1 House Programme 2011 Llangasty seeks to provide the space in which our visitors can grow in the Spirit of Christ. Our lives are constrained by many factors beyond our control, both outside ourselves and within. Freeing ourselves from external restraints, even if it is possible, is useless unless we attend to those inner emotional or spiritual forces, which threaten to enslave us. The Christian spiritual tradition provides us with a path we can follow, guided by the Holy Spirit, towards the fullness of freedom and joy in the kingdom of God. That freedom is the birthright of every human being, in which we realize who we are as unique persons made in the image of God. In the space and tranquillity of Llangasty we can begin to discover our true selves and how we can begin to live in spiritual freedom, whatever the outward circumstances of our lives. The love of Christ constrains us Paul says (2 Corinthians 5.14) and in that self-giving love there is perfect freedom.

Would you like to know how to make your Church more welcoming to D/deaf people? Then come along to the workshop. It will include worship, quizzes, discussion and activities in small groups. 4 Tuesday 26th July Day Events Retreat Association Quiet Day Led by Very Revd Michael Tavinor, Dean of Hereford Pilgrimage and People a reflection on some local saints and sinners and what they may be saying to us today. The Dean has a particular interest in the saints of this area and is writing a book on the subject. He sees sainthood as a very wide category and several of the characters in the book may well raise some eyebrows! Coffee 10.00am Commence 10.30am Cost 25 (Discount available for members of RA member groups) Tuesday 25th October Looking to the Saints Led by Revd John Armson In retirement, Canon John Armson lives on the edge of the Black Mountains. His ministry has included a London parish, a university chaplaincy, two theological colleges and a cathedral. He is associated with the Fairacres Community in Oxford. As we approach the feast of All Saints he hopes to lead a day which has space for reflection and silence as we ponder the lives of those who have gone before us. 6 Led by Dilly Baker Lent Retreat 9th to 13th March The Angel s Question: A Retreat for Lent The biblical story of Hagar s encounter with an angel in the desert, provides the backdrop for a consideration of our own faith journeys and in particular, the chance to explore the angel s question, Where have you come from and where are you going? Drawing on literature, poetry, psychology and spirituality, this Lent retreat will appeal to all who, on their journey, have encountered pastures green, stumbling blocks, dead ends and bright horizons; and who are seeking encouragement to take the next step, whatever that might be for them. Dilly Baker is an Anglican Priest in North Yorkshire and runs The Open Table, fusing spirituality and personal development. She is increasingly known nationally as a Retreat Leader and is author of A Place at the Table: liturgies and resources for a Christ centred hospitality Arrive 4pm Wednesday, depart after lunch on Sunday. 7 Touching the Cloak Journeying towards healing through imaginative contemplation Led by Pat Marsh 8th to 10th July In 2010 Pat was awarded a ministry scholarship to New Zealand to deepen her study of how imaginative contemplation with the scriptures could lead to healing. This retreat will be based on materials that grew out of that study. Pat will offer a blend of stillness, contemplation, music and poetry that will be designed to soothe the soul and facilitate inner healing. Come and be nourished. Come and allow yourself to touch the cloak of Jesus. Please note that the retreat will include some periods of non-threatening silence. Pat Marsh works full time as a Christian writer, speaker, prayerful listener and retreat leader. She currently has three books in print; Whispers of Love, Silent Strength and The Gift of a Cross and is the recipient of several awards. 9 22nd to 24th July Transforming events in the Gospels and the Way of Christ for us today Led by Revd Colin Sutton We will look at some of the Gospel encounters that changed peoples lives in the light of the Transfiguration of Christ on the mountain, and look at how those insights direct our lives as followers of Christ. Whilst this is arranged by Llangasty's Prayer Fellowship of the Transfiguration, it is open to all. This is not a totally silent retreat, but we will keep the mornings as a quiet time. Fr Colin Sutton is convenor of the Prayer Fellowship and a member of the Llandaff Diocesan Spirituality Group as well as a parish priest. He is an experienced Retreat Leader. 10 4pm Monday 8th August to 10am Monday 15th August Creative Arts Retreat Movement Painting & Prayer Chaplain: Revd Richard Steel Tutor: Ruth Bacmeister In the image of a creative God We welcome people from all traditions and hope that they will find spiritual refreshment in a relaxed atmosphere. Each day begins and ends with communal worship. This is optional but gives a structure to the day. Following breakfast there is a short Chaplain's session. These sessions will explore depictions of Jesus through the art of many cultures. After a day's creative activity, there will be an opportunity in the evening, for those who wish, to share what they have done, followed by a variety of discussions/activities, including sharing of our stories. CARM retreats are not silent but have a tradition of silence from the end of evening worship until the Chaplain's session the following morning. Each applicant will receive fuller details nearer the time.

11 Ruth is a retired art teacher and has been a CARM Painting leader for many years. Her favourite medium is acrylic and she is a member of the National Association of Acrylic Painters - though she is not expecting everyone to take up acrylics. Should you wish to consult her about art materials etc. she is happy for you to phone her on Richard is currently Rector of a parish in West Yorkshire. He has been a keen photographer for many years and more recently taken up drawing and painting. An avid radio listener he became a volunteer on a local BBC radio station which led to him being professionally involved with the media for 20 years. My aim in the worship, and other input, is to create space to think, reflect and pray, using texts, music, visuals, symbolic actions and silence - and whatever elements are offered by the retreatants. The style of worship is informal and meditative and draws inspiration from a wide variety of Christian sources, particularly the Celtic tradition. 12 Led by Margaret Blake Let there be Light 12th to 14th September These words from the opening verses of the bible speak of how the light of God broke into a world of chaos and darkness. They are words of hope. With the coming of Autumn, days shorten and nights lengthen. The hours of darkness are gaining ascendancy. Or so it seems. For us, too, there are times in our lives when events conspire to darken our own world. The light can seem but a distant memory or a fragile hope. Yet the light is still there. Using a variety of approaches scripture, imagination, creativity this Retreat can help us to both acknowledge the darkness and to re-affirm the light: the Light of Christ. These few days offer not only some input to help with the process but also time for private prayer, relaxation and fellowship. Above all, this Retreat offers a time of hope. The Reverend Margaret Blake is a retired parish priest from the Diocese of Guildford, Surrey. She now serves as an honorary curate in the Dan yr Epynt Group, just outside Brecon. She has had much experience of Ignatian spirituality and has worked as a Spiritual Director/Soul Friend for some years; accompanying people at a deep and personal level in their journey with God. She is also much influenced by Celtic spirituality and the Iona Community. She has led several ecumenical pilgrimages to holy sites in the UK, including Iona, the Holy Island of Lindisfarne, and the cathedral at St. Davids, Pembrokeshire. 13 Finding a Manger at the Heart of the Universe 21st to 23rd November Led by Susan Hill Sayers Using all the space and natural beauty of Llangasty this pre Advent retreat will be the opportunity to slow down and stop a while in God s good presence before the Christmas season begins. We will travel together through the universe we are still getting to know, following a star in preparation for celebrating the birth of all births at Christmas. You ll never look at the manger in quite the same way again. Cost 145 Do some cloud and star gazing. Celebrate life in all its ache and privilege. Refresh your sense of wonder. All bookings are considered provisional until a booking form has been received along with a deposit of pp for residential retreats and pp for quiet days. 2. The final balance of the account is to be paid 1 month before the event. Failing receipt of this sum, the management will be at liberty to accept another booking. For bookings received less than 1 month in advance, fee to be paid in full. 3. The deposit is non-returnable, but will, of course, be deducted from the final account. 4. The prior agreement of the warden is required before any items may be offered for sale on the premises by visiting groups or individuals. 5. The individual will hold full responsibility for the financial arrangements and thus it is his/her responsibility to ensure he/she is in possession of the correct rates for the dates in question. 6. The House does not accept any consequential losses following the failure of the individual or organiser of a group to comply with the above mentioned terms and conditions.
