KATERI CHURCH IS AT NOON EVERY SUNDAY! MEMORIAL MASS FOR FR. VALENTINE BRADLEY At the 10:15 AM Mass this Sunday the Knights of Columbus commemorate the anniversary of Father Valentine Bradley's 1st Mass. This Mass is not only in memory of their Brother Knight but it will also be the dedication of the restored crucifixion painting in memory of our beloved Fr. Val. Refreshments will follow in the auditorium. ALL DAY ADORATION Our next All-day Adoration will be held this Monday, June 5th immediately following the 9:00 AM school Mass. It will close at 2:00 PM. MISSIONARY PRIEST VISITS ST. JOHN S PARISH Next weekend, all of our Masses at St. John and St. Kateri will be celebrated by a Mission Appeal priest. Please make welcome, Fr. James from Ghana. He will share his mission story and inform us how the missionary appeal helps the needs of his country. Please use the Missionary Cooperative envelopes that were in your May packet to make your donations. Also, extra envelopes will be available on the registers next weekend. Some Facts: The Catholic Diocese of Techiman is in Ghana, a missionary Country in West Africa. It was created on December 28, The diocese has 25 parishes/quasi parishes with 39 native priests serving in various pastoral capacities. The priests with their few missionary co-workers rely heavily on the 314 catechists in the diocese in serving this huge population of over 904,000 people of which over 90,000 are Catholics. There are no school buildings or church buildings in this very poor rural diocese. The inhabitants are mostly peasant farmers with no portable water. Water related diseases and child mortality are very high. Getting clean water to serve the population would require 100 mechanized boreholes of which there are only 25. RECTORY OFFICE NEW SUMMER HOURS Please note that beginning this, the first week of June, our rectory office hours will change. The office will be open Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday all day from 8:30 AM until 5:30 PM. On Thursdays, the office will be open from 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM. On Fridays the rectory office will be closed. Please try to call during those business hours unless you have an emergency for Father George to address. BAPTISM PREPARATION CLASS A Baptism Preparation Class will be held this Sunday, June 4th from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM in the rectory basement. This class is for any first-time parents from St. John s and from St. Kateri Parish. The next class is scheduled for Sunday, September 10th. For any questions regarding the class, please call the rectory or Deacon Tom at or him at stboldin@verizon.net. PARISH PICNIC SCHEDULED FOR JUNE 11TH St. John s Parish Picnic will be held next Sunday, June 11th at Governor s Park! ALL ARE INVITED. We hope you and your family are planning to attend. The picnic will begin after the 10:15 AM Mass with lunch starting at noon. The church will provide hamburgers, hot dogs, condiments and drinks. If you want to bring a covered dish or a dessert to share -great; however, you don t have to. Bring your family to enjoy a free meal and a fun afternoon socializing with your fellow parishioners. Or just come for the Mass and enjoy America s best amusement park food! The 2017 Faith Day at DelGrosso s Amusement Park in Tipton will be held on Sunday, July 2nd. Highlights of the day will include Liturgy with Bishop Mark at 3:00 PM & a picnic in the diocesan pavilion at 5:00 PM. The Park has more than 30 different park rides and games. They also have water slides and Laguna Splash, including a wave pool and the Lazy River. All day Fun Passes are available for a reduced price of $20 (normally $29.95) w ith a diocesan Faith Day voucher. $3.00 of each pass purchased will be donated back to the Angel Fund for Camp Zacchaeus and Camp Timothy. Meal tickets are also available for the Diocesan Picnic in Pavilion #2 at $8.50 adults & $7.50 for a child. Do You have a special dessert that you are known for? Then you need to enter it in the 2017 Faith Day Dessert Contest! Any dessert qualifies: pies, cakes, cookies, cupcakes, etc. Winners will be awarded with a 1st, 2nd and 3rd Place Ribbon. First Prize winner will also receive a Deluxe Baker s Gift Basket. To enter a dessert, you must complete a registration form and return it to the Diocesan Youth Ministry Office. To purchase a discounted All-Day Fun Pass, meal tickets, or obtain a registration form for the dessert contest or for more information, please contact the rectory office at or Francine Swope in the Diocesan Youth Ministry Office at Forms are also available at St. John s in Stitches PROJECT FOR THE POOR IN HAITI St. John s in Stitches Sewing Group is currently working on a Project to assist the very poor in Haiti. They are collecting various items such as school supplies, crayons, barrettes, head/hair bands, toiletries, small balls, small toys, matchbox cars, etc. The items will be collected throughout the summer months. There is a box in the back of the church to place your donations if you would like to join them in collecting some of the items. Visit their table with project items at our Parish Picnic next weekend. CATHOLIC MINISTRIES DRIVE Thank you for all those who have sent in your pledge or onetime gift payments to the 2017 Catholic Ministries Drive which is now underway. Your pledge envelopes, received from the Altoona-Johnstown Diocese can either be placed in the collection basket or mailed in or dropped off at the rectory office. Your donations and pledges will provide 100% of revenue to a specific group of vital ministries in the following three categories: Caring for the Poor & Strengthening Families; Nurturing Our Youth and Forming Clergy & Laity. These ministries are entirely dependent upon contributions received through the Catholic Ministries Fund. St. John s Parish has been given a target of $53,408 which is a 13.8% reduction from last year s goal. Only 1.5% of the total target goal will be budgeted for campaign expenses, and the fund will no longer support core administrative offices. Also, remember that our parish will not be assessed if our target is not reached and ALL contributions exceeding the parish s target amount will be refunded to the parish free from assessment. Fran, who participated in JustFaith says, During JustFaith, I enjoyed reading, seeing thought provoking videos, listening to speakers from our community, and having wide ranging discussions on Catholic social teaching. JustFaith changed my perspective on social justice issues and I was privileged to learn from and get to know on a deeper level some special members of our parish. You are invited to be part of this new group forming and to participate in JustFaith which will begin in September. An informational meeting will be held on June 20 at 7:30 PM and on July 16 from 10:15-11:00 AM (between Masses) in the Great Spirit Room (medium conference room) at Good Shepherd Catholic Church in State College. FOUR PILLARS GOLF TOURNAMENT Saint Joseph's Catholic Academy will present The Four Pillars Golf Tournament on Friday, June 23rd at the Toftrees Golf Resort in State College. Registration begins at 11:30 AM with the Shotgun Start at 12:30 PM. The dinner is at 5:30 PM. Beer, soft drinks and snacks will be available during the play. The buffet features The Field Burgers and Signature Fries and more. There will be prizes and a social following the golf plays. SUMMER OFFICE HOURS St. John School ends for summer break on Monday, June 5 with an 11:00 AM dismissal. Although we will be working all summer, our office will be open for visitors on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 9 AM to 12:00 noon. Other times may be scheduled by appointment. Also, there will be no office hours the week of July 3. Scrip gift certificate summer sales will be available only during the above hours. Feel free to leave a message at since we will be answering phones and scheduling appointments throughout the week. KINDERGARTEN & PRE-K REGISTRATION FOR If you are interested in registering a student for either Kindergarten or Pre-K, please call as soon as possible. Both programs have very limited openings available. FIRST COMMUNION PICTURES If you had a child who recently made his/her First Communion, and If you ordered a picture from Sue*nique Photography, please pick up your pictures at the Rectory during regular office hours. Please note the new rectory summer office hours. ************************************************************************* HEALING MASS There is a Healing Mass scheduled for this Tuesday, June 6th at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament. It will begin at 7:00 PM and Fr. Bill Kiel from he Diocese of Greensburg will be he main celebrant. All are welcome to attend, especially those in need of physical, emotional or spiritual healing and those who support and care for them as well. Music for the Mass will be led by the Cathedral Charismatic Prayer Group Music Ministry. For more information, please call THE LION KING JR. MUSICAL PRESENTATION The Lion King Jr. Musical will be presented this Saturday, June 10 th at 6:30 PM. It will be held in Our Lady of Victory Auditorium by the Kennedy Dance Centre Junior Musical Theatre Class. This presentation will benefit Fr. Ralph s Children of Beyin- Ghana at the Holy Name of Mary Academy. Admission is $5.00 per person. Tickets will be available at the door on the night of the performance.

5 VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL BEGINS THIS MONDAY If you didn t sign your child up, no problem...they can still attend any or all of the Vacation Bible School classes. So if you have a child in Kindergarten through grade 5, please consider bringing your student in on Mondays during the month of June from 6:00 PM 8:00 PM. The classes are held in St. John School Auditorium and the FIRST CLASS IS THIS MONDAY, JUNE 5. Moms and Dads, here is a great way for your young ones to enjoy a fun evening in the summer and also learn more about their faith. The theme for this year s Bible study is Marian Apparitions. Also, if you can t travel across the Atlantic for a pilgrimage, there are two Pilgrimage in a Day events planned with the Franciscan Friars at Mount Assisi monastery in Loretto, PA. This is a great opportunity for a once-ina-lifetime spiritual experience in honor of Our Lady of Fatima. These two Pilgrimages are scheduled for next Tuesday, June 13th and for Sunday, August 13th. Each Pilgrimage begins at 11:00 AM and concludes at 8:30 PM. The cost is $35 for anyone age 12 and over; under age 12, the cost is $20. The deadline for the August Pilgrimage is July 30th. STATE COLLEGE COUNCIL K of C BLOOD DRIVE The Knights of Columbus #4678 of State College & The American Red Cross are holding a Blood Drive at 850 Stratford Drive in State College.
