1 602 Morgan Blvd. Harlingen, TX October 2014 Stephen Ministry is a way for congregations to provide high-quality care and outreach to hurting people in the congregation and community. Stephen Ministers are congregation members who go through 50 hours of Christian caregiving training. Each Stephen Minister is then matched with a hurting person- men are paired with men, women with women- and meets with that person weekly to listen, care, pray, and encourage. Caring relationships last for as long as the need persists. Stephen Ministers care for those dealing with grief, divorce, job loss, hospitalization, financial struggles, loneliness, convalescence, terminal illness, and other life difficulties. For more information, please contact Pastor Kear at the church office, (956) Our next welcome of New Members to the body of Christ here at St. Paul is scheduled for the weekend of October 4 th & 5 th. Joining us that weekend will be those who have gone through our recent "Foundations" new member class, as well as others from past classes and those transferring from sister congregations. If you are in one of these categories and have not yet contacted Pastor Wendorf or the church office, please do so as soon as possible so that we can make sure to include you as a part of this day. All women of St. Paul are invited to a special Fall Rally Event with other Lutheran ladies from the RGV on October 5 th at El Buen Pastor Lutheran Church in McAllen. A group of ladies from St. Paul will meet to carpool together at church at 1:45PM. The event starts with registration at 2:30PM. For more information please contact the church office. Our next class will be on Sunday, October 12, 11:45AM 1:00PM in the Parish Hall. Don t forget to register and turn in checks ASAP for our upcoming Beach Retreat, October 24 th 26 th at South Padre Island. It will be an amazing weekend retreat in God's Word and in fellowship with Lutheran Youth from the RGV! We will leave in the early evening of the 24 th and return by 11:30ish on Sunday the 26 th so that the youth can be picked up right after worship that day. 2 Page 2 The current annual subscriptions to the Lutheran Witness magazine will expire on December 31, If you are a subscriber and wish to continue receiving the monthly magazine or would like to subscribe, please contact the church office by October 15 th. Each subscription is $12.65 per year. Please make your check payable to St. Paul Lutheran. The next Ladies Aid meeting will be on Saturday, October 11 in the Parish Hall. All ladies of the congregation are invited to attend. Monday mornings at 6:30AM, Men of Prayer of St. Paul gather in the church library to begin the work week with prayer. You are invited to join us for a time of lifting up the people of our community and giving thanks to God for all his blessings. Our new season of Sunday morning Bible Time with our Preschool - 5 th Graders is well under way! All children this age are invited to join us as we go on a "Kingdom Quest" with fantastic activities, live Bible story actors, puppets, crafts, and games all centered around God's Word! If the children you love haven't had the opportunity to experience this great ministry join us this Sunday to get a taste of the Kingdom! The fun happens each Sunday morning from 9:15AM-10:15AM in our classrooms of Great Beginnings on the campus of St. Paul Church. Look for the signs and greeters ready to welcome you to "Kingdom Quest" to begin your adventure! ALTAR GUILD Altar Guild is open to women at St. Paul Lutheran Church who would like to serve. The members work on a team approximately one hour each Saturday morning for a month, 3 months during the year, on a rotating basis. Some of the basic duties are preparing and setting up communion before services and clearing after services, changing altar paraments (following church calendar) and filling the backs of the pews with envelopes, attendance and prayer request cards. It is a rewarding experience. If you would like to get involved in serving in this capacity, please contact Barbara Grass: (956) The youth group meetings on Sunday nights from 6-8PM have been working their way through the fundamentals of our faith and practice. Lutheranism 101 is the book we are using to discuss, learn, and strengthen our understanding of the solid foundation of our faith. We invite all confirmed youth to join us on Sunday nights. If you would like to provide food, get involved in any way, or simply just want to come sit in with us, we would love to have you! 2

The electrical work is almost completed and the only things left is to purchase the new screen, projector and monitor.
