SCOUT SUNDAY MASS Our area Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts and any troop leaders will be attending this Sunday s 10:15 AM Mass in acknowledgement of Scout Sunday. We are proud of all these boys and girls in their advancements, especially in their..duty to God. We also commend all their leaders who volunteer their time to mold these young people in solid community and faith values. THINK TANK The next Think-Tank Discussion Group will meet on Thursday, February 23rd at 7:00 PM in the rectory basement. The topic will be Latino Catholic Culture presented by Lucia Stover. Everyone is welcome to attend and to join in with this night of fellowship and discussion! LOOKING AHEAD TO MARCH Ash Wednesday is March 1st. Masses are scheduled for 9:00 AM and 7:00 PM. Extra Weekday Mass during Lent: Each Thursday in March at 6:00 PM Lenten Scripture Class*: Each Thursday at 6:30 PM during the Month of March. *This class will be taught by Fr. George in the school cafeteria. Extra Confessions: Every Friday at 6:00 PM during Lent (up to Holy Week). Stations of the Cross: Every Friday in Lent at 7:00 PM. Fish Fry: Also, every Friday afternoon in Lent (except Good Friday) we will hold our annual Fish Fry in the school auditorium. More info will be forthcoming on this in next weekend s bulletin. Watch for details! LATIN MASS DAY AND TIME CHANGE Please note: Starting next month, the Latin Mass day and time will change. Our Latin Mass will now be celebrated on the second Sunday of each month at Noon. So mark your calendars: The next scheduled Latin Mass will be on Sunday, March 12th at 12:00 PM (Noon). COMPASSIONATE FRIENDS SUPPORT GROUP MEETING The Compassionate Friends Group is a national non-profit organization which offers understanding, friendship and hope to bereaved families and friends following the death of a child of any age. The Bellefonte Chapter of this group has recently changed its monthly meetings date. They will now be meeting on the second Monday of every month. The meetings will be held from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM here at St. Johns in the rectory basement. This month s meeting will be held this Monday, February 13th. HEALING THROUGH FAITH GROUP MEETING Our next group gathering for Healing Through Faith will be held this Tuesday, February 14th at 9:00 AM. This group lends mutual support to anyone suffering the loss of loved ones. By caring and sharing, we are aided in the grieving/healing process. BAPTISM PREPARATION CLASS SCHEDULED Deacon Tom will hold the next Baptism Preparation Class on Sunday, March 5th. It will be held in the rectory basement from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM. This class is for all parents wanting to have their child baptized at either St. John or St. Kateri Church. The class is a requirement of the diocese for all parents, and hopefully, godparents, if they are local, to attend. Only a onetime class is required if you have additional children. For any questions, please call the rectory or Deacon Tom at or him at stboldin@verizon.net. ANNUAL LENTEN BREAKFASTS/SERVICES The Lenten season is only a little more than two weeks away. Here s one way to enrich your Lenten journey: Attend one, some or all of the scheduled Lenten breakfasts/services sponsored by the Council of Churches. This annual event will again be held at Trinity Methodist Church on Howard Street in Bellefonte. The service is from 7:00 7:45 AM each Wednesday morning beginning March 1st and running through April 5th. A light breakfast will be accompanied by an inspirational message given by a different local pastor each week. There is no charge to attend and reservations are not needed. Mark your calendars and plan to attend this weekly Lenten observation. If you have any questions please contact Frank Densevich at CATHOLIC CONFERENCE 4 WOMEN Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church is sponsoring a Catholic Conference especially 4 women of all ages. This conference will be held at OLV Catholic Church at 820 Westerly Parkway in State College. The Conference is scheduled for Saturday, February 25th from 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM. There is a 9:00 AM Mass which is optional to attend with registration at 9:45 AM. There will be video presentations, group discussions and breakfast and lunch will be provided. The cost is $10 if you register by next Sunday, February 19th, but $20 if you register on Monday, February 20th & after. The Theme of the Conference is Relationships. Have a friend sign up too and plan to spend a day 4 Women for some spiritual refreshment. THEOLOGY ON TAP SOCIAL NIGHT Theology on Tap is hosting a Social Night for all young adults ages 21 39ish. It will be held at Lettermans Sports Grill at 1031 E. College Ave. in State College. The date is Wednesday, February 15th from 7:00-9:00 PM. Bring along a friend and come out for a night filled with food, friends and fun! GIVE KIDS A SMILE & VISION FOR THE FUTURE EVENT This Event sponsored by Centre Volunteers in Medicine along with Pediatric Dental Care Associates, Nittany Eye Associates, Albrecht Audiology, Henry-Schein Dental, Vision Benefits of America and OPTOS Retinal Mapping aims to provide FREE dental care, vision care and hearing screenings to uninsured children in Centre County. To qualify, children must be residents of Centre County, have NO dental or vision insurance, have a family income at or below 250% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines ($60,750 for a family of 4), or qualify for free lunches. The Event will be held on Friday, April 7th and is by appointment only. It will be held at the Pediatric Dental Care and Nittany Eye Associates at 1019 Ghaner Road, Suite A in Port Matilda. 4 MEMORIALS & DONATIONS The January school collection was $2, Now that our celebration of National Catholic Schools Week is over, Fr. George, Mrs. Tice, and the faculty, staff and students wish to thank the families, parishioners and friends who helped make our week special. We would like to say an extra special thank you to Amy Clark for coordinating another great Catholic Schools Week. We are grateful to her and the volunteers who worked with her for helping us to celebrate our wonderful school, students, parents, teachers and community. STATIONS OF THE CROSS Parishioners are invited to join St. John School as we pray the Stations of the Cross each Friday at 1:00 PM during Lent. The only exception will be during Holy Week when there will be no School Stations at 1:00 PM on Good Friday. During Holy Week, our 4 th Grade Class will present two Live Stations of the Cross, one on Wednesday, April 12 at 10:00 AM, and the other on Good Friday at 7:00 PM. KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION FOR Registration forms can be found online at and will be accepted through February 15. Children must be five years old before September 1, 2017, to be eligible for Kindergarten. To register, please be sure to bring birth certificate, baptismal certificate, immunization records and a $75 non-refundable registration fee. These classes are for students in Kindergarten through 10th grades. K of C MONTHLY ALL-YOU-CAN-EAT BREAKFAST The Knights of Columbus of Bellefonte will hold their monthly ALL-YOU-CAN-EAT BREAKFAST next Sunday, February 19th. This breakfast starts at 8:30 AM and will be served until Noon at the Knights Hall on Stoney Batter In addition to their full menu which includes Bacon, Eggs, Sausage, Potatoes, French Toast, Pancakes, Waffles, Sausage Gravy, Oatmeal, Hot Syrup, Juice, Fruit, Coffee, Tea and Hot Chocolate, they have added Scrapple. They will also prepare, upon request, blueberry and chocolate chip pancakes, and over-easy or sunny side eggs. The cost is still only $8.00 for adults, children under 12 eat for $4.00 while children under 6 eat for Free. PSU SEEKS VOLUNTEERS FOR RESEARCH STUDY The PSU Department of Nutritional Sciences is conducting a study on the benefits of walnuts. If you meet the following criteria, you could volunteer to participate and also receive a compensation of $450 upon completion of the study: Are you years of age? Is your BMI kg/m 2? Check with online calculators. You are not taking medication for high cholesterol, blood pressure or diabetes. You have no inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease. You are a non-smoker, not vegetarian & weight stable. You are not allergic to nuts. Do you feel you are in good health but have concerns about your blood pressure? Can you commit to eating test diets for three 6-week periods with daily meal pick-ups on the PSU campus? This 24-week controlled-feeding study is designed to examine the effects of walnuts on cholesterol, blood pressure, arterial stiffness and other cardiovascular risk factors. You will be provided with all food and some beverages for 20 weeks which includes 3 meals and a snack every day.
