After the Resurrection, the Apostles experienced their fair share of incredulity. Jesus had died-john had been there-and now the tomb was empty. What should they believe? Was the Jesus before them truly real? And who was Jesus really? It's no surprise that the Apostles were initially "startled and terrified" to the extent that they "thought that they were seeing a ghost." Jesus has compassion on his confused friends. Once he affirms his non-ghostly identity--"look at my hands and my feet, that it is I myself"--jesus gets down to business. He has risen from the dead, but life would not continue as normal. Throughout Jesus' ministry, he spoke in parables and veiled prophetic language. His followers likely thought much of his words were metaphors, some symbolism for the person and their relation to God. Now Jesus has something else in mind. He "opened their minds to understand the scriptures," making known the connections between his own words and deeds and "everything written about [him] in the law of Moses and in the prophets and psalms." Why now? Why this increased depth of understanding? The answer lies in the shifting role of the Apostles. "You are witnesses of these things." The treasury of truth is no longer Jesus' responsibility alone but our own. Then and there, the Apostles are appointed to proclaim the death and resurrection of Jesus, the forgiveness of sins and the mercy of God. This message is no longer for only the Jewish people but "all the nations." This is our invitation! We have the rich heritage of the Church's teaching. By sacramental grace, God's "peace" is "with [us]." We, too, are sent to proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ and the hope that belongs to his call.

The Diocese of Pittsburgh is initiating the nomination and application process for admitting a new class of interested and qualified men from diocesan parishes into the Deacon Formation Program. Prospective applicants should consult Father Bob about submitting a nomination on their behalf. It is an opportunity to rest; to gain perspective; to slow down. You Are The Witness of These Things: To be a witness to something can have a double meaning. On one hand, a witness is someone who sees something occur, in order that they might tell others about it. On the other hand, a witness is one who testifies to something neither seen nor heard, yet nonetheless true. Unless we are nearly 2,000 years old, we are not witnesses in the first sense to the life, passion, death and resurrection of Jesus. Yet, by faith, we are witnesses in the second sense. By our baptism we are called to witness to the love of God through our words and actions which are to be reflections of the love of Jesus. In the coming weeks and months, the On Mission for The Church Alive! initiative will ask us to build new relationships with nearby parishes, an opportunity to witness to the love of God alive in our hearts. While this may seem like a burden to some, it is at the heart of the Christian life as we build up the Body of Christ, the Church. As we grow in love of others, may we treat them as if THEY are Christ, and treat them as if WE are Christ. Visit to learn more and to stay informed. ELIZABETH MINISTRY DONATIONS NEEDED The Elizabeth Ministry is in need of donations of new baby items for welcoming baskets! Suggestions are: unscented wipes, lotion, baby shampoo or bath, teething rings, washcloths & towels, small infant toys, toddler books, bibs, small picture frames, receiving blankets and clothing newborn to 6 mos. Please- NO baby powder, formula or foods. Thank you so much for your help! Donations may be left in the bin in the coat room marked Elizabeth Ministry. CHINESE AUCTION UPDATE It s time to get busy and help the Chinese Auction get ready for the Bazaar on August 12th. Your generosity helps the Chinese Auction to be a success each year! Our donation board is in the Narthex and you will see the theme is Please Chews to Help Fill the Baskets. Each gumball will be replaced with new ones weekly. Every gumball is designated for a theme basket. All gumballs range from $5-$50. We are on a budget, so the more you donate, the more money we will have to purchase bigger and nicer items. There is also a list of ideas for baskets and larger items of value on the table, if you would like to donate a whole basket or a larger item. Two things to keep in mind: 1.) you buy the items and the container and we will put the basket together for you (consider going in on a basket or item with another family or group). 2.) if you have an idea for a basket that not s on the sheet, please go for it! We love to see all ideas. It is really fun to shop, but if shopping isn t your thing, please consider a monetary donation or gift card. Both are greatly appreciated. The deadline for all donations is July 29th. Please try to get your donations in early. Donated items, of any kind, must be new and unopened. All donations welcome (except for clothing and home-made food items)! Please put all donations in the coat room in the Narthex. All monetary donations and gift cards can go to the parish office or in the collection basket. Please mark items Chinese Auction. Also donations of large baskets and containers are always needed. Our next meeting will be on April 18 at 6:30 pm in the Conference Room. Help is currently needed to assist with making phone calls, sending donation request letters and collecting items. Sacrament of Holy Matrimony To adequately prepare for this great sacrament that symbolizes the love of Christ for His Church, those wishing to be married are to contact Father Bob at least six months in advance of the proposed date. The couple must meet with the pastor before setting the date. The Diocese of Pittsburgh requires couples to attend a pre-marriage course. Please pray for the peaceful repose of the soul of Mary Joyce (Mother of Rev. Michael Joyce, O.F.M, Cap) who recently passed away and is enjoying everlasting life.

National Geographic Bee Congrats to David Krainbucher (6th grade), last week he competed in the state level National Geographic Bee in Harrisburg representing Holy Sepulcher Catholic School. INTRODUCTION TO THE DEVOUT LIFE What is Salesian Spirituality? The Christian humanist tradition flowing from St. Francis de Sales and St. Jane de Chantal is called Salesian Spirituality. Intended for all believers, it is especially appropriate for those living very busy lives. Salesian Spirituality challenges a person to be who you are and to be that well - not as angels but as good men and women. It is a spirituality for those who share lives with family, friends, and associates, those who choose to embrace the depths of the human heart, and those who choose to Live Jesus in this world. This class will be held on the following Thursdays : April 19, April 26, May 3, May 10, May 24, and May 31 at 10:00a.m. in John Paul II room and 6:30p.m. in the Early Childhood Center Conference Room. SCRIPTURE INSIGHT: In today s readings we hear that Christ is expiation for the sin of all the world and wants all the world to hear that message from his followers. Now that we are witnesses of all that has been said about Jesus, we must go out to preach repentance for the forgiveness of sin.

Last Call is targeted at all adult Catholics. WHY DO WE DO THAT? CATHOLIC LIFE EXPLAINED Q. A. Question: My friend has never heard of Christ and I want to share the Gospel with her but I'm afraid to. How do I share my faith? Answer: There are a lot of ways to bring up the topic of religion, without being judgmental or pushy. Begin by asking what her thoughts are about religion, or what her experience was growing up. Finding common ground is often easier than you think, because the questions and problems we have about God, the presence of evil, our purpose in life, and our relationship with God are universal concerns. Why are you afraid? If you do not want to insult or offend someone, don't be pushy or judgmental. If you are uncertain about how to explain your own faith, do a little reading or practice with a friend. If you measure success only by this person converting, focus your attention more on beginning the conversation, not on bringing it to a perfect close! Faith is a journey of many acts of belief, many discussions about God, and many choices about how we practice what we preach. In some we will have great success; in others we will need forgiveness and perseverance. The most important thing to keep in mind is that the Holy Spirit is always at work and our most humble efforts can bear great fruit. Have faith in God because he has faith in you!
