JOHN VIANNEY RELIC PILGRIMMAGE The Diocese of Altoona-Johnstown has been selected to participate in the St. John Vianney Relic Pilgrimage. On Thursday, January 31, 2019, the relic of St. John Vianney (his entire incorrupt heart) will be in the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament. It will be placed there at the conclusion of the 6:45 AM Mass and remain throughout the day. The usual Mass schedule at the Cathedral (8:00 AM and 12:00 noon) will be observed and there will be a concelebrated Mass at 5:30 PM. The relic will remain in the Cathedral for a short time after Mass for private veneration (until about 7:30 PM). There will be opportunities to receive the Sacrament of Penance/Reconciliation throughout the day. FREE BUS TRANSPORTATION TO ST JOHN VIANNEY RELIC The Bellefonte & State College Knights of Columbus together are sponsoring a bus to the Cathedral on the 31st. The bus will pick up in Bellefonte at St. John s at 2:30 PM. They plan to attend the 5:30 PM Mass and return back to State College and Bellefonte after Mass. The bus is FREE, but space is limited. Please call the rectory to reserve your seat RELIGIOUS EDUCATION There will be no CCD Class on Sunday, January 27th due to the Catholic Schools Week Mass. CCD will resume Sunday, February 3rd. CCD MASS The next CCD Mass will be Sunday, February 3rd at 10:15 AM. The 7th & 8th grades will be participating in the liturgy. Students are reminded to please sit with your class. ANNUAL KLUB COLUMBO MEETING The Annual Klub Columbo Meeting will be Sunday, February 3, 2019, at 6:00 PM at the Knights of Columbus Hall on Stoney Batter Rd. Super Bowl Party to follow the meeting. JOHN S IN STITCHES St. John s in Stitches will meet Monday, January 28th from 1:00-3:00 PM in the rectory basement. A short meeting will follow the crafting at 3:00. We will be cutting fabric for skirts and dresses for a Haiti project and tying fleece blankets. No sewing skills are required! Come and join us if you desire to help others. FEAST OF ST. BLAISE The Feast of St. Blaise, Bishop and Martyr, is Sunday, February 3, Blessing of Throats will take place during all Masses February 2nd and 3rd. St. Blaise is the patron saint of people with diseases of the throat. On St. Blaise s feast day, many parishes bless the throats of their parishioners in a special ceremony. Two unlit candles are held near each person s throat as the priest or deacon says, Through the intercession of Saint Blaise, bishop and martyr, may God deliver you from every disease of the throat and from every other illness: In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. We consider St. John the Evangelist Parish an important part of our community, and we hope you will join us as we celebrate our Catholic education this week. Everyone is welcome to attend the Open House in our school, immediately after this weekend s 10:15 Mass. OPERATION GRATITUDE Saying Thank You to All Who Serve Our students provided 53 letters to be included in Operation Gratitude Care Packages of snacks, hygiene products, entertainment and hand-made items that will be sent to men and women deployed overseas, their children awaiting their return, and to Veterans, New Recruits, First Responders and Wounded Heroes and their Care Givers. This wonderful organization provides much-deserved support to these brave fellow citizens. We are very proud of our students excitement and willingness to provide these Thank You For Your Service patriotic expressions of love and concern. GARDNERS EASTER CANDY St. John School will be selling Gardners Easter Candy. Order forms will be included in the church bulletin the weekend of February 16 & 17. Just as in past years, the candy will be sold at the same price as it is sold in the store, so save yourself some time and order through the school. We appreciate your support! KINDERGARTEN AND PRE-K REGISTRATION FOR Registration forms can be found online at We will accept registration forms beginning Monday, January 28, and continuing through February 15. Children must be five years old before September 1, 2019 to be eligible for Kindergarten. You must bring birth certificate, baptismal certificate, immunization records and a $100 non-refundable fee with you to register. For more information about our Kindergarten program or to schedule a tour with the Principal, please call Mrs. Wendt in the school office. Children must be three or four years old before September 1, 2019 to be eligible for the three-year-old and four-year-old Pre-K Program, respectively. Students currently enrolled in the threeyear-old Pre-K must re-register for the four-year-old class. This class is for first time parents from both St. John and St. Kateri parishes. Godparents are encouraged to attend. If you have taken this class with other children, you are not required to take it again. Congratulations! The next step is to attend Marriage Preparation classes. These required classes consist of three 2 ½ hour sessions and are led by married couples, a priest or deacon. (There are no marriage prep weekends scheduled in our diocese at this time) The cost per couple is $70. There are several classes offered in January through May in Altoona, Johnstown, Lily and Somerset.
