In light of the recent police-involved incidents, one Heartland community pulled together Sunday morning to honor local law enforcement. KTVO's Stephen Sealey attended church in Ottumwa to see how the Christian community supports authority figures. "I want you to know something, if you guys need anything let us know. We are not millionaires but, we can do a little," said Lead Pastor of First Pentecostal Assembly of God Richard Schlotter. Pastor Richard Schlotter of the First Pentecostal Assembly of God in Ottumwa treated new and current members of his church to a sermon on authority and law enforcement. "The Word of God says they are there to protect the righteous," Pastor Schlotter said. His passionately worded message was filled with appreciation towards Heartland law enforcement whom were pleased with the service. "Very delighted we got an invitation and that this congregation recognizes all the hard work law enforcement does," said Wapello County Sheriff Mark Miller. Even if it's not politically correct, said the Pastor, it is still the Word of God. "We support them, and we wanted to know that regardless of what other people think, that we're on their side, on their team and we got their back," Pastor Schlotter said. Church-goers were asked to take a prayer pledge to show law enforcement support: "That family then gets a certificate that says "I pledge to cover this officer with prayer the way they cover me with their protection," Pastor Schlotter said. When asked what should be done to ease the tension people have towards authority figures, Pastor Schlotter said there is a simple plan. "We want to take God's position. His position is to respect them, to pray for them, to honor them and to obey them," Pastor Schlotter said. "They have to make gut decisions in an instant. That's why friends, it's so important to be covering them with prayer," Pastor Schlotter said.

This is the Sunday we recognize all students leaving the children s ministry and going on to youth ministry. 7th graders must go on, and 6th graders have the choice of staying in children s ministry one more year or go on to youth ministry as 6th graders. Parents please discuss with your 6th grader what he or she would like to do. Then whatever your child decides, he or she must stay in that ministry and not go back and forth between classes or events. Please let Pastor Lisa know what you have decided. If you have a child going into Kindergarten, August 21 is the last Sunday for them to attend preschool in the basement. BACK TO SCHOOL WATER FUN NIGHT WEDNESDAY AUGUST 24. Girls Ministries and Royal Rangers will be starting again after a summer off. We will be having a water slide, snacks, drinks, and water balloon fight from 7-8pm for children in K 6th Grade. Bring your swimsuit, towel, and a friend!
