From Beaufort: take 17N toward Charleston; take a left onto Bees Ferry Rd. turn right onto Glenn McConnell, take a left onto Sam Rittenberg; church will be on the right. From Mt. Pleasant: take 17S across the Ravenell Bridge; merge onto I-26 W; go to exit 216A; go over Cosgrove Bridge; stay on Sam Rittenberg; church is approx. 3 miles on the left. Please note: The Friday Gatherings begin at 6 pm with fellowship. Please bring a snack or finger food to share with the Community. As always, the church will provide drinks. 2 From the July Gathering Those of you who braved the rough weather for the July Gathering at St Andrews were treated to a lovely evening. Though small in number, the Gathering lacked nothing in Spirit. The St. Andrews Praise Band, accompanied by our new music directors, Michael and Shannon Flynn, filled the space with rousing music. Our Fourth Day speaker, Lynn Core, may be new to many of you, but she is not new to Emmaus. She went on her Walk in Charlotte several years ago and was very active in their community before moving here. This past year she even returned to Charlotte to serve on the team for a Chrysalis Flight. Lynn spoke about her reluctance to go on the Walk when first invited. But she then explained how her experience on the Walk depended her faith and her works. She testified that without that faith she would not have been able to cope with the stress of her husband s illness and subsequent passing and the death of her mother in a short 6 month period. God s faithful presence and love gives us the strength and will to survive unimaginable loss. After moving to Charleston Lynn found the church family she had to leave behind in Charlotte and she has continued to immerse herself in the missions of the church. We are so happy that she found us. Our Spiritual Director, Michael Bingham, in his reply to Lynn s talk, told a moving story of how his reluctance to answer God s call on a mission trip turned into an eye-opening experience of what really matters to us and to those we encounter on our journeys. From our Lay Director: Dan Hare To the Lowcountry Emmaus Community: I hope everyone is enjoying their summer vacations, but I know it is hot so I everyone keeps safe. I am sorry for those who missed the Gathering at ST. Andrews but even with bad weather we had a good turnout. We also had a wonderful 4 th day. On a sadder note my friend Myra Whaley was supposed to be at the Gathering with me but lost her baby brother in car wreck that day. He had just got off work and was on his way home when his car hydro planed, and he hit a tree. This is a reminder we must be thankful for each day, each minute, and each breath we take, because it is by God s Grace.

3 As we prepare for fall walks, please be in prayer for our pilgrims, Team and the board. We are still short for pilgrims, so reach out for those you have thinking about asking and ask. The cards for the walk dates are a good tool sponsoring, but It still requires you asking and sponsoring. If you have sponsored someone on this walk and can t sponsor someone else, get someone from your reunion group to help with co-sponsorship. I believe in the Emmaus process, and I announced that Emmaus is celebrating 40 years with a Cruise. If you need more information, feel free to contact me. My information is in the newsletter call or me. As I have found several people to go on the walks I have found sponsors when needed, so please reach out and give something special to one of God s children. I mentioned earlier about Emmaus celebrating 40 years, well this November will be 30 Years since I took my walk at Mt. Top Emmaus in North Carolina before low country, midlands, foothills, or central were formed. Seaside Emmaus was the only one in South Carolina at the time and it was booked up, so we went to Mt. Top. I went prior to Hugo for those of you who remember Hugo. I am telling you this because I believe in the Walk to Emmaus and that is why I am still hanging around. I just opened a box I had in my closet that has all my note books and letters from all the walks I have been on, that s how special the walk was for me. Let s not rob that experience from someone else. Decolores, may God bless you, Dan Hare From our Facilities Chair: Ed Hickey Fall walk camp preparation. Good news!! We are approved to do set up of Men s fall walk Saturday October 13, 2018 starting at 8:30AM! Refurbishment for Women s walk will be Sunday starting at 1:00 PM. If not finished Sunday remainder on Monday :30 am! Camp takedown/cleanup Sunday :00 PM and if not finished remainder on Monday Oct 29, 2018 at 8:30 am. I am hoping we can accomplish this by Reunion Groups adopting cottages and ask that a dialog begin with groups for this important willing servant s assignment. 4 From our Agape Chair: Karen Ayers AGAPE OPPORTUNITIES Table Agape will be needed for our upcoming walks; please provide 65 pieces of each. Remember how you enjoyed receiving these little gifts and plan to pass on that joy this fall! This month I m especially excited as we have the opportunity to support through our prayers the first walks of the new community of Vineyard Grace in Kuilsriver, South Africa. 5 From our Registrar: Sue Runnerstrom Prayer works people! God is good! Our number of Pilgrims for the fall Walks is growing. We now have 10 men s applications and 20 women s. This is great news. We also have several potential applications from Kevin Stroop s charges in need of sponsors. Because Emmaus is new to those churches, there are no members who have been on the Walk to be sponsors to those who wish to go. A nice problem to have since it means that the Spirit is moving there, but help is needed. If you can be a sponsor to any of these potential Pilgrims please contact Kevin Stroop (his contact info is in the newsletter) or see him at the next Gathering. Let s be the hands and feet and heart of Jesus and help these folks experience the joy of a close encounter with God that the weekend can provide. Thank you. From our Asst. Spiritual Director: Kevin Stroop Everything that we do at the Church promises the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. 16 Now, this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel: 17 In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. (Acts 2:16-17a) God s promise is not an idle one, we see his Spirit working in all that is being done within the Church. It is marvelous to see our people talking about what God is doing, they are responding to the Holy Spirit in new and wonderful ways. We all are seeing God s handiwork first-hand and constantly reminded that He is present. This why we wait with anticipation of what God is going to do during VBS, Asbury Hills Camp, October Men s and Women s Emmaus Walks, and our summer services just to see what God is going to do. It is a marvelous wait and the anticipation has beauty within it. It is a sweet, sweet fragrance Please provide your prayers for our campers and pilgrims this summer that God will pour out his Holy Spirit upon them and bless them with His presence. I guarantee that if you pray God will provide the blessing and pour his Spirit out on you. The next board meeting will be held August 14, 2018 at the Cabinet Shop 9475 US-78, Ladson, SC at 7:00pm.
