There will be two Masses next Monday, November 2 nd at 9:00AM and 7:00 PM. At the 7:00 PM Mass we will read the names of all parishioners who have died this past year. HEALING THROUGH FAITH GROUP A new group has begun at St. John s for anyone grieving. The group will meet the second Tuesday of each month at 9:00 AM in the rectory basement. Come join the discussion with Father George. All are welcome. NO ALL- DAY ADORATION ON NOVEMBER 2 Please note that there WILL NOT BE an All-Day Adoration on Monday, November 2nd since this is All Souls Day and we have two Masses scheduled for your attendance. OCTOBER DEVOTIONS On Tuesdays in October starting at 7:00 PM we will have traditional devotions in honor of the Blessed Mother including one half hour of Adoration with the Rosary being said for a specific intention and closing with Benediction. Then, immediately following, there will be a talk held in the church on a different Saint each week. There will be an opportunity for questions and answers. Feel free to come for either/or both! ATTENTION CCD PARENTS: On the 1st Sunday of each month, the 10:15 AM Mass will be dedicated to different CCD classes whose students will be participating as the readers and assistants. On November 1st, which is All Souls Day, Kindergarten, First and Second graders may dress up as a Saint and process and the Fifth graders will be readers. Please try to attend and note that we ask all students in Grades K-5 to sit as a class along with their teachers in the designated front pews. CEMETERY NEWS As a reminder, we are not currently doing any pre-sale of lots as our cemetery is full. There are plots available for cremation only, with space for 2 people s remains in a plot and only a flat tombstone is permitted. Those are available at the time of someone s death. Also, sometimes upon the death of an individual, a family member may donate back to our cemetery unused plots. We try our best to accommodate those situations as they occur. As a rule, there should be no planting of flowers, grass, etc.. in our cemetery. You may place potted flowers, but please remove them once the flowers have died. Keep in mind that the ground may shift or sink due to rain and run-off. Unless a tombstone is damaged by a worker contracted by the church, you are responsible if it is damaged. We will be having cemetery clean-up day on Saturday, November 14th at 9:00 AM. We welcome any volunteers to come and help! Any items will be removed that have been left on tombstones on this day. If you want to keep vases, etc., then please take them off for safe-keeping before the November 14th clean-up. MAGNETIC YEAR CALENDAR ADVERTISING St. John s will again be ordering magnetic year calendars to distribute to all parishioners as we have done for many years. If your business would like to sponsor these calendars, please contact the rectory office as soon as possible. Final drafts will be sent to the printers by November 10th in order for them to ship in a timely manner over the holiday season.

Bethany Retreat Center is offering an opportunity to learn about and create an icon painted in the ancient Byzantine style as taught through the Prosopon School of Iconology. Mary Kay Laplante will lead the class in creating an icon of the Archangel Michael using ancient techniques and natural materials rich with symbolic meaning. Previous artistic experience is not necessary as writing an icon is as much a contemplative form of prayer as an artistic discipline. CDA MEETING The Spirituality Committee of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas has invited a speaker to present a talk prior to their 7:00 PM monthly meeting in November. Janice E. Hurley, RN, MS, a retired associate professor of Psychiatric Nursing at the Roberts Wesleyan College in Rochester, New York, will be speaking at 6:40 PM on Thursday, November 5. Janice is a graduate of The Geisinger Medical Center School of Nursing in Danville, PA, and received her Masters in Psychiatric Nursing from the University of Rochester in NY. She has also published several articles in the Journal of Christian Nursing. The topic of her talk is entitled Coming Alongside. All are welcome to attend. YOU CAN STILL SIGN UP: CROP HUNGER WALK THIS Sunday, October 25th is the community CROP HUNGER WALK. This walk raises money for international relief and development, as well as for local hunger fighting agencies. Registration is at 1:30 PM and the walk will begin at 2:00 PM at the Faith United Methodist Church on Hughes Street in Bellefonte (behind Bellefonte HS). It will continue to Governor s Park and back, allowing us to realize the distance many people must walk in order to have daily water. Please consider participating and/or donating to help the less fortunate. Signups will be taken after each Mass again this weekend or at the walk. Come dine with Fr. Charles Ugo and support his educational ministry that enables the children living in the poorest regions of Nigeria an opportunity to attend school and to receive medical care. The dinner will be served from 4:30 6:30 PM and the menu includes spaghetti with meat balls, tossed salad, garlic bread, beverage and a dessert. The cost is $10 for adults; $4.50 for ages 6-10 and children 5 and under eat free. Your support is greatly appreciated in helping to raise funds toward educating these needy children. OLV ANNUAL PARISH BAZAAR & TAILGATE Saturday, November 7 from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM is the Our Lady of Victory Parish Annual Bazaar & Tailgate. It will be held at the OLV School Auditorium at 800 Westerly Parkway in State College. 4 MEMORIALS & DONATIONS We have received a donation to the Angel Fund in honor of Paul & Mary Kay Badger s 50 th wedding anniversary from Mary Kay s siblings. This donation will assist with the tuition of a student(s) attending our school. Thank you to all of our benefactors and God bless your generosity to and support of our school. RACE FOR EDUCATION St. John School will be conducting our 7 th annual Race for Education on Friday, October 30. The funds from this event help us to provide quality education with affordable tuition. This is our largest fundraiser and its success helps us to determine the need for additional fundraisers. Over the past six years, we have raised over $83,000 through donations to this event. ALL SAINTS DAY PAGEANT Parishioners are invited to join us at the 9:00 AM Mass on Monday, November 2 for our All Saints Pageant presented by our 2 nd grade class. LADIES EXTRAVAGANZA The St. John Home & School Association will be holding its annual Ladies Extravaganza on Sunday, November 15, beginning at 2 p.m. at the Yearick Center in Howard. Admittance is $5 per person and either a new item for the quarter auction item or $5 (or more) in lottery tickets. JOSEPH S CATHOLIC ACADEMY EVENT Come join in the fun at the 3rd Annual Boalsburg Turkey Trot (5K Run/Walk) to benefit SJCA Cross Country and Track & Field Program and the Friends of the PA Military Museum. This 5K run/walk will take place on Thanksgiving Day, November 26 at 9:00 AM at the PA Military Museum. The entry fee is $20 if received before November 6 or $25 after that date. A HEALING MASS AT THE CATHEDRAL IN ALTOONA The Cathedral Charismatic Prayer Group is presenting a HEALING MASS this Monday, October 26 at 7:00 PM at The Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament. The celebrant will be Fr. Bill Kiel. This special Mass is for all in need of physical, emotional or spiritual healing and those who support them. BREWING THE FAITH SESSIONS HAVE BEGUN Sometimes it s easier to ask someone out for a drink than it is to come to church. Brewing the Faith is for all people that are 40 years of age and above and want to learn more about the Catholic faith. The events will be held on Wednesday evenings from 7:00 PM to about 8:30 PM at the Mountain View Club, 100 Elks Club Road, Boalsburg, PA. Most of these programs return $.03 for every gallon of fuel delivered to your home back to the church of your choice. The Church Program is usually set up through the automatic delivery option.
