4 Lenten Cross Liturgy Our liturgy this year comes from Nexus Methodist Church, a Christian Community in Bath where 2 Methodist churches have united, using one building as their main worship centre and both as community centres to serve the people of Bath. May the words and symbols help us as we travel through Lent. LENT LITURGY 2016 Leader: Leader: On the second Sunday in Lent, we place a red ribbon round the Lenten Cross as we remember that the call upon Jesus, and upon us, is not an easy one it is costly and often counter-cultural. A red ribbon is draped over the cross. Then he called the crowd to him along with his disciples and said: Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me and for the gospel will save it. [Mark 8: 34 & 35] All: Most holy God, give us the desire to reject evil no matter how profitable or popular it appears, to seek to do the right thing even though it costs us dearly. Amen Tuesday Fellowship Tuesday Fellowship meet on the 23rd February at 2.30pm. Speaker Mr Paul Sutherland from Bedford Garden Carers. All are welcome. Jasine Belinfante Messy Church Consultation -23rd February We will meet with Glayne on Tuesday afternoon at 2pm. We welcome anyone to attend who is interested in young people. John Durant It is with regret that we have learned of the death of John Durrant who only recently reached the age of 98. John was the oldest and longest serving resident at Anjulita Court. For many years John along with his wife Peggy and children Judith and Tim were active members at Priory until they responded to an appeal for leadership and support to be given to our partner Church at Park Road. It was here that they gave generously of their time and gifts until Peggy s untimely death in 1997, aged 71, and John going into residential care. There will be a Thanksgiving Service for the life of John at Priory on Thursday February 25th at 1-30pm followed by a service of committal at Bedford Crematorium at 2-30pm. Bill Davies Praying for us Those who heard Curate Ben Lewis from St Mary s preach at Priory recently will recall that he committed to pray for Priory on his retreat at Walsingham. We have received a card from Walsingham to say that he did indeed do so; it is on the main notice board in the vestibule. Marmalade Money Thank you for purchasing the new season's marmalade. I have arranged to send for helping the Cumbrian flood victims. Susanne Edwards

5 Thank you Thank you to the church and Gordon Beeden for bringing me the bouquet of flowers after I had my operation. It was a lovely surprise to see Gordon on my doorstep, much appreciated. Keep me in your prayers, Lodewyk Nel What a lovely surprise when smiling Gordon Beeden called and delivered beautiful flowers from Priory. They have cheered us up considerably and reminds us that Priory is a very caring Church. We hope to be back when our nasty chest infections have disappeared. Many thanks and God Bless, Marion and Keith Goddard Twice a year we like to contact the people and organisations who regularly donate items to Bedford Foodbank and say a big 'Thank You' for all your support. In the last six months Priory Methodist Church has donated kg of non-perishable items. Regular donations, such as yours, are vital to the on-going provision of food for those in our community who are in such great need. The need for help from the Foodbank continues to increase year upon year and we now regularly feed around 500 people a month, giving them enough food for 3-4 days, or around 10 meals. The monthly food leaving our warehouse is generally in the region of 5-6 tonnes, so we are very grateful for all donations we receive as each one is vital for the ongoing work of the Foodbank, and is greatly appreciated. So we thank you, once again, for your support. Last year we fed 5893 people, of which 2090 were children. Chris Hubbard - Admin Support Passion Play Excitement is mounting as we draw close to 25 th March when the events of Holy Week will be re-enacted in Bedford Town Centre. Can you help in any of these ways? The costume team are still in need of clean tights (any colour), lengths of cord and fabric. There is still time to join the play as part of the crowd. We will be singing a few wellknown hymns (Give me joy, Were you there, Thine be the glory) as well as reacting to events and chatting with the audience. Could you act as a steward on the day? Could you bring someone along to watch? Please pray for the event for those taking part and those who will watch. Find out more from Glayne, Carmen Rowe, John Ayers, Susanne Edwards or come to Priory at 10.30am on 5 th March when there will be a full rehearsal. Biscuits galore!! and for Church Funds. A big thank you to everyone who contributed to the Biscuit Walk last Sunday. It was most successful on many levels. The bakers did a wonderful job providing a remarkable variety of mouthwatering offerings. It seemed that nearly everyone coming in to Church was bringing biscuits - we had five large tables with around plates of biscuits per table. After the service it seemed nearly everyone stopped to fill a tin with biscuits - 46 small containers and 28 large were used!! Thanks are due everyone. Additional thanks to those who contributed beyond the suggested donations and to those who missed the event but gave a donation. The left over biscuits went mostly to the Bedford Homeless Food station on Sunday night (they received 11 bags of 5 biscuits) with the remainder added to the Priory Coffee morning supplies. And finally, a thank you to all who helped with setting up, supervising the walk and clearing away afterwards. Priory is truly blessed to have such a generous and supportive congregation.

6 Easter Lilies It is proposed to decorate the church with lilies again on Easter Sunday morning. You are invited to dedicate one or more lilies in memory of loved ones at a cost of 3 each. The appropriate amount should be placed in an envelope, together with your name and the name(s) of those you wish to remember. Please leave the envelope in the 'B' pigeonhole marked for Sue Butler by 13th March at the latest. Donors will this year be invited to take their lilies home at the end of Easter morning service. Praying for Priory The next opportunity to pray for our church will be from 6.30 pm 7.15 pm on Thursday 3 rd March, just before Church Council. Please join us to put our church life before God, even if you are not staying for the Council. There is no need to pray aloud; bring a prayer with you if you wish, but your presence and your Amen are what matter most Priory Annual Church Meeting noon Sunday 13th March 2016 This a formal notification of the Annual Church meeting to be held in the Sanctuary, pm, on Sunday 13th March. 9 100m Lent morning on prayer - Saturday 12th March 2016 at Priory Methodist Church, Newnham Avenue am pm We are delighted to announce that Carl Brettle, CEO and Founder of 100m will be coming to Bedford in March to encourage us to reflect deeper on prayer and look at how we can have confidence in our expectant of seeing people come to faith. Carl will be speaking at Priory Methodist Church on Saturday 12th March The FREE Lent morning programme is for the whole church across Bedford and the surrounding areas between 10.30am and 1.00pm However, we will start with refreshments from 10.00am then there will be a prompt start. As CEO of newly launched, 100m, Carl has a very simple but LARGE vision 'to see 100m make a decision for Christ'. This will not be restricted to the UK and it may take several years, but Carl's aim is to continue until we see this figure reached. Before launching 100m, Carl was Director of Operations and also Director of Ministry at United Christian Broadcasters, responsible for all non-broadcast engagement for this national Christian ministry. 100m aims to work with Organisations, Denominations, Churches, Ministries and Individuals to bring resources to one place and help train and equip anyone that would like to join in the vision. Launching this month, Carl has started 100m literally from the ground up with new systems and a blank canvas so to speak. One of the main 100m projects is an digital evangelism resource which Carl developed while he was at UCB, which they kindly allowed him to take with him when he left. That chuggs along in the background, winning people to Christ. You can find out more about Carl's remarkable story here: Tickets Call Standard rate - 4 On the door Milton Keynes - 2 March The Ridgeway Centre, Featherstone Road, MK12 5TH
