JOHN S PARISH PICNIC REPORT God certainly blessed us with a beautiful day for our parish picnic last Sunday! We had a nice turnout of many families and kids to enjoy LOTS of food, fellowship & fun. Thank you to all those who attended and filled our pavilion at Governor s Park. Thank you especially to Sam Brezler for his expert job in barbequing our delicious hot dogs and hamburgers and for all his prep work. Thanks also to our serving helpers: Lucy & Paula Brezler, Doreen Koleno, Lucia Stover, John & Yvonne Coll, Shirley Boldin and Ed Mulfinger. We extend a grateful thank you to all our parishioners who purchased the cash raffle tickets which made our only fund raiser for the year, a huge success! Our profit was over $7,000.00! W e appreciate the help of Jim & Nancy Swartzell and Rose Schlegel in March for preparing the envelopes for our ticket mailing that went out to all our parishioners. The lucky winners of the Cash Raffle drawing are as follow s: Terry N eidigh, 1st prize of $500; Joe Alterio, 2nd prize of $350; Lorna Maloy 3rd prize of $250; Adam Herzing, 4th prize of $150; and Joseph Schoch, 5th prize of $100. Congratulations! JUNE BINGO Our Knight of Columbus will hold the next evening of Bingo games this Tuesday, June 20th in St. John School Auditorium. The doors open at 6:00 PM for food and fellowship. The Bingo games begin at 7:00 PM. Come for an evening of fun and food and perhaps you will be one of the evening s winners. RECTORY OFFICE NEW SUMMER HOURS Please note that our rectory office now has new summer hours. The office will be open Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday all day from 8:30 AM until 5:30 PM. On Thursdays, the office will be open from 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM. On Fridays, the rectory office will be closed. LOOKING AHEAD: PARISH/FINANCE COUNCIL MEETINGS Our Parish and Finance Councils will meet on Thursday, July 6th at 6:30 PM and 7:30 PM respectively in the rectory basement. FIRST COMMUNION PICTURES ARE IN If you had a child who recently made his/her First Communion, and if you ordered pictures at that time from Sue*nique Photography, you can pick up your pictures at the Rectory office. Before stopping by, please note the new rectory summer office hours. BUS TRIP TO SEE PITTSBURGH PIRATES AT PNC PARK Our Lady of Victory Parish and friends are sponsoring a bus trip to attend the Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Milwaukee Brewers. It will be for the 12:35 PM game on Thursday, July 20th. The bus will leave from the OLV Church back parking lot at 7:30 AM. There will be a short stop at a McDonalds on the way. Field box seats in Section 117, which are undercover and are behind home base have been reserved. The total cost which includes the ticket fee and the bus ride is $69.00 per person. Payment is due at the time of your order. MEMORIAL DONATION RECEIVED St. John Church recently received a Memorial Donation in memory of Nancy Palfey. It w as given by Centre Crest Nursing Home. We appreciate your remembering St. John Church with Memorial gifts given in memory of family members, friends and loved ones. Blessings for your generosity. YOUTH GROUP BUS TRIP TO PITTSBURGH Our Regional Youth Group will be taking a trip to Pittsburgh by bus on Monday, June 26th. Students and their family members from St. John s and St. Kateri are encouraged to join those from Queen of Archangels Parish for this day trip. The day will start with Mass at 10:00 AM at St. Anthony Reliquary Chapel at 1704 Harpster Street in Pittsburgh. After Mass there will be a tour of the Reliquary Chapel with over 5,000 relics of the saints to explore. From the Chapel, the group will proceed to the National Aviary at 700 Arch Street. Admission is only $10 per person (Cash or check made payable to Queen of Archangels Parish.) You may want to bring along extra money for the food court at the Aviary and to purchase gifts and souvenirs. If you are a certified chaperone with the diocese and would like to attend, chaperones go for free. If you are able to chaperone, please contact Fr. Mike Wolfe at (814) Consider bringing the whole family along for this Youth Trip. There is a 47 passenger bus reserved that we can fill! If you have questions regarding this trip, please contact Deacon Tom and Shirley Boldin at FAITH DAY 2017 AT DELGROSSO S PARK Come and join Catholics from across the Diocese to celebrate our faith and enjoy a day of great rides and slides at DelGrosso s Waterpark! Or just come for the Mass and enjoy America s best amusement park food! This 2017 Faith Day at DelGrosso s Amusement Park in Tipton will be held on Sunday, July 2nd. Highlights of the day will include Liturgy with Bishop Mark at 3:00 PM & a picnic in the diocesan pavilion at 5:00 PM. The Park has more than 30 different park rides and games. They also have water slides and Laguna Splash, including a wave pool and the Lazy River. All day Fun Passes are available for a reduced price of $20 (normally $29.95) with a diocesan Faith Day voucher. $3.00 of each pass purchased will be donated back to the Angel Fund for Camp Zacchaeus and Camp Timothy. Meal tickets are also available for the Diocesan Picnic in Pavilion #2 at $8.50 adults & $7.50 for a child. Do You have a special dessert that you are known for? Then you need to enter it in the 2017 Faith Day Dessert Contest! Any dessert qualifies: pies, cakes, cookies, cupcakes, etc. Winners will be awarded with a 1st, 2nd and 3rd Place Ribbon. First Prize winner will also receive a Deluxe Baker s Gift Basket. To enter a dessert, you must complete a registration form and return it to the Diocesan Youth Ministry Office. They are collecting various items such as school supplies, crayons, barrettes, head/hair bands, toiletries, small balls, small toys, matchbox cars, etc. The items will be collected throughout the summer months. There is a box in the back of the church to place your donations if you would like to join them in collecting some of the items. 4 PIXIE DUST WISHES During the month of May, we collected Pennies for Pixie Dust Wishes, and all our Dress Down monies for May were also donated toward this cause. The mission of this non-profit is to grant Disney wishes to children and individuals with special needs/disabilities. Many of our parents shared their child s excitement and enthusiasm about making a wish come true for a child with special needs by contacting Pixie Dust Wishes with their personal stories. Thank you SO very much for your participation in Pennies for Pixie Dust. We raised $ and helped Pixie Dust Wishes be that much closer to being able to grant their first wish! More information about this organization can be found at All Dress Down monies for May will also were donated toward this cause. GIANT A+ PROGRAM This program ended at the end of March, bringing our Giant A+ total donation for the year to $1, Thank you to those who registered their Giant Bonuscards so that we were able to earn cash for our school. ST. JOHN SCHOOL SUMMER OFFICE HOURS St. John School is on summer break. Although we will be working all summer, our office will be open for visitors on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 9:00 AM to 12:00 noon. Other times may be scheduled by appointment. Also, please note that there will be no office hours the week of July 3. Scrip gift certificate summer sales will be available only during the above hours. JOSEPH S CATHOLIC ACADEMY SEEKS EDUCATORS St. Joseph s Catholic Academy in Boalsburg is seeking qualified educators for two part-time positions for the academic year. One position is for a visual arts educator to teach drawing, painting, studio art and video imaging. A teaching certification is preferred, but not required. The second position is for a qualified foreign-language educator to teach Spanish. A teaching certification is preferred, as would the ability to teach a second foreign language. CONCERT INVITATIONS Trinity United Methodist Church in Bellefonte has sent out an invitation to attend their Special Father s Day Concert this Sunday, June 18th at 3:00 PM. The Artists include the International String Trio of Alma Bulibekova, Violin of Kazakhstan; Fabio Saggin, Viola of Brazil; and Mirna Lazic, Cello of Croatia. Trinity United Methodist Church is located at 148 West Howard Street at the corner of West Howard and North Spring (across from Wetzlers). There is free admission and free parking in the municipal lot behind the church. A reception to meet the Artists follows the concert. Artist bios are on the website at trinitybellefonte.com under 'events'. Another free concert will be held on Sunday, July 9th also at 3:00 PM featuring artist, Noah Breneman, Oboist, with Joanne Yang, Piano. He was the featured soloist at the 2016 Mosaic Concert as an award-winning performer.

5 VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL BEGINS THIS MONDAY If you didn t sign your child up, no problem...they can still attend either or both of the remaining two Vacation Bible School classes. So if you have a child in Kindergarten through grade 5 (or older if they want to come) please consider bringing your student in on these Mondays during the month of June from 6:00 PM 8:00 PM. The classes are held in St. John School Cafeteria. Moms and Dads, here is a great way for your young ones to enjoy a fun evening in the summer and also learn more about their faith. CD of A ANNUAL AWARDS PRESENTED At the recent 97th anniversary festivities of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court Rev. Patrick McArdle #448, the Catholic Daughters presented their annual awards. Gerry Dreese was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award and Julie Walker was awarded The Catholic Daughter of the Year Award. Both Gerry and Julie are very worthy of these awards and we congratulate them and pray for God's Blessings on them. Please join us in congratulating these fine ladies for their dedication and service to church and community. CD of A DIAPER DRIVE FOR THE GABRIEL PROJECT The Gabriel Project is a Pro-Life movement that helps mothers in crisis pregnancies by offering unconditional love and by meeting their practical needs. The need for disposable diapers of all sizes is ongoing. The CD of A Diaper Drive continues throughout the year. Place your donations in the back of the church. Also, if you can t travel across the Atlantic for a pilgrimage, there is a Pilgrimage in a Day event planned with the Franciscan Friars at Mount Assisi monastery in Loretto, PA. This is a great opportunity for a once-ina-lifetime spiritual experience in honor of Our Lady of Fatima. This Pilgrimage is scheduled for Sunday, August 13th. It begins at 11:00 AM and concludes at 8:30 PM. The cost is $35 for anyone age 12 and over; under age 12, the cost is $20. The deadline for the August Pilgrimage is July 30th.
