the world. Call To Worship God our Father, your heart is: big enough to go on loving those who have hurt you; generous enough to forgive those who turn back to you; understanding enough to reason with those who feel hard done by. So we rejoice as we worship this morning, for we are those people, loved, forgiven and understood. Our Minister is the Reverend Glayne Worgan There are bibles available in some chair backs. If you have not got one to hand there are more available from the leaflet distributors in the welcome area. A special welcome to any visitors with us today We serve tea, coffee and soft drinks after the morning services in the small hall each week. Do stay and meet together with us.

4 Lenten Cross Liturgy Our liturgy this year comes from Nexus Methodist Church, a Christian Community in Bath where 2 Methodist churches have united, using one building as their main worship centre and both as community centres to serve the people of Bath. May the words and symbols help us as we travel through Lent. Leader: Leader: LENT LITURGY 2016 The fourth Sunday in Lent is Mothering Sunday. We place a Methodist Orb on the cross - a symbol that declares that the love of Christ reaches round the globe. It is for all. The orb is placed on the cross For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. [John 3: 16 & 17] All: Gracious God, help us to live as people who know that we are loved, not condemned. Amen Tuesday Fellowship Tuesday fellowship meeting on the 8th March at 2.30pm. Speaker is Carmen Rowe Topic 'Does God answer prayer?'. All are welcome. Thank you It was a lovely surprise to open my door to a smiling Kathy bearing a bunch of beautiful flowers. Thank you very much. I am pleased to say that my son-in-law is making an excellent recovery. Marlene Howker Many thanks for the lovely flowers I received from the Church on Monday following my recent operation. They were much appreciated. Also thanks to Kathy Lewis for delivering them to me and having time for a chat. I hope to be back with you soon and to be back to full fitness by the end of the month. Les Exton Easter Lilies It is proposed to decorate the church with lilies again on Easter Sunday morning. You are invited to dedicate one or more lilies in memory of loved ones at a cost of 3 each. The appropriate amount should be placed in an envelope, together with your name and the name(s) of those you wish to remember. Please leave the envelope in the 'B' pigeonhole marked for Sue Butler by 13th March at the latest. Donors will this year be invited to take their lilies home at the end of Easter morning service. Craft Club The Craft Club meets tomorrow evening in Room 3 at 7.30pm, when we will be making a bookmark with ribbon. It is 3.50 per evening which includes refreshments and materials. The Revd Reg Taylor It is with regret that we have heard of the death of Reg Taylor last week. Reg, a resident at Ladyslaude Court was taken into hospital following a stroke and died on the Tuesday evening. We offer our love and prayers to Ruth, his daughter, who fortunately was in the country from the USA and was with him when he died. Further details will be available later.

5 Baptism Glayne will be baptising Robert and Jenny Wood s grandson, Matthew, on Sunday 13th March in Methodist worship. He is the son of their son, Jonathan Wood, and his wife Paulette and sister Rebecca (8) and brother Stephen (5). Easter Breakfast - 27th March Please see the sign up sheet in the vestibule to sign up for Easter breakfast starting from 8:30am. Priory Annual Church Meeting Next Sunday 13th March pm A reminder of this important meeting at which Worship Stewards, Leadership Team and Church Council Congregational Representatives will be elected and confirmed. The meeting is open to all. Voting is restricted to Priory Church Members. If you are able to serve in any of these roles please contact Glayne or any of the "photo-faces" on the leadership team board in the vestibule. You can also "sign up" at the meeting. A collated set of reports from the ministry teams is available by request to the Church Council Secretary (awjdoctortony@gmail.com) and a limited number of hard copies will be available at the Annual meeting where you will have an opportunity to comment or ask questions - see Reports Announcement in the Notices today. The meeting is an important opportunity for anyone to ask questions or express views on any aspect of the life and work of the Church - please be there. One question for congregational feedback is the am timing of services. The last part of the meeting will be be a silent discussion on the Life of the Church ( large sheets of paper laid out for writing questions and comments) followed by open discussion. For further information please contact Tony Johnson, Church Council secretary. Any more Annual Reports? A set of reports for the Annual Church meeting has been prepared and is available from Tony Johnson, electronically or hard copy. Sections included are Finance, Property, Worship. Pastoral, Evangelism, Junior Church, GLT (Goldington Churches Together), Links to North Beds Circuit, Safeguarding. There are many other Groups and activities at Priory and some may wish an opportunity to contribute a short report (1/2 page max) for their group for the past year. Accordingly there will be a Supplement to the Church Meeting reports for this purpose. In the past there have been contributions from the Fellowship groups, House groups, Uniform groups, Outreach activities, International Charitable projects, Messy Church programme and others. Anyone interested in providing a report should contact Tony Johnson or send him a copy by . Invitation to Cabaret rehearsal As some of you are aware our daughter Janet has led some workshops in singing for fun and raised some money for our charities in the past. She also sings in various groups and will soon be doing a Cabaret act. In order not to get her pianist Simon to go to Portsmouth to rehearse (he lives in Hitchin) Janet has booked the chapel to have a 2 hour rehearsal on Saturday 12th March between 2-4 pm. As well as Simon there will be Matthew her husband on percussion. The style of music will be 30's Swing. Norma and I thought it would be an opportunity to raise some funds for the church. So we would like to invite you for tea/coffee and cake, come and go as you please. There will be no charge but donations will be welcome..john & Norma

6 Prayer Diary The Prayer Diary is published on the first Sunday of the month. Copies are available on the brochure stand in the Welcome Area for the month and also on the Prayer Board at the back of the Church. Suggestions for the Diary are welcome. MHA Annual Report - A Year in Our Life MHA has recently published our Annual Report, A Year in Our Life, which summarises how we use our fundraised income and what we aim to achieve over the next 10 years. The report can be downloaded from the MHA website at or take a look at the copy on the table in the welcome area. We continue to cherish the on-going relationship with the Methodist people and are grateful for support which is offered through volunteering, fundraising and prayer. We hope that the facts and figures in the Annual Report will help people better understand our work, which is now making a difference to the lives of over 16,000 older people in over 200 locations across the UK. Spring Concert at Priory : 30 th April 7.30pm. Last September I joined up with a saxophone group called Sax s Cool! More than a dozen sax s, a couple of guitars, a bass and now drums. They have kindly agreed to bring a concert to Priory for thousands facing poverty and sickness in Zimbabwe. The programme will include a wide variety of music arranged for sax ensemble, quite a number from pre-war period. Please reserve the date and come if you can. Tickets ( 5) will be available early in March. Zimbabwe s People - facing months of severe drought and famine, many will not survive. The April harvest has already been destroyed. UN say three million need food. The Government has no budget to buy in maize this year.. even though over half a million pounds has just been spent on celebrating the president s birthday! The UN and EU are giving some support. I hope that we may be able to provide a little help too. David Winwood. Support for Yarlswood Detention Centre As part of the Goldington Churches Together initiative to support the residents at Yarlswood, Priory will send 40 Easter cards written to the residents on Priory s behalf. Thanks to Hazel and her Crafts Group for doing this. There is still a great need for Bibles, so if you have any spare Bible in good condition, please give to Glayne before Palm Sunday so they can be sent too. There is no need for suitcases at present. Before launching 100m, Carl was Director of Operations and also Director of Ministry at United Christian Broadcasters, responsible for all non-broadcast engagement for this national Christian ministry. 100m aims to work with Organisations, Denominations, Churches, Ministries and Individuals to bring resources to one place and help train and equip anyone that would like to join in the vision. Launching just this month, Carl has started 100m literally from the ground up with new systems and a blank canvas so to speak. One of the main 100m projects is an digital evangelism resource which Carl developed while he was at UCB, which they kindly allowed him to take with him when he left. In 2003 she returned her MBE as a protest against the new empire in Iraq and a growing republicanism. Tuesday 14 June Living as Christians in Multi-faith Britain and the Importance of Religious Literacy Michael Wakelin Religious Literacy is a new approach to interfaith understanding. It s a secular endeavour, not about more God but better talk about God. It s about understanding religion so that we can move beyond ignoring it which is dangerous, move beyond tolerance towards acceptance and understanding of people s beliefs and values so that true coexistence can be given a chance. As Christians we need to take the lead on this. I believe that for a safer world, we need a widespread recognition that religion matters to the vast majority of the world, and therefore needs to be treated with knowledge, fairness and respect. Maybe then religion can transform from the liability it so often is to the asset it can potentially become. Michael is a religion and media consultant, Executive Associate in Public Education for the Faculty of Divinity, University of Cambridge, Director of Coexist Programmes, and ExecProducer TBI Media, having previously been Head of Religion and Ethics at the BBC.
