CD OF A - AN EVENING WITH MARY The Spiritual Enhancement Committee of our Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court cordially invites all parishioners to An Evening With Mary. It will be held in the St. John School Auditorium this Monday, May 23rd from 6:00 8:00 PM. The evening will include devotions and hymns to pay homage to Mary, Help of Christians. It will conclude with the recitation of the rosary (rosaries will be provided) at the outside statue of the Blessed Mother in front of the school, if weather permits. Light refreshments will be provided in the auditorium immediately following the devotions. Please join the Catholic Daughters for this Month of May Devotion to Mary. Everyone is welcome. ST. JOHN GRADUATING SENIORS St. John s graduating senior are being honored at a special breakfast this Sunday after the 8:00 AM Mass. We wish to Congratulate them on their hard work and accomplishments and ask your prayers for them and their continued years of success. They are as follows: Meghan E. HEALING MASS AT THE CATHEDRAL THIS MONDAY There will be a Healing Mass held at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament in Altoona this Monday, May 23rd at 7:00 PM. The main celebrant will be Fr. Bill Kiel. This special Mass is offered for all in need of physical, emotional or spiritual healing and those who support them. Music for the Mass will be led by the Cathedral Charismatic Prayer Group Music Ministry. This class is for all parents wanting to have their child baptized either here at St. John s Parish or at St. Kateri Parish. This class is a requirement of the diocese that all parents and hopefully, godparents, if they are local, will attend. Our Sewing Group, St. John s In Stitches will be meeting this Monday afternoon, May 23rd at 3:30 PM. Due to other conflicting activities, please note the time change from what was published last week. Please also note that this will be the last meeting scheduled for the group until September, so the members can enjoy a summer break. The ladies are always working on various projects and the group is open to anyone interested in sewing, knitting, crocheting or working with crafts, etc. New members are always welcome and they currently are especially in need of additional sew-ers. KID S VACATION BIBLE STUDY Moms and Dads, there is a signup sheet in the back of the church to sign your child up for Vacation Bible School here at St. John s. This is a great way for your young sons and daughters to enjoy a fun evening in the summer and also learn more about their faith! It will be held every Monday evening in June from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM in St. John s School Auditorium. The class will be conducted by Miss Jennifer Gill and her assistants and Jennifer has a lot of fun things planned. All students in Grades Kindergarten through Grade 5 are welcome to attend. And kids, feel free to bring along a friend if you like. The first class is June 6th. Join The Bald Eagle Park naturalist in learning how to use a GPS unit and to discover the intriguing world of geocaching! Young children may require the assistance of an adult to participate. We celebrated the Diocese of Altoona-Johnstown s diaconate ordination of Peter Crowe and Jonathan Dickson on Saturday, May 14 th. Later in the month, on Saturday, May 28 th, we will broadcast the ordination to deacon of Br. Canice McMullen, O.S.B. from the St. Vincent Archabbey Basilica beginning at 10:00 AM. In addition, WAOB is requesting extra pray-ers of the Divine Mercy Chaplet during this jubilee year. This is a reminder that there are Two Local Marriage Preparation Series Classes scheduled: One at Our Lady of Victory Parish in State College on Thursdays in June (June 2, 9 & 16) from 7:00 9:30 PM. And one here at St. John s on Tuesdays in October (October 4, 11 & 18) at 7:00 9:30 PM. The cost is $65 per couple which includes all sessions in a series. Preregistration is required. If you can t attend these, another session is available in another location in September. Sign up early since some series fill up months in advance. JOHN SCHOOL ANNUAL SPELLING BEE As announced in a previous bulletin, Cecilia Stanton was the winner of the St. John School Spelling Bee and would be participating in the diocesan spelling bee as our representative. We are so excited to announce that Cecilia not only attended and participated in the diocesan spelling bee, but she WON the diocesan spelling bee! Congratulations to Cecilia for working so hard and being such a wonderful representative of our school. We are so very proud of Cecilia! ST. JOHN SCHOOL REGISTRATION FOR As the school year winds down, we are finalizing our class registrations and beginning to order school supplies. SCHOOL COUNCIL As their term comes to an end, we would like to thank Colleen Cingle and David Smith for their service to St. John School as members of our School Council.
