1 The Newsletter of United Methodist Church I have always loved "Winnie the Pooh". I love Tigger with his irrepressible "hoo-hoo-hoo-hooo!" and his bouncing here, there and everywhere. There is the Winnie the Pooh character I love to imitate Eeyore! The lovably depressed donkey who lives with his head down, in an ever-present gloom. Personally, I'd rather be Tigger than Eeyore; even if I can t bounce like I used to. But I want to be the one who leaves sunshine in the room, not storm clouds. However, that's not so easy to do. There's plenty of things in the world to make us Eeyores. Overfilled schedules and grumpy people, medical battles and family tension, sleepless nights compounded with aggravating pain and agitating people! But there is an antidote Thanksgiving, or actually - giving thanks. That is the difference between being a joybringer or a joy-killer. The Pilgrims exemplify that difference! The Pilgrims dug seven times more graves than homes. They were more impoverished than any other American, and they still set aside a day of thanksgiving. There's Thanksgiving the holiday, and then there's thanks-living, the lifestyle! A person can choose to go through life and see all the storm clouds in life - be an Eeyore; or choose to be the one who leaves energy, light and ultimately blessings like Tigger. That enables you to live - not in denial of the bad stuff - but celebrating the goodness of God all around you - if you have eyes to see it. Henry Ward Beecher, a pastor, social reformer, and well known for his support of the abolition of slavery and lived in the late 1800s. He once said: "The unthankful heart... discovers no mercies; but let the thankful heart sweep through the day and, as a magnet finds the iron, so it will find, in every hour, some heavenly blessings!" Blessings are always present! In the smile of a friend or the laughter of a child, having a roof over your head and food in the fridge, to a car that runs and a job that allows you to pay your bills, as well as the person who cares. These are all blessings of God, and blessings to thank God for. Actually, thanks-living is not just an option for a follower of Jesus. We are always told in 1 Thessalonians 5:16,18 to "Always be joyful" - how am I going to do that? "Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you who belong to Jesus". This means to look at life through the filter of blessings, which leads to joy which comes from what's happening in your spirit, not your situation, and that is a path to the peace that banishes anxiety. Thanksliving comes from a faith that sees a God who's bigger than your biggest problem. Thanksgiving's a great time to become intentional about collecting blessings and not burdens. It s a great time to live "with gratitude in your hearts to God." And to "do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him." (Colossians 3:16-17). For me, that thanks-living begins, not at a turkey-filled table, but at an old rugged cross where I experienced the love of Jesus - who took my hell, so I can spend forever in His heaven. Thanksgiving - and thanks-living - begins with the love that will never let me go. Let s choose to start thanks-living, and may your Thanksgiving be blessed! Pastor Bill

All of our ministry areas will be displayed for you to explore what we are doing in our church and in our community. Find an area that your are passionate about and learn how to plug in! GriefShare WiReD Usher Food Pantry His Kids Prayer Head to Heart Car Club Music Men Senior Program Preschool are going through difficult life situations. There are three different programs that allow us to serve very specific needs of children in our community. Duffels for Kids For children displaced from their home due to abuse, neglect, or a tragedy were sometimes pulled from dangerous situations with only 5 minutes to gather their belongings. They were often given a black trash bag to collect their things. Our hearts broke over this news so decided to help by offering them comfort and security by supplying them with a brand new duffel bag with personal care and comfort items. BlastPacks Have a Blast with Law Enforcement. Children with parents who are incarcerated often feel ashamed and vulnerable when visiting their parents and can be difficult for the children when they visit. Sometimes children wait in the lobby of the jail 45 minutes to 2 hours just to see their family member. These bags offer items to help pass the time for children and gives them a chance to interact with law en- forcement. Since launching Blast Packs in December 2013, we have given away over 700 bags. New Beginnings The fastest growing social justice issue in the United States is human trafficking. It affects more than 300,000 people nationwide and as an industry generates $30 billion annually. We provide bags for children recovered from human trafficking which include items that help with immediate needs as well as their long-term well being. Please prayerfully consider how you can bless this wonderful ministry.
